Samsung Unveils the S27D590C 27-inch Curved Monitor

Samsung Electronics introduced the 27-inch S27D590C Full HD Curved Monitor designed to enhance visually compelling entertainment content. The advanced display creates a more immersive viewing experience through its curved design and innovative features.

"Our new, 27-inch curved monitor takes movie watching and gaming to new heights from the monitor's unique curved screen and comprehensive entertainment features, to the incredible picture quality and the impressive sleek design," said Seoggi Kim, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "The S27D590C embodies our singular focus to create a truly unforgettable entertainment experience."
Ultimate Viewing Experience
The curvature of the S27D590C improves the viewing experience in comparison to traditional flat screen monitors as the screen boasts nearly uniform viewing distances from the center of the screen to its edges. This curvature matches the natural curve of the human eye and makes it easy for the viewer to completely immerse themselves in games and movies.

Additionally, the screen's curvature creates a wider field of view and greater sense of depth, which enables viewers to enjoy a panoramic view and gives the screen a 3D-like effect. The 3D effect is particularly apparent when enjoying first-person perspective games, such as racing and flight simulators, avatar-based adventures and shooters.

With an ultra-wide viewing angle of 178 degrees both horizontally and vertically, the curved monitor's vertical alignment (VA) panel optimizes the viewing experience from any position and minimizes picture distortion. In addition, the S27D590C's Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio technology delivers a high contrast ratio of 3000:1 and 350 cd/m2 brightness help produce life-like images with deeper blacks, pristine whites and brighter colors.

Optimized for Entertainment
The integration of enhanced entertainment features takes gaming and multimedia content experience to the next level. The monitor comes fully equipped with built-in 5-watt dual speakers that deliver high-quality stereo sound as well as a game mode function that can be quickly activated with a simple touch of a button. The game mode intelligently detects on-screen changes and corrects blurry images, enhances colors and alters contrast for improved visibility of in-game action.

The monitor has a clean and minimalist look, ensuring viewers enjoy the enhanced viewing experience of the curved screen without any distraction. Its sophisticated design makes pictures seemingly float in mid-air, captivating the viewer instantly. Users can also easily adjust the screen angle using the tilt screen function to minimize glare and reflection. The monitor also supports 100×100 mm VESA standard brackets for stress-free wall or table mounting.

Not true. I have a 27inch 1080 samsung and the "pixels" become visable at about 10cm from the screen so the resolution is fine for this size of screen.

I find 1080p and 21" barely passable, at 24" pretty atrocious, there's no way 27" cuts it at 1080p unless you're using it like a TV in a small room.

I use 27" monitor at 1080p for almost 3 years. The pixel is not that bad. TBH, it is very acceptable considering that 1080p is a sweet spot for nowadays gaming. Sure 1440p is already here, but most GPU can't miantain steady 120fps at ultra setting. And yes, I need 120fps for extra smoothness on my 120hz monitor, since the difference is more visible than the pixel density of 1080p on 27" screen.

For gaming and movie watching, 27" @1080p is still acceptable and even more practical (e.g. in-game texts are easier to read). However, I wouldn't recommend it for professional use because you don't get the extra work space that 1440p+ can offer.

what's the price on this monitor going to be? also since its curved display, sitting anywhere but in front of the display will be useless.

I think they screwed up their marketing, newer VA panels have near 3000:1 native contrast and the "Mega Dynamic Contrast" BS is usually quoted in Millions:1 these days ...

Mind you, I'd much prefer to see native contrast quoted. :)

To me these curved screens are more marketing at this size , unless its bad TN panel, 27 is not that big were your not infront of screen edges .
I could see 50+ were it might be a plus but even then you have to be positioned at sweet spot were flat panel you can be off more , angle view .

But you sit pretty far from a TV hence a curved screen is no use.
You sit close to a desktop screen so curved will be a positive thing.

1600p or 4k... take this 1080p and throw it away.

This isn't new is it,......?

I seem to recall seeing pictures of this curved Samsung display before the first Samsung 4K monitors (U28D590D) was released to the market,.....which was a while ago.

To each his or her own but to me this whole curved display thing is a bit of ridiculous marketing. I have two different 4K monitors of different sizes, which, I really like and serve a specific purpose / niche but this,....... I have no use for this.

Normally I prefer to actually test something out and see for myself before passing judgment on something but I'm just not with it.

I kind of feel like the market understands that they cannot or can no longer ask unreasonable prices for 1920x1080 displays so they are trying to think out of the box to get such displays to command higher prices again. I'm not saying I have a problem with 1920x1080 monitors of this size because I don't and I still use such monitors. I'm just saying it feels like a bit of a cash grab,....and I don't even know the price.

Edit:

So I'll just say that this is probably best priced at something under ~$200 USD. Anything more then that is inflated needlessly IMO because a 1920x1080 monitor of this size shouldn't cost more then that.

Not sure but i know BenQ was working on a similar monitor a while ago. Problem with BenQ is they dont tend to distribute outside of Asia though the products are still available in some countries but quite often in very limited numbers when found

I find BenQ products pretty easy to get hold of in the UK/Ireland. Maybe it's one of their main target markets, I would think the US would be too.

I find it can be hit or miss... One moment there seems to be loads of stock then the next there seems to be very little, though with the UK its more down to Monitors. BenQ also make laptops & projectors.

Theres a lot of competition when it comes to monitors these days & Dell's are getting increasingly popular with the average joe and that seems to be the brand they look to these days & Dell monitors aint bad at all! the 24" ultrasharps are well priced.

I just intended to say that I have seen pics of this model before back in January 2014. Its 8 months later now, nearly 9 months really.

yournewsticker.com/2014/01/samsung-announced-monitors-ud970-and-ud590-with-4k-and-a-curved-27-inch-model.html

It just seems like its old news at this point or that they should have had the product on the market long ago if they were going to release it in the first place rather then simply show it off as a proof of concept.

Either that or Samsung doesn't really think people want the product,......maybe,...

I think you need to stay a little further from the screen dude, or you'll fry your eyes very soon. ;)

And don't forget that the stand on these Samsung monitors isn't all that great. The stand is more style then substance and there is typically no VESA mount support. Before you start thinking you can come up with some idea to get around these limitation there is a large metal tab protrusion from the monitor that the stand connects too on these type of Samsung monitors and only partially deconstructing (mod) the monitor itself would get rid of it.

You obviously didn't read the bit of this article where it states

The monitor also supports 100×100 mm VESA standard brackets for stress-free wall or table mounting.
