Apple Reports Record Fourth Quarter Results

Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2015 fourth quarter ended September 26, 2015. The Company posted quarterly revenue of $51.5 billion and quarterly net profit of $11.1 billion, or $1.96 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $42.1 billion and net profit of $8.5 billion, or $1.42 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.9 percent compared to 38 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 62 percent of the quarter's revenue.

The growth was fueled by record fourth quarter sales of iPhone, the expanded availability of Apple Watch, and all-time records for Mac sales and revenue from services. "Fiscal 2015 was Apple's most successful year ever, with revenue growing 28% to nearly $234 billion. This continued success is the result of our commitment to making the best, most innovative products on earth, and it's a testament to the tremendous execution by our teams," said Tim Cook, Apple's CEO. "We are heading into the holidays with our strongest product lineup yet, including iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple Watch with an expanded lineup of cases and bands, the new iPad Pro and the all-new Apple TV which begins shipping this week."

"Apple's record September quarter results drove earnings per share growth of 38% and operating cash flow of $13.5 billion," said Luca Maestri, Apple's CFO. "We returned $17 billion to our investors during the quarter through share repurchases and dividends, and we have now completed over $143 billion of our $200 billion capital return program."

Apple is providing the following guidance for its fiscal 2016 first quarter:
  • revenue between $75.5 billion and $77.5 billion
  • gross margin between 39 percent and 40 percent
  • operating expenses between $6.3 billion and $6.4 billion
  • other income/(expense) of $400 million
  • tax rate of 26.2 percent
Apple's board of directors has declared a cash dividend of $0.52 per share of the Company's common stock. The dividend is payable on November 12, 2015, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on November 9, 2015.

I can't understand the mindset but I envy the utter loyalty and brand devotion their followers show. Working in my current position providing a high quality of service, it takes a lot to convince people how good you are (or give the impression of it). But then, Apple's marketing budget could buy a small country...

Not the greatest product but give it a monstrous marketing machine and it doesn't need to be.

Apple has a new strategy say what ever we sell them they will by. According to this strategy they increase their products number. Each loyal customer will buy one of each product and when I say product I don't mean that iPhone 6s is product and 6s+ is product no I mean iPhone 6s rose gold is product and 6s gold is product and each color is a product. Make your calculations and you will notice the even if they gain profits they still loose customers.

It's also that they are the only supplier of their product. I have apple stuff and I want to throw it out the window from time to time, but its not like I can go to Dell or HP without losing a bunch of the features that I really do like.

I think once microsoft catches up to their level, you will see quite a few customers jump ship.

The Surface Book looks pretty damn cool. I don't need one but hell, I might buy one.

Their new phones look pretty top notch too. Unfortunately, I'm in the android ecosystem so moving to windows OS on mobile is too traumatic for me.

Agreed. The surface book is a very nice machine that tromps all over the newest ipad from apple. Notice too that ipad sales are slumping know that there are other players in the market. I still think the iPhone is the best smart phone out there given the high build quality and rock solid operating system and ecosystem. I am in the android/google eco system though to support open software.

They have a product which is perfect for 95% of the population, all their products work wonderfully with each other (and not much else). I admire their method of making tech so effortless for the less technologically inclined, and their ability to maintain the momentum.

Having a personal Windows Phone, and an iPhone for work I have the opportunity to use them both often, and have to say the Windows Phone is every bit as good, and maybe even easier to use. It's just tough to get Apple users to jump ship and actually try something new.

I've actually found myself recommending Windows phones over Apple products for less technologically minded people these days. They're moronically easy to use, and pretty much everything is a minimum of 3 taps away. I have far too many tech support issues from Apple users, because their phone does things and simply doesn't tell them. It has this tendency to break and hide the hideous results. Windows phone just doesn't seem to break for some reason. If anything Apple's iOS updates appear to break more stuff than they fix.

It's also bizarre, because I see about 20 iPhones for sale on Facebook a day. People seem to constantly be selling them off for some reason.

That said, still sat in an Android ecosystem.
