Corsair Augments Flash Readout USB Product Family with 4GB and 8GB Capacities

Corsair, today announced the immediate availability of the Corsair Flash Readout USB drive in new 4GB and 8GB capacities. The
Corsair Flash Readout USB drive takes the benefits of USB Flash drives one step further by allowing users to label the drive with personal IDs and showing the remaining storage capacity via the embedded digital display, hence alleviating the need to plug the USB drive into the PC to verify content.

"The concept behind the Flash Readout drive is a simple one. With the growing number of consumers owning more than one USB drive, we wanted to introduce a product that will allow the users to visually see what is on the drive without having to plug it into the PC. The Flash Readout delivers exactly that - you can see available storage capacity and personalize it with names to keep content organized," said Richard Hashim, Director of Product Marketing at Corsair. "With HD content becoming more mainstream, consumers are demanding larger capacity flash drives to allow them to bring content on the go. Each 8GB Flash Readout USB drive has the equivalent storage capacity to hold the entire series of the Lord of the Rings movie!"

Flash Readout USB drives feature a Bi-stable Cholesteric Display (BCD) showing data usage and availability. These
drives have a customizable label that users can personalize and edit to identify the drives' contents. Flash Readout USB drives have been designed for users who demand aesthetics and advanced functionality in a small portable device. They feature an 11 character alphanumeric label display, a pie chart to indicate disk space usage and a four digit display showing available storage space. The BCD display retains and displays information for up to one year without the use of a battery.

That's a great idea. I wish somebody would have thought of it earlier. I hate having to plug in one of my numerous usb drives, just to figure out if it has any storage space left.

BCD FTW!!! I can't wait to see more stuff with that technology.

Here's an idea, they could put a BCD on your ATM/debit card that is linked to the chip inside, so everytime you pull out money/buy something at the store, it displays and freezes your remaining balance on the face of your card.

I would imagine we'll see BCD showing up on a bunch of mobile powerless computer/electronic cards & accessories in the years to come.
