EA Makes it Tougher to Cancel Battlefront 2 Pre-orders

EA is under fire for predatory pricing of DLC and add-ons for its upcoming "Star Wars: Battlefront 2" release. Gamers complain of the company effectively pricing it above $80 just to play as Darth Vader, and giving game reviewers a faster in-game content unlock progression, compared to paying gamers, misrepresenting the product. Pre-orders of the game can be cancelled and so gamers took to Reddit, and other forums, to distribute links to the pages on EA's website that let you easily cancel your pre-order. With pre-order cancellations gaining traction, EA pulled out its bag of dirty tricks.

The publisher has reportedly changed the way you cancel pre-orders. Instead of simply clicking on a web-based form to cancel your pre-order and get the reference number to your refund, you now have to speak with a sales agent via chat to cancel your order. Trouble is, that the process is bogged down by too many people trying to cancel their orders (due to a finite number of agents), and thus EA has effectively made it impossible for everyone who pre-ordered to cancel. Only those who can endure the long agent waiting queue to chat with an agent, can cancel their pre-orders, as the November 17 release-date (beyond which you can't cancel pre-orders), looms closer.

Lol..if you've been dumb enough to hand over pre order money to this shitty company for any of their games, then you're getting exactly what you deserve.

If you want this cynical DLC, loot box thievery to stop from these people, then show some fucking maturity & restraint and stop buying their product.

..They'll soon get the message.

Let me first start of with saying that I have not preordered or had planned buying the game but holy **** this is a dirty move! Seen from a PR point of view it seems as if EA just wanna burn to the ground. They are alienating so many customers and sending a loud and cleat message that they do not care about the 'players'/customers. I semi-against my values got BF1 to play with my premates (have had all the BF titles all the way up till now), but this is the nail in the coffin (at least for me) and likely to a lot of other hardcore gamers. It is dangerous when a demographic will boycott / not buy your game even though they might like it. If EA only will have the naive customers left they have reduced their customer base to kids more or less. Sad to see it end this way instead of them learning from it and changing their businesspractice (I know that train left years ago) but still.

I don't know why anyone gives EA a penny... they are constantly screwing the customer over and laughing all the way to the bank doing it. It's disgraceful.

More like consumers shitting on themselves if you ask me. There's no reason to preorder a digital title, it's not like EA will run out of copies if you don't book yours in advance. If you're willing to pay for something no one has seen yet... that's what you get.

EA is shitty, and sometimes people need to smell the shit, see the shit, wake up and realize they are surrounded by the shit before they are willing to call their sarnie more than "processed food item on bread by EA"

My last EA game was total disappointment, which is sad since they have the market cornered on the Pro sports games. Rory McIlroy PGA Tour has been their only PGA game on the new consoles (and it is a few years old now), and it only brought a mild graphics improvement while taking away gameplay modes and content from previous editions. Those previous generation titles aren’t backward compatible on current consoles, and the DLC on those is no longer available even if you have the old consoles. They essentially have left no good options, as even the older versions are crippled. It’s bad enough when the latest version just maintains the status quo, but they aren’t even bothering to do that anymore.

Doing something like this is thinking to be like a GOD only because they have money.
People have their right to decide to cancel an order or pre order .
Doing something like this is just pure greed and someone is going to start a class action for sure .
This is how a publisher should not act at all .

Nah they'll be fine. All the kids on consoles are still gonna beg their parents for it for Christmas, and then ask for EA Game Dollars for their birthday etc. The vocal minority of gamers that are unhappy about this might make a dent in their unending riches, but for the most part shareholders will be pleased with the profits and demand more games like it.

Not really. It's just a classic story of a fool and their money. EA is in the business of making money and there's no shortage of fools. That's all there is to it.

I mean, we can blame them all we want on TPU, if users take that kind of treatment and then they buy EA's next title, what can you do? More importantly, what would you do if you were calling the shots at EA?

RowsolScum. I saw a reddit post yesterday that showed EA's response to Vader being locked away having over 300k downvotes.

I stand corrected, it's now at 600k. www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBattlefront/comments/7cff0b/seriously_i_paid_80_to_have_vader_locked/dppum98/
From what I gather, this actually caused some change. Didn’t EA scale way back on the playtime needed to unlock these characters due to this huge backlash? Either way, it doesn’t look like anyone else will break EA’s new reddit downvote record, except possibly EA.

But... The dads and uncles will buy OTHER games for them instead if possible. (I know i did to my nephews.) I understand your point and RIGHT here and RIGHT now they are making money, but slowly their numbers will start to be affected by customers that are NOT going back to EA bag of ****. Its gonna take year and even decades to fix this relationship no matter what they might earn right now; they wanna have a future.

Hang themselves with what? Nooses made out of people's money?

In response to the article, aren't all titles on origin allowed a no questions asked return 48h after purchase as long as no more than 24h have been racked up playing the game?

People are still buying games from EA? Haven't bought game from them for years, pretty much since Medal of Honor on PS1. Don't buy anything from them and they won't survive long.

If only to kill of that shitty steam ripoff Origin and bring the titles back to steam, I support this.
