Relic Terminates Development Of Further Dawn of War III Content

Relic Entertainment today announced that they were shifting focus and developing resources from developing any further content for Dawn of War III. As the third iteration in the RTS series has seen lukewarm response form critics, gamers, and the market as a whole, the company has said that "When a game underperforms, plans need to change. With Dawn of War 3, we simply don't have the foundation we need to produce major content. We're working in close partnership with Sega and Games Workshop to determine the best course of action, while shifting focus to other projects within our portfolio."

This likely means that no further updates will be delivered to the game, leaving players who were expecting to receive a new playable race in future DLC drops will remain wanting. Luckily, this means that Relic now has more resources to power onto other studio projects - one such could be the next iteration in the acclaimed Age of Empires franchise, which the company is currently working on. With Dawn of War being as expansive a universe as it is, it seems unlikely that the series will be put on ice and development of a franchise-related game won't be developed for Relic; however, that could still be an option. It remains to be seen what game,s and what projects, Relic Entertainment will choose to invest in.

When both previous games (DOW1 and DOW2) are better than the new one (DOW3), you know there's a problem.

lZKoceHomeworld 3 ?
Give Deserts of Kharak a try if you haven't; it's a good addition to the series.

I'm glad Sega doesn't have the licensing for Homeworld, ruining DoW is bad enough.

Well they should have listend when the core fan base said that they wanted a game that is more like DOW1, after DOW2 which no one liked. Let's be honest here people only played it for hoard mode that came after several patches after it's release. The few who liked it mainly consisted of new to Warhammer or Warhammer fan but new to RTSs the nw 'streamlined' RTS, and even fewer who had played the first, where there were 3 ways in a match to secure a victory, that liked the second due to lower amount of strategy involved making the game another make your blob bigger than the other guy's then rolled them RTS. Trying to appease all three of these groups was where they failed so this game was doomed from the get go, there are better and more fun games for the all things Warhammer fans, the game won't deep enough proper RTS fans else casuals won't like it, causals will only play a game for so long before they lose interest and move along to the next thing. It's not that they didn't have a foundation they chose to neglect it.

Dawn of War 1 reminded me a bit of command and conquer and I loved it. Dawn of war 2 sucked, they removed almost everything that I liked about the first one. Never played 3, it seemed crop from the get go, good trailer tho.

"we simply don't have the foundation we need to produce major content." is an understatement.

Right, as a fan that bit feels like a bold faced lie.

IMO DOW was click click crap...

I did play it a bit but lost it when I couldn't be bothered finding out what unit killed inviable units

DOW2 was fun took a long time. I've played it through a few times
Multiplayer sucked hard core it was like a differnt game.

DOW3 price tag was to much and had to much of a life to care..

Any devs out there COPY starcraft and put in LAN mode
