Bethesda Announces Fallout 76

Bethesda announced the title of its upcoming entry to the smash-hit post-apocalyptic/retro-futurist RPG, "Fallout 76." The game involves protagonists from Vault 76. The first teaser trailer shows our protagonist waking up from sleep to a pre-programmed welcome-speech. You get a quick tour of the vault. The trailer doesn't reveal launch date, but Bethesda is probably saving that for E3.
The trailer video follows.

It's most likely the same stupid "scifi from 1940" theme.
The last Fallout game was Fallout 2.

Lmao.

Every Fallout game from Interplay to Bethesda has the theme you're talking about. It's like complaining that the next Elder Scrolls is the "same stupid fantasy" theme. Literally the entire theme of Fallout from its first incarnation has been 1950's Retro Futuristic Americana. That's like the entire point of the series.

lol.. did you even watch? Or look at the title? It's the 1970s, I think... complete with John Denver songs.

Anyways, more Fallout is always cool with me.. but the TES fan in me weeps.

Not really. Compare the looks of Fallout 1/2 and Fallout 4. I know it doesn't make much sense, BUT what I'm talking about is the ridiculous weapons design for example. Fallout 1/2: they look like actual guns, and something technological enough. Fallout 4: mixture of children toys and unrealistic (even for scifi fantasy) nonsense.
Atmosphere? Dark, true "postapo" world in the original fallouts. F4: I can't describe it.

Most of the weapons and gear are worn down and mundane. The cartoony stuff is meant to be that way, inventions cobbled together by wastelanders. It's akin to the Gyro Captain and his pink socks in Mad Max.

You don't have to like it, but I'm not sure why you can't have a little fun with it. I like the old games too, but still.

edit: Hah.. I stand corrected. He had a pink scarf. Not sure why I pictured pink socks.

Hope its on a new game engine, like the idea of all fallout games but the game engine is just so clunky I can't play them without it distracting me to the point I can't enjoy it

Don't care, what i do care about is if they actually added what they removed from what you would see in FO3\V, not bothered with FO4 pretty much trash to me.

Hope they don't screw this one up.

Actually you should back and play 1 and 2 because they absolutely do not. The visual theme of Fallout has not changed even as it's moved between ISO and fully 3D. Fallout will always have the theme of retro futuristic styling with mid century Americana culture. That's what Fallout is.

Which means you completely left out FNV, which is the closest of the “new” Fallouts to the atmosphere of 1 and 2.

I didn't even know it existed back then. It's too late now.

FNV isn't actually Bethesda fyi.. (but Obsidian). But yeah, it's even better.

Correct, and I believe that is why they got the “formula” right on it. :D

I think they definitely brought a lot to it that Bethesda needs.. but Bethesda themselves does something others can't do (except Rockstar who doesn't make RPGs)...which is like, their unspoken/environmental storytelling. "Emergence", if you will. I'm cool with Fallout, but I'd never want Obsidian to touch an Elder Scrolls game. There usually in the same sense of randomness and discovery in Obsidian and Bioware type of games.

The numbering of sequels from game companies lately. Battlefield 3, 4, 1, V. Now Fallout 4 {skip 72}, 76.

etayoriusI just want more TES.
Same but...

The trailer gives me the impression this might be a hybrid of Fallout Shelter and Fallout 4. If it is, color me excited. Explains the weird title too.

Unlikely we'll even get another engine until the next TES.... which may be why they've decided to make another Fallout...thing... to hold people over. I seem to recall Todd Howard even said something to this effect. That there were new things they wanted to do in the next TES, but it'd take a new engine.

edit:
Ah, here it is from 2016..

Sure in a round about way I agree with you, but I would hand a tropho to zombies as over done before the post apocalyptic fallout scenario.

I guess I'll just have to wait for a couple of years after release to see where this title ultimately ends up.
Rushed into FO4 way too fast after release, so it just hangs in my library with a grand total of 6 hours of playtime.
What I don't like about today's Bethesda style, is that all of their RPGs became very underwhelming (and that also includes Skyrim to some extent). It's too much busy work and not enough actual role playing.

Oxhorn just released a new video going over the lore of 76 if anyone's interested in it.
