Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update Adds Regions of Oceania & Antarctica

Experience the vast regions of Oceania and the magnificence of Antarctica in Microsoft Flight Simulator's latest World update. Explore some of the most exotic regions on Earth in World Update XIII. Microsoft Flight Simulator is thrilled to add to the beauty of the simulator with fascinating new landscapes. Known as both a continent and a geographic region, and straddling the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western Hemispheres, Oceania is comprised of remote coral islands, long stretches of white sand beaches, towering volcanoes, vast interior sweeps of uninhabited rainforest, and populated cities boasting modern architectural wonders. Antarctica is a dream destination for aviators with adventure, intrigue, and boundless vistas of pristine coastal and inland glaciated terrain.

Microsoft Flight Simulator's World Update XIII includes Polynesia (Hawaii and Easter Island), Melanesia (Fiji, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Indonesia's West Papua, and the Solomon Islands), the Galapagos Islands and key regions of Antarctica, notably the Antarctic Peninsula. The update provides a total of 13 countries and 28 non-sovereign territories, many with improved resolution that will allow pilots to experience stunning new vistas throughout these regions. The release is based on the latest aerial photographs, satellite imagery, and digital elevation modelling data. There is an updated height field for Hawaii and features the city of Honolulu with dozens of handmade buildings.

It's incredible how they keep adding new content to the game on such a regular schedule. And these are massive, quality updates, and for free too.

25Mbps download at the moment on a 1Gbps fibre... Best days you can do 2/3 of that, but everytime new update lands it's back to early 2000s.

Not to mention my data install committed suicide last week and I had to start over.

Or not to mention that you can't update this from Steam, but only with 3D launcher up so that the machine pulls 300 watts all the time.

Yeah, I do wish it would update via Steam. Microsoft's servers can be hit or miss. Though I didn't have any problems installing this. The download reached my full 600 mbps connection.

They've made some big improvements to the update process sometime in the last few months, and it's much better than it used to be. The game no longer runs at 100% CPU and GPU utilization when updating, for instance. I'm redownloading the game right now, and currently it's downloading at 300mbps with just 15% CPU utilization and 0% GPU utilization. I suspect it will slow down once it downloads all the large packages and it reaches the hundreds of smaller packages.

edit: Downloading stuff from the marketplace still uses the old system though, and getting all of the free content there can take forever, I'll admit...
