MSI Introduces GAMING SLIM Series Graphics Cards

As a leading brand in True Gaming hardware, MSI is excited to introduce the GAMING SLIM Family, a new graphics card series powered by NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series graphics processors. While maintaining the most iconic GAMING elements from the long-standing MSI GAMING series, GAMING SLIM is even thinner and lighter, allowing for flexible system assembly while promising high-performance capabilities. The GAMING SLIM series is available with the GeForce RTX 4090, GeForce RTX 4080, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, GeForce RTX 4070, and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti graphics processors.

Powered by NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace architecture, RTX 40 Series graphics cards offer unparalleled speed, ushering in a new era of performance, immersive gaming, AI capabilities, and lightning-fast content creation for gamers and creators alike.
Slim design, mighty action
GAMING SLIM is available in both black and white versions, embodying GAMING characteristics through bold lines, clean edges, RGB hues on a sleek appearance, and a ventilation cutout in the backplate. Despite its slim profile, advanced thermal capability isn't compromised. The cooling system, driven by MSI's current-generation thermal solution, TRI FROZR 3, incorporates TORX FAN 5.0 with pairs of three fan blades connected by an outer link. This design forms a rim that directs airflow into the updated thermal module underneath. The system also features a nickel-plated copper baseplate and up to 8 Core Pipes at the heart of the heatsink, effectively dissipating heat. Furthermore, a metal backplate with a flow-through opening enhances heat dissipation and strength. Mystic Light synchronizes exterior illumination with the PC using Mystic Light Sync and Ambient Link technologies.

Appealing option for enthusiasts
Lighter and slimmer than standard GAMING variants, GAMING SLIM is tailored for individuals building gaming setups in tight spaces. This ensures optimal airflow and circulation within the PC case. Furthermore, equipped with top-notch thermal design and advanced features like ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS, it's easier to enjoy more lifelike and immersive visuals, improved image quality, and enhanced frame rates. The GAMING SLIM series perfectly suits creative professionals, esports competitors, livestream broadcasters, creators, and more.

MSI AFTERBURNER
MSI Afterburner is the world's most recognized and widely used graphics card overclocking software. It provides full control of your graphics card and enables you to monitor your system's key metrics in real-time. Afterburner gives you a free performance boost for a smooth in-game experience at higher FPS.

MSI CENTER
The exclusive MSI Center software invigorates the user experience with easy-to-use utilities. It features Frozr AI Cooling, which unifies the system fans connected to a compatible MSI motherboard to react to changes in GPU thermal output.

Exactly. There's nothing slim about these cards, and the two most important dimensions for SFF cases (card length, and height protrusion above the expansion slot retention bracket) appear to be "fat".

My single slot MSI 3080 is slim (could be because of the single slot water block though :))

These are definitely pushing it a bit on the length at 307mm, but I think I can just sneak one into my ITX case.

Any chance MSI will do this with some Radeons? Hoping for a 7800 XT that's "slim" enough for ITX use.

Ugh, for a second I hoped they were releasing low profile cards.

Before anyone asks: no, I can't use a riser.

Talk about "slim" when you have 1-slot cards. These are just normal 2-slot ones.

Never thought I'd be paying a premium for a card because it "only" takes up two slots... you know, like normal?

They're taking all the shortcuts possible forward to the past when we had a norm of hangar sized computers. See? GPUs already become bigger, slower and more expensive at the same time.

GPUs run at stupid high clocks since mid-2010s, sweet spot (engineer wise) is already 400+ MHz behind. E.g. my RX 6700 XT:

• stock, cca 2590 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 180 W
• sweet spot, cca 2200 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 110 W (going less speed makes no sense because savings are negligible, the GPU is unstable on substantially lower current/voltage no matter the frequency) (I don't talk undervolting which further lowers wattage to double digits)

E.g. my 1080 Ti:

• stock, cca 1880 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 230 W
• sweet spot, cca 1690 MHz mean gaming wattage is about 165 W (with UV, it further reduces to as little as 125 W which is very close to GTX 1060 and RX 470)

The GPU only loses 15 percent of speed being reduced by almost 40% of its appetites (in case of RX 6700 XT) and 10 percent speed by shrinking to 72% of original TDP (GTX 1080 Ti). Same goes to Ada, especially if we talk RT Off. This could make PCBs way more simple, and this also would've manifested way more conservative cooling approach and thus, drastically lower the production costs and delivering more appropriate retail prices if both parties don't change their profit margins.

I don't think it's going to happen. Not in the consumer lineup anyway.

With both Ampere and Lovelace, The smallest, lowest-power Geforce card is the GA107/AD107 at 115W.
The issue with low-profile is that you're limited to 50mm fans and unless you want to make it a triple-slot card, they're not going to have enough room to do their thing at 115W.

For Quadro where it's about certification and driver support, rather than performance, you will likely find something at 5x the cost, and half the performance you want it to be. By downclocking a 3050 the A2000 is a 70W part, but it's also so expensive and so slow that you can afford to rebuild into a new case instead for less outlay. Some nice, premium SFF with a riser for a regular full-height, dual-slot card that's 1/5th the cost and twice as fast....

These things are greater than two slots wide. It's wider than any GPU I own. Did OP write this or was this quoted from MSI?

Looks like it was tagged as "Press Release" so probably from MSI, sounds like something whipped up by a marketing department. "Tailored for individuals" lmao

I was happy to see single slot cards again, but then realized the callous fake name "Slim" means just double slot. WTH?!?

If source from comment #4 is correct all RTX 4090 "Slim" models and part of RTX 4080. "Slim" models will be 62 mm thick which is a 3+ PCIe slots. :(

Oh I know. But hope is the last one to die, before I decide myself and get an eGPU. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
