EA App Optimized for macOS Devices Due Soon

Late last year, we officially launched EA's next-generation game platform, the EA app, for Windows OS. A faster, more reliable, and more streamlined experience - it's the best place for you to experience EA's incredible games, services and content.

We've been working to bring the same updated experience to our Mac players. Today, we're excited to say that the EA app for Mac will soon replace Origin as our primary Mac platform. The EA app is our fastest and lightest Mac client to date. With the new streamlined design you will easily find the games and content you're looking for and discover your new favorite games. With simple content downloads and background updates you can ensure that your games are ready to play when you are.
We will be inviting Origin players on supported macOS devices to make the move soon. To make the transition to the EA app as simple as possible, all your games and content, including games previously installed, will be ready and waiting for you on the EA app by the time you receive your invitation. Your local and cloud saves will transfer forward ensuring you can pick up where you left off. New players can start by downloading a new favorite game and jump into the action with our optimized experience.

The EA app will be available soon for supported macOS devices. We'll let you know when it's available for download.

We look forward to welcoming you to the EA app!

Yeah if only the app actually worked. I still get randomly signed-out, crashes, and errors when attempting to launch BF1 or 2042 from time to time saying I don't have access (When I have bought the game and don't own EA Play). Can't wait for the already suffering apple gamers to get this piece of trashware as well.

This should go over well with a demographic who's entire ecosystem is predicated off "It just works."

Mac users are still using the Origin desktop client.

Having used both on Windows PCs I'm not sure Mac users will give much thought to the EA app other than note that it has a new name and a new logo. It still sucks rocks.

At least EA has spent some time with the Windows version so they already know many of the pain points.

TheoneandonlyMrKBut Why. ..

Just stop it EA you gits.
From a marketing perspective, it is more of a pain for EA to continue maintaining the Origin brand on Mac while they've moved onto the EA launcher for Windows PCs. It makes more sense for them to have consistent visual branding whether it be Windows or Mac.

Likely you have never worked a day in a corporate job but this is how the big boys get things done.

When the EA launcher was released they stated that the Mac version would be coming later. This is not a surprise.

That's a completely different subject, the value add of game publisher's launchers.

The only one that's worth having is Steam. The other ones (Epic, EA, Origin, Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect, etc.) provide basically zero value add to the consumer. They're just spyware/DRM proxies disguised as storefronts.

However, the topic of the original article is the EA app finally replacing the legacy Origin app on MacOS. We need to stick to this topic otherwise we risk TPU moderators shutting this discussion down.

I'm actually fine with a launcher per say ish IE rather not, but like steam it should be possible to game offline and EA block shareplay on steam too, a side note but a shitty move.
I agree , gog steam ,ms store my needs are met no more required TY EA the doors close.

I use all these game stores, 0 problems and they all have a main use you purposefully neglected: owning, buying and playing games. Not every game is in steam, nor do i get all my games in steam, from other apps like Prime.

EA app is btw better than Origin, no problems since it's not beta anymore. Origin was 98% fine for me as well, I honestly don't get the complainers. Honestly, none of these launchers give me any problems since a long time.

I just hope they deleted that piece of software from existance...

EVERY DAY or EVERY couple of hours that crap asks me for username and password.

Its annoying as hell... and using it on the Steam Deck is an awful experience.

So specifically since your world's perfect.

Some like me have rubbish internet and no choice to improve it.

The constant requirements to sign in even to play one player games like NFS the Run is f###£££ ridiculous I bought it, downloaded it from their app it's not pirated wtaf.

And specifically EA and they're apps are updated f#£#@£ daily it seems because every time I start it it needs an update that then breaks the "remember my login deets"

Which I sware is unattached to any table or register because f#@# I have to sign in manually every f#£@£@ time and after many years

I'm done, just because of That sign in they can f off and the sware blanking is warranted due to they're annoying shitnessssss.

And that's not even starting on what they've done to code houses and games I like or liked.

Speaking of the PC version, does it still leave a process running in the background for "automatic updates" regardless of user choice after closing the app? I bet it still does, I had to set an event viewer task to automatically kill it every time I closed the launcher back when I had it installed.

I personally liked the design of the Origin Launcher more, the EA App is just a dark nothing. But the performance at least is way better with the EA App.

Feature wise it's a clear cut down to the Origin Launcher. My complains:

- randomly doesn't show all owned games (last time missing 11 games, back after relaunch)
- no wishlist anymore (well I just wish list them on GG.Deals, so not a huge deal)
- the App never updates on it's own (I always have to run manually the "EAUpdater.exe", no option in the app menu for update checks)
- randomly aborted purchases in the app (buying since then through the EA website)
- missing cover art for "The Saboteur™" in the app (already reported the issue with the rest to EA some weeks ago, didn't see anything fixed, though; EA homepage for the game shows "500 Error",too lol)
- the design of the app (esp. with the extreme rounded corners on images I get serious "WinXP" vibes)

Just checked. "EA Background Service" still running after quitting the launcher. :shadedshu: Ohh wait, after waiting for some seconds it's gone, too. (with the feature disabled in the app)

The only reason this is the case is because the owners of said apps purposefully remove or prevent the launch of their games on Steam. There is 0 technical reason they are not on steam. Fixing a problem you yourself make is not worthy of credit.

That's a issue for many things, even console players complained about this back then when PS4/Xbox One launched, you can blame the society or tech advancement for this, but not game shops or game launchers, it's just how tech is made nowadays, almost everything is online. They take for granted that you have a stable connection, which most people do have.

No, I am and can blame EA.

I seam to be able to download off GOG or steam a one player game with only the first sign in online, unless it's an EA game or UBI.

Your claims I and others are unreasonable for wanting to use what I bought, offline are obtuse IMHO.

Not really, millions use these launchers without a problem, I think you're overcomplicating things and are just an outlier with your system.

btw I'm not sure "Manchester United Kingdom" is known for having bad internet. So maybe you're just making up things in order to criticize stuff which works

Perhaps you could way up the fact that you don't know me or where I live, and I surely am not going to divulge Why my internet is rubbish, but it's 4G Mobil based through 3 not fibre or a landline.
So I am,
Making up stuff to criticize EA for, are you joking.

Nope, that's not the case here.

I use many launchers daily , you tried Sap's because I rate EA about as good as Sap.

Now why is it your arguing I'm wrong?!?.

Because it's ok for you, is that it, your a shareholder protecting your shares, there see your not alone in having a imagination.
