YouTube Gets Piracy Filter

Google Inc. has unveiled test version of a new Video Identification system on YouTube that should identify pirated videos as they get uploaded.
YouTube Video Identification will help copyright holders identify their works on YouTube. We have worked with Google to develop one-of-a-kind technology that can recognize videos based on a variety of factors. As its Beta status indicates, our Video Identification is brand-new, cutting-edge stuff, so we will be constantly refining and improving it. Early tests with content companies have shown very promising results. As we scale and refine our system, YouTube Video Identification will be available to all kinds of copyright holders all over the world, whether they want their content to appear on YouTube or not.
More information about the YouTube Video Identification can be found here.

No more anything fun, everything is copyrighted these days. Time for a new video site, hate youtubes video quality anyway, was hoping they'd screw up, looks like they have.

Wow, so maybe instead of just continuing to pirate stuff, people will actually get off their asses, get active, and try to work towards changing the laws in this country? Naw...

If people want to upload illegal stuff, they will, no filter will stop that. I bet if you record the video from a screen with webcam it's fine, no matter what content. If it looks for logos, soften them, or commercial brakes, cut them out. Not that I have uploaded any illegal or will, but this got me interested in trying to break it, so it's already worse :D

nothing on youtube is of decent enough quality to post a pirated video anyways.

it works on facial or image recognition (known images trigger it) and sound cues (song lyrics)

so if its really blurry and you distort the sound so you cant understand it then you can play it on youtube. :wtf:

Only if you're making fun of her by doing it -- then you're protected under the first amendment (if you're an American, of course). ;)
