BenQ Launches Dual Screen Notebook

BenQ today announces the launch of a new class of laptops-the Joybook Q41 featuring dual screen. Equipped with 14.1" UltraVivid widescreen, a 2.5" auxiliary display, Intel Core2 Duo processor and Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, the Joybook Q41 is designed for forward-thinkers with exquisite tastes. The Joybook Q41 keeps your favorite music, treasured photos, fun games, and updated information available on its 2.5" auxiliary display. The Joybook Q41 is the first laptop to offer VoIP function directly from the auxiliary display. Users can dial directly from the auxiliary display to be instantly in touch with friends and colleagues. As a new class of laptops, the Joybook Q41 is designed to fulfil all of your needs conveniently.
Inspired by glass curtain walls of skyscrapers, the Joybook Q41 is designed with a glossy belt for its 2.5" auxiliary display and a red operation-key-lighting that adds a sense of fashion. The Joybook Q41 is equipped with Intel Core2 Duo processor and Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system that offers breakthrough gadgets for Windows SideShow, enabling users to quickly browse for the information they need on the auxiliary display and enjoy personal entertainment without opening the laptop.

The auxiliary display allows consumers to have immediate access to the Windows Media Player at the touch of a button, to the SlideShow Player to view all their photos, and to access fun games. Consumers can also stay updated by using the RSS Feed Viewer that automatically downloads breaking news or blog articles from favorite subscriptions. For the busy business person, the Joybook Q41 allows convenient access to calendar appointments, latest emails, entire contact lists and even PowerPoint presentations all on the auxiliary display.

Equipped with a 14.1" widescreen and BenQ's exclusive UltraVivid technology with DBEFTM (Display Brilliance Enhancement Film), the Joybook Q41 increases screen brightness and sharpens details to provide consumers with a superior viewing experience. Consumers can also easily experience the convenience of wireless connections by accessing the Internet via high-speed Wi-Fi networks, and connecting to Bluetooth-capable phones and peripherals. Whether at work or at play, consumers can enjoy the freedom of going online, listening to music, and linking to other devices without the constraints and hassles of cables.

Sounds nice, but I don't like the whole "close the lid to use the screen" thing going on with that secondary screen...but for when you just wanna run music, like if you're me and you'd run headphones to it on the way to work...
then I guess it works haha
I'm thinking that I'd prefer to see some form of Nintendo DS-like laptop, though, that means I can use a N92 gaming keyboard and have some sysspec as I game..

when i first read the title to the story i thought that BenQ had figured out a way to put two monitors on one laptop. like maybe the laptop would open up and then you could slide out a second full size monitor. that would be perfect for non-linear editors who do a lot of field work. any many other good uses. this second 2.5 inch screen seems useless to me.

agreed, and 14.1" for editing isn't exactly nice...

yea, you gotta spend so much time zooming in and out of edit points and checking video sources that it is practically worthless. i bet some company is working on the idea i mentioned. if not maybe i should patent it!

Is it just me, or does it look exactly like the reference design for the Windows SideShow laptop?

whats the point ?

i dont get this "gimmick" at all, you want to use your laptop, is it going to make it easier to listen to music with the screen down ? what the hell is the point in it, whats wrong with having the screen up like its meant to be unless you live in a very very small box and you dont have room to lift the main screen up ? it is pointless :shadedshu

Well, a large screen wastes more power. You can use the small screen + windows sideshow and have it give you info you want like weather, music etc allowing you to save energy and your laptop run longer. Once sideshow gets more popular, there will be more addons for it.
