GoldenEye Almost Came to Xbox Live

N64 fans will remember GoldEye as being an instant classic, and many gamers have been calling for Nintendo or Microsoft to release it on the Virtual Console and Xbox Live Arcade respectively, which had always seemed unlikely. However, Rare has recently revealed that the game was within two months of being released on Xbox Live. According to the game's original developer, the port had been in development for several months, and would be identical to the original other than that it would feature an online multiplayer mode and several characters would have to be removed due to licensing issues. Unfortunately, just as it was nearing completion, Microsoft and Nintendo couldn't agree on the financial side of things - apparently whether Nintendo would receive a one-off payment or a cut of the revenues.

I hope Nintendo will agree! The game is one of my all time favorites and to be able to play on xbox live? My god man, it would make Nintendo want to make another one!

GoldenEye - the greatest console FPS, Nintendo knew they couldn't let that appear on a rival console.

Goldeneye was the best game of its time, the graphics are sorely outdated now but that doesn't really matter.

Rare made Golden Eye, M$ bought Rare.. Golden not on Wii unless it's also on 360.

Hmm, I forgot about the virtual console on Wii. Rare is owned by Microsoft though. I would like to see it on any modern console again, but the multiplayer would be best on Live.

Nintendo owns the rights 100% to the game just like M$ has rights to Halo, Rareware and M$ has no say over the game at all, I bet a Halo port for the Wii was one of the stumbling blocks.

Lots of good memories with Goldeneye. Big head mode. Paintball mode. And cannot forget the good ol golden gun. Hmm, maybe it will show up on the Wii in some form?
