Sapphire Readying HD 4870 With 2 GB Memory

ATI Radeon specialist Sapphire is preparing a new SKU based on its recently unveiled cooler design based on its Vapor-Chamber technology. In an attempt to step up performance and spicing up specifications sheets, the company plans to load 2 GB of GDDR5 memory on an HD 4870 accelerator. To hold that much memory, GDDR5 chips are populated on both sides of the PCB. The chips on the back of the card are cooled by a heatsink, while the ones in the front are subjected to the fan's air-flow. The card uses reference AMD clock speeds of 750/900 MHz (core/memory). DVI, D-Sub and DisplayPort make for the card's connectivity. It is expected to be priced at 258 EUR.

I suppose there is that to consider. I love and hate Crysis all at the same time. If I didn't enjoy playing it (and want to max out E:TW, Stalker Clear Sky et cetera) then I wouldn't be too bothered about these new cards.
I don't really have an excuse to moan (not that it will stop me) about luxuries, but I have the upgrade itch right now (the 8800GTX has done me proud for a couple of years).

The best part of this card is the power circuitry cooler methinks.

DarknovaInteresting. I'm certainly interested in the cooler. I must say I'm impressed by my current Sapphire 4870 (after a dreadful 3870). However 2GB, I don't know, seems a bit much IMO.
might aswell have it. the Cooler is a nice change from the blower fan type.

BIG PHAT 'BUMP'
Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 2 GB Vapor-X
DriverHeavenToday Sapphire becomes the first GPU manufacturer to attach 2 GB of DDR5 to a Radeon 4870 making it one of the most impressive models available in terms of paper specifications. They haven’t stopped there however as the card also features their own PCB design and a cooler based on the Vapor-X technology which we have seen on a few of their previous cards.

We are lucky enough to have one of these new cards on our test bench and have run it through a number of real world tests to show exactly how consumers benefit from the increased memory and new cooler.

Is the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 Vapor-X 2 GB worth the extra money?
Interesting review. :)
