@Dragam1337 we get it that Exynos is worse than Snapdragon. Doesn't make the Exynos S22's bad phones, just worse than their SD counterparts.

We are talking a 40% difference in battery life and almost as much performance between an exynos s22 and an s23.

The s22 exynos was always terrible value, but now that the s23 is available, then it is decidedly half brained to get an exynos s22...

If the s23 is too expensive, then get a cheaper brand with the snapdragon chip.

Just like how bulldozer wasnt "bad". It was just super power hungry, put out TONS of heat, and was slower then core i3s. And aged like milk. But you know, otuside of all that, it wasnt BAD. I mean, it was......cheap?

Same with snapdragon 810s, actually. Remember that trash? All the same problems, everyone said "oh its not that bad" then the moment the SD 820 came out everyone punted those hot potato 810s out the window.

By all accounts, the xeynos is, indeed, a BAD product. It's slower, hotter, pulls WAY more power, and offers a significantly worse experience. And in the EU, it barely saves you any cash.

I used a 6s plus for quite a while, still have a thing for them. It also has a 3.5mm jack and the sound output is really nice. If I found a good condition 128gb, which is pretty rare, as i have never seen one for sale where i live, i would keep it.

This one is mint, not a single scratch on it. Battery at 100% condition, and lasts all day easily. I can't tell if it was refurbished, but it doesn't look like it was ever tampered with. It was probably some store showcase piece that was just forgotten somewhere... it's fully functional and in excellent physical condition. I was surprised to see that Apple Pay works on this phone just fine, too.

In general I've liked it so much and despite the quite aged camera, it's perfectly capable of meeting my phone needs. For the equivalent of $80 USD, I'd say quite a find.

I haven't been able to charge through my lightning port for about a month now. I have been wireless charging, and I gotta say.. I don't like it. The phone and charger get super hot because it is on my mattress. I spent some time at my providers website to try and find the best deal on a new phone. The new 15 series is way more than I want to pay, since I have 3 lines on my plan lol.. I ended up going with a 14 Pro in Black, with 1TB of space. My XS Max has 256, but they didn't have that size just 128 and 512 were my other options. Not sure why I chose 1TB lol.. ahh well.. last lightning phone. I will take better care of this one.. the environment at work is hard on my phone. I can literally put all of my music, movies, photos and all that on there now.

Today, I did the annoying and nerve-wracking process of upgrading to LineageOS 20 (Android 13) on my daily-driver Pixel 3.

20231105_160026_HDR.jpg

As the Pixel 3 only officially supports up to Android 12, this marks the first "unsupported" version I've installed on it.

The annoying part is retaining root after the upgrade, but I got there in the end.

At some point, I need to replace the battery and charge port on this phone. Brand-new parts and tools from iFixit total about $60, but I'm curious what a repair shop would charge to do it all.

I upgraded from the iPhone 13 Pro and Apple gave me $450 as a trade-in value for it. I always buy directly from Apple. Sure, it may cost a little bit more, but the device is carrier unlocked; just the way I like it.

Eu has indeed historically always been shafted by samsung. Which is why i dont get why eu people didn't get the s23 knowing this.
Dunno if you've noticed or not, but S23 comes with SD worldwide(though it isn't clear if Samsung keeps it that way for S24 and onwards).
But just to make it clear - smartphone experience is not just about CPU/GPU benchmark performance. 4G/5G connectivity, VoLTE support, Image processing pipeline and of course AI/ML features all add up to your overall "feel". Throttling and heat is also a big part of it (which ironically in S22 FE was a con for SD8 gen1).
Not sure about everyone else, but when I buy a new phone, the question "how much does it score in Antutu" is probably at the bottom of my checklist(if even there).

I have a S22 ultra with the "crappy" exynos CPU, i am getting about 3 days of normal use. and it is still a very good phone. Maybe i would notice the millisecond faster response of the SD version idk

Just installed Android 14 on my S23, before the update 88,7Gb free storage space, after the update 96,2Gb free left, so that's nice as well.
Sofar no issues.

New Moto G73 owner. Spent quite a few hours setting it up last night and for the most part it was pretty much problem free except that whatsapp didnt want to transfer chats so i had to do it the old way with backing up the chats on the old handset then registering the number on the new device and doing a backup restoration.

Some issues:

1. Cant find option to enable VOLTE calling or Wi-Fi calling on despite guides on motorolas website giving instructions and pictures of where the options are - They arent there.

2. I dont have the option to turn on the netspeed thing that tells me how fast my internet is in the status bar while im using it - my past two or three devices had this!

3. I cant set a schedule for battery saver to turn on and off. My Note 9 Pro Max had this feature and I scheduled it to turn on between 1-8am every night to save on battery. All i get is the option to have it auto activate if the battery falls under a certain charge, say like 15 or 20%. (*learned later on it was a non-stock android option)

4. I have to go into developer options to see how much ram im using or being used. Like fucking why?? why bury it in the developer options? (IS THIS A STOCK ANDROID THING???) I cant wrap my brain around why they did this but I have 8GBs of ram to play with and I dont think I ever got close to maxing out the 6GB on my Note 9 Pro Max. Although Xiaomi's own background garbage did eat up a lot of it.

5. A bug relating to the refresh rate. I get three options Auto/Adaptive, 60hz or 120hz. If i set it to 60hz (because i dont game on it) to eek out the battery life between charges. Youtube videos start to stutter real bad and the videos im watching arent even 60fps. Went into the developer options and turned on 'show refreshrate' and even when videos are 30 or 60fps the phone stutters and occasionally tries to hit 90fps/hz

Its quite a well documented bug sort of relating to this thread here - But as you can see motorola/Lenovo reps are basically just bots and i dont expect any fixes.

-------

These things asside, its pretty much an all out upgrade if you ignore that the screen is still IPS. Ive basically made it a clone of my old phone as far as theme and wallpaper goes. I rarely change that stuff so once its set, I dont touch it. I also didnt bother using Motorola's own themes as I already have a premium version of Novalauncher because I hated MiUi. Im getting a lot more options under the hood to mess with and since its close to being stock android it hasnt been messed with the same way as MiUi where Xiaomi translates it from English to Chinese then to Engrish and it becomes your typical cheap chicom stuff you can see on amazon where they market the hell out of it with a tonne of buzz words but in reality its nowhere near as good as they hyped it up to be.

I can also have my own ringtones and notification tones again. Xiaomi made it almost impossible to do it with the last MiUi update for my handset. Before, all you had to do was put all your tones in a specific folder. The latest MiUi update now ignores that folder and buries it somewhere deep in the system folder where you need root access to get to it so i had to do things the long way round and load the ringtone up in a music player to play a song then 'set as ringtone' and I could only do that for ringtones but not notification tones - Have no problem with this on stock android.

Overall. Its lighter and slightly smaller so it sits in my hand more comfortably. Using it is a much less convoluted experience although a I see a lot of people loving MiUi in youtube comments on Xiaomi reviews.

(Bonus)

Camera is probably garbage but since im coming from a budget device anyway, Im not expecting to be completely blown away by the picture quality anyway but from a lot of reviews they said it could/should have come with a better camera for the RRP -- But i didnt buy it at its RRP. I bought it at 26% off.

(Final verdict)

Im not totally wowed (although im not the sort of person to be wowed by mobile phones. I never have been.) by the device so far but it ticks 99% of boxes for my needs and requirements.... Stereo Speakers, More built in storage, MicroSD slot, decent amount of RAM -- Every other feature was pretty much secondary or a bonus feature so im not really taking that shit for granted either.

Coffee Fry GIF

::EDIT::

- Finally found the Wi-Fi Calling toggle. I dont know if I needed an update to unlock that feature but the handset went through a few more android updates (and also October security patch :D) then It appeared ripe for the toggling. I assume its a region locked feature that can be unlocked with a software update the same way as NFC to some regions.

- Seeing the VoLTE icon/symbol in random places so I also assume that VoLTE is on by default without me having to turn it on and no way to toggle it on and off.

- Bug for the refreshrate still exists. But Ive played with it enough to know that everything else apart from youtube works perfect fine if manually set to 60Hz. It only gets stuttery if I have it manually set to 60hz and I watch a 30fps video on youtube. There seems to be some sort of conflict in the code where Moto says "NEIN!! YOU VILL RUN AT SIXTY HERTZ JAAA??" and youtube app starts to panic and trigger some sort of epic fight over fps. However, Videos that were recorded in 60fps on YT work perfectly fine and if I connect up to my NAS and watch a video rip that was recorded in 30fps in MXPlayer. I still have no problems at all. So im not quite sure whats going on there and battery life is good so far so i've left the refreshrate set to Auto/Adaptive. (maybe there is another option or setting i need to tweak somewhere)

Still loving how light it is compared to my previous handset. Like honest to God if I jumped in a lake with the old one. It would probably drown me. Definitely noticing the lack of weight hanging off my waist or trousers/shorts when out walking with it.

In the US, VoLTE is controlled by the carrier and is activated with your SIM, you cant force it on. Is it the same in euroland? Did your previous phone have it? If not, maybe you need a new SIM.
3. I cant set a schedule for battery saver to turn on and off. My Note 9 Pro Max had this feature and I scheduled it to turn on between 1-8am every night to save on battery. All i get is the option to have it auto activate if the battery falls under a certain charge, say like 15 or 20%.
Motorola doesnt have anything like that. AFAIK stock android doesnt have that function, only third party ROMs like samsung's have this feature.
Yes this is a stock android thing. I forget when google started hiding it.

This kind of thing makes me wary of buying a new moto to replace mine. I've heard not great things about the G stylus 2023 5g, and I refuse to get one of the pathetic mediatek G powers.

I think most networks in the UK support VoLTE at this stage. But I think some phone manufacturers are maybe locking that feature out based on region. For instance if a Samsung handset in the US has it but the same handset in the UK wont which is rather funny. I had a VoLTE option on my Note 9 Pro Max.

Motorola doesnt have anything like that. AFAIK stock android doesnt have that function, only third party ROMs like samsung's have this feature.

Thanks. Im not super familiar with stock android. I cant remember the last time I was on a complete stock android build but the closest was probably an AOSP build on my old Oppo Find 7A a very long time ago so im still kinda feeling things out.

Yes this is a stock android thing. I forget when google started hiding it.

Thanks - well battery life is still very good so im not too mad but the power saving mode when battery is at 15% should be a default thing IMO. I shouldnt need to schedule it.

You can bypass by loading on a different rom? Im sure there will be better one with more bug fixes. I tried looking for G73 roms to see what was available before i got set up and it seems most of G73 stuff is under development which is weird to me as the handset has been out since Jan 2023 according to GSMArena. That should have been plenty of time to get development sorted. But maybe it was a paper launch and handsets are only just starting to enter the retail channel in greater numbers.

thanks for your insight anyway. It might be slightly backwards but its better than MiUi

Google Pixel 7 Pro. Very happy with it. I upgraded from a Pixel 5 and the Pixel 7 Pro seemed a bit bulky at first, but I quickly got used to it. The Pixel 5 feels too small now (my Mrs still uses a Pixel 5).

Finally got release OneUI 6.0 w/ Android 14 on S23, for Canada S911W model! Rogers leaked Nov 21st, so it was right on cue, although mine is unlocked and not from a carrier. Turns out you get what you pay for ($11 Amazon case turned from off-white to gray from absorbing dust), so also put on a Speck Presidio case ($20). What a classic - Speck is definitely a 2010s brand lol (candyshell anyone?).

Currently g9 play and Oneplus 8 pro.

g9 play is for work and banking apps (not rooted), I left it on android 10 as the battery life is insanely good on this thing and dont want to upset the way this phone is working. No notification LED, so using AODNotify.

One plus 8 pro my personal phone and use for checking news, tiktok etc. Again no notification LED so using AODNotify, it has a built in always on display feature, but it forces you to keep something lit all times, cant just be used for notifications plus drains like crazy whilst AODNotify is much more subtle. But anyway this phone is rooted, the oneplus camera app is way better than the google camera app I used to use on my oneplus6 (everyone on XDA claiming google camera app better than oneplus),l did replace oneplus dialer with google dialer (possible by installing dialer framework with magisk rooted), as the google dialer gives caller ID for companies etc.
The phone is rooted running Android 11, again trying to use as old Android as i can get away with as every new major version has regressions I dont like, compared to Android 9 it has scaling issues which I have had to work on for my liking, the UI on 11 is kind of like Windows 11, everything so big as if everyone has eye sight problems, also using gravity box to enhance the UI, and a custom kernel to disable vibration (why on why is vibration forced upon us). The phone performance is amazing, and I do feel phones are now at the point, that there is no need to upgrade for performance, as you cant get faster than instant.
Best camera ever had on a phone I owned as well. The one gripe i have with oneplus phones though is an OxygenOS trait, it tends to kill apps agressively in the background, kind of like a built in app killer. Its a well known issue but most people its battery life features causing it, but its memory manegement inside OOS. But for the most part very happy with the device, funny think is this was sitting in a box for 2 years before I started using it, as I just never got round to migrating stuff over.

My oneplus 6 is actually on the verge of failing, I now have to put it in the fridge for a short time if I need to boot it up otherwise the bootup process makes it shutdown, and once booted I have to heavily throttle the cpu for it to stay stable.
