sorry to be repeating the question, but when you boot on nvme, do you disable the Sata3 controller, the gigabyte controller, and the i dont remember what it s called special controller (my motherboard has 10 or 12 sata plugs).

on most gigabyte, to use the nvme, the only other controller you leave enabled is the sata2. else, freeze at post, OC or not.

Thanks for the tips. Yes I have followed the instructions from several pages back by disabling GSATA6_7/IDE Controller, but not 8_9.

The two SATA drives are plugged into the native ICH10R/SATA2 ports right now (the 6 blue ones I presume, the 4 white ones must be the GSATA6_7/8_9).

I have now taken the NVME converter out of the PCIE socket, since once it drops out of the boot priority list, the POST no longer hangs at blinking prompt, but once in Windows it doesn't even get detected as a storage drive...

Might be a thing with this particular SiS M.2, who knows. I have some other sticks lying around and will find time to re-mod the firmware when I feel adventurous again...

Good day everyone, there is the possibility of making a modification so that the rx5700 works more, on other boards it works by enabling Asus Express Gate but my "Sabertooth x58" does not have that option, I think it does not allow the system to boot because it is a UEFI gpu.

I speak Spanish, forgive the translation.

Placa base: GIGABYTE X58A-UD 3R (Rev 2.0)
Controladora NVM Express estándar:
1709640048904.png

SSD Samsung 980PRO:
SCSI\DiskNVMe_______Samsung_SSD_980_PRO_with_Heatsink_1TB5B2QGXA7
SCSI\DiskNVMe_______Samsung_SSD_980_PRO_with_Heatsink_1TB
SCSI\DiskNVMe____Samsung_SSD_980_GXA7
SCSI\DiskNVMe____Samsung_SSD_980_
SCSI\DiskNVMe____
SCSI\NVMe____Samsung_SSD_980_G
NVMe____Samsung_SSD_980_G
GenDisk

He descargado la BIOS modificada para mi placa:
1709639607998.png

¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ AGRADECIMIENTOS !!!!!!!

hola

you have to edit the 144D_A822.BIN with hex editor, and replace the A822 with A80A (could appear inverted, like 22 A8 to replace with 0A A8)

then reinject the modified .BIN file (that you can rename 144D_A80A.BIN for future reference)

depending on how many opt rom there are in the bios, you can add the new one, or replace the old bin with the modified one.

please be careful / dont brick your bios / use bios backup / proceed with caution / i decline all responsability / goodluck / suerte :)

Hola

Saludos.

hello everyone. I`ve tested the bios mod for GA EX58 UD5.
The checksum of the latest original bios was D100 and the one from the biosmod was D800.
Maybe this is the reason why my system didnt boot after flashing the modded bios.

your system didnt boot or it didnt POST ? there s a difference.

if you still can access the bios, it posts, but doesnt boot. there you should check what controllers are active and disable sata 3 if still enabled.

if the system posts but hangs when you want to access the bios : switch off, power off, remove the nvme, switch on, disable sata 3, save, power off, put back nvme.

Sorry for the mix up. It didnt post and kept looping. The flash was successful though and didnt threw any warnings.

Hello friends!
First thank the author that creates these modifications, I wish you all the best.

I have a question!
Motherboard "ASUS Z8NR-D12" successfully updated the bios to 2022/ASUS Z8NR-D12 NVMe SSD BIOS MOD, but unfortunately does not see the memory module. Tell me what should I do?

with respect to you!

Hi, I've just come across this thread. I have an P6X58D-E and I would like to get a 4TB NvME drive as a boot drive (haven't purchased it yet). Is someone still supplying the BIOS updates if you provide your device details?

nope. no one is there to add drives to existing bioses. but if your bios is there you might be able to add your drive in it, not very complex to do. unsure the 4tb will work as a boot device on a legacy system though
2tb behaves weirdly already so I wouldn't advice a 4tb unless you get proof someone did it.

Thanks MrPanda. Sorry if it's a stupid question, but is there a way of seeing a list of all the drives that have been added for my board?

more or less yes. again it depends if u have a ami or award bios. i always forget which is which. on my gigabyte i use a specific version of CBROM, which allows to list the pci modules present in the bios, and each module is named after the ID code.
then i extract the modules i dont need, modify one with the ID code of my 2TB samsung, reinject the mod, and, in my case, it worked. it worked also for others, but we re talking gigabyte here. for Asus you ll have to read a bit the 10 last pages to see if it s the same or if it s a different tool that you need.

beware, though :
with my 1TB samsung it worked perfect, booting fast and all. when i did use the 2TB, i lost around 20 to 40 seconds on cold boot because... "because". i dont know why. the drive behaves strangely and takes 20 second post boot, and another 20 second when the windows logo appear before booting really happens.

4TB is a REAL problem, you wont be allowed to make one huge 4TB partition, as a starter, it exceeds limits of Legacy boot. you need GPT and UEFI for that. But it is possible to have 2 (or even more) nvme depending on how many PciExpress x16 you have on your board, how they're shared, how the bandwith is shared with the cpu or the chipset, etc. it s kind of an adventure.

i would advice to go slow and easy, read a lot (because in fact all the answers are here in the last 10 to 15 pages), proceed with caution, insure you have a dual bios motherboard in case things go wrong, and be ready to maybe accept if everything fails, that you bought a nvme for nothing.

because i cannot guarantee anything there. even if you had exactly the same motherboard than me, i wouldnt _guarantee_ anything, cause i had quite a lot of strange things happening before i get a totally stable solution, so.... as i said, adventure.

goodluck

Hello
Please some guidance .
Well I need to use the bios mod already created and tested
I read in the first post that for Sabertooth x58 it was tested the bios mod with Samsung :
Samsung Evo 970 Plus NVMe MZVLB500HBJQ MZ-V7S500 Solid State Drive
SAMSUNG MZVLB500HBJQ (FW: 4M2QEXF7)
Model Capacity: XXX.X GiB (~XXX GB)
Model Type: Fixed, SSD - Bus: NVMe (17)
PCI\VEN_144D&DEV_A808
and it is OK .
But i don't understand what is XXX GiB the code MZVLB500HBJQ is for 500 Gb .
Should i suppose that the same PCI\VEN_144D&DEV_A808 is ok for Samsung 970 Plus 1Tb MZ-V7S1T0BW because they share same controller ??? Or device ID is changing from 500 Gb to 1 Tb ?

Ok
I read a lot of pages from this thread .
With the info get it I figured out how to .
Finally was a success for Sabertooth x58 and Samsung 980 pro 1 Tb nvme . First update the bios .After the nvme it shows in Disk drives and boot configuration. Installed Windows 10 pro and it's done .
Thanks Ismail and all people who share their experience here .
I will post some pictures here later.

Did anyone else notice a slight but noticeable difference in boot time when booting from the NVME?
I've done a FF14 endwalker benchmark before and after inserting the nvme adapter and the results have a negative 2000 difference in score.
My theory is that the Pcie adapter of the NVME might be the cause if I'm the only one having performance drop on these 2 ends.

I'd like to hear about other people their experience.

you might want to test inserting the nvme on the third nvme slot since this slot might behave differently compared to slot one and 2. Because it's controlled by(shared) the southbridge, Like the sata drives.
