This is very simple. Default towards the most complete edition where more than one exists.
Meaning as delivered with DLC and all other packs, which Assassin's Creed game is overall the best to play through.
There are simply too many options to conduct a formal poll.

After purchasing AC: Origins I've started to delve into what (if any) game in this series would be enjoyable to pursue next. Since this one was unlikely to figure in any conversation I'm openly mentioning it as an outsider option that caught my eye. The only AC to arrive on the PlayStation Vita, Assassin's Creed Liberation.

Black flag was tons of fun and I spent the most time playing ACO.

Month or so ago I passed on three boxed AC releases; Bundle of I Director's Edition with II, III, and another I can't remember. The reason for doing so was Windows compatibility and ability to play full screen on a 4K screen. Happily all are available as downloads bypassing these concerns.

I'm utterly confused by the number of options and do appreciate some help.

I played them all about 5 month ago with only one issue which was mouse acceleration which can be fixed for the most part. BUT Black Flag might be a challenge at 4K.

some of the old AC's have no fps cap too, which makes it a very smooth buttery experience in high refresh.

Can understand that viewpoint only so far without playing any of them beyond Origins. Which I do like. Almost perversely wish the stealth/crowd blending/ parkour had been taken up late in the modern games despite the large reservations about current releases from Ubi.

Odyssey was actually my fallback since the Ultimate version comes with AC III/Liberation. Fear is if I hold off until late next year or whenever the AC [Japan] releases it is going to be wasted time.

Maybe look in to video's on them see if you like them or not, i personally enjoyed the change with Odyssey ( long game with DLCs ) but went to far with Valhalla and seemed lazy.

But if your in for the story early AC's are worth playing.

Ha, spent too much time on videos only to come away seeing through all the many flaws of each game. I knew when I started to think a bad port of game for a short lived handheld looked good I was spinning in circles.

Black Flag I believe is getting a remaster at some point according to a leak. Still my favorite of the entire series and replayed it recently.

By long term sales volume I see it sits on top with III between it and Origin. Remaster would be interesting if it worked better on hardware from this decade.

Not sure if it's most complete but I really liked the Valhalla one just because vikings. In AC:Valhalla your men sing as you sail around. The Greek one was good too, Odyssey.

For me, the best of the classics is a tie between AC 2 and IV. Of the RPGish age of the franchise, it's a tie between Origins and Odyssey.

I can't end without also mentioning my biggest gripes when it comes to Ubi franchises. On the top of that list is Splinter Cell, for the way they abandoned it, and even had the gall to turn Sam Fisher into a cartoon character on a silly phone version of the game. A close second is the way they went from a real life location, to a fictional one with a sci fi story in the Ghost Recon franchise. Lastly, the way they turned Watch Dogs into a silly comedy that can't be taken seriously anymore.

Way to go Ubi, your track record is not so good when you refuse to listen to your customers.

It sadly just aged very poorly.

A remake of it would have made SO much more sense than a remake of ac3, which was always a fairly lacklustre game... but that's ofc the game they decided to remake -_-'

I also feel Brotherhood and Revelations didn't come close to measuring up to AC 2.

It's the first AC and IV/Rogue for me. I really liked where the original AC story was going, it was misterious, yet sadly the storyline just disappeared. I found solace in Black Flag and Rogue themes. Unity wasn't all that bad either, basically the hardest gameplay to master since the beginning of the series.

The game already looks fantastic for it's age, but somehow still throws my 7900XTX around.

Expansions essentially never do.

Yes, I agree, but I mentioned it because many people lump those 3 together as if they are equal, when they're really not.

I loved Origins. Surprisingly it ran well and looked great on a potato.

I think I will dive into the Ezio trilogy next, as I haven't been gaming much lately and need something exciting.

I picked up the trilogy for $5 on sale...

Being Black Friday weekend you should be able to pick it up for almost nothing on the Ubi store.

Didn't age poorly at all to me. I replayed a lot of these older ones recently and had a lot of fun, so I guess everyone likes different things, heh.

The sailing in that game is still to this day one of the best in a game. I remember playing it on launch at 1440p and being blown away by the water and sailing physics. I think that is one of the ones that is capped fps, and I am a high refresh whore, so I tend to skip the capped ones. ; ;
