The Issue:
As soon as you go into the RAM Settings and Enable change the Performance Mode from "AMD AGESA Default" to "Aggressive" the CPU VCORE and VSOC gets DOUBLED in short spikes constantly. (even the IGP at the desktop shoots up to 100°C in two seconds.

The 7800X3D has been completely destroyed within 15 Minutes (crashed, locked up and then it never posted again.)

Here is a 10 and a half HOUR long HWINFO session i fortunately had left over after making a full screenshot in a game with just EXPO enabled and nothing else.. (All voltages are completely normal, the First CPU VDDCR Voltage at 1.131V "Current" is the VCore, below that is the SOC Voltage...)
AGESA DEFAULT.png

And here is a screenshot in a game a couple minutes after booting with the aggressive timings preset while playing a game. (The Voltages as well as the IGPU Temperature at the bottom of the list is highlighted in Blue.)

This is why you verify settings when you overclock, before you run a stress test. Bios can be corrupted, etc.
BTW, your cpu cooler was running half the speed it was when you ran stock settings. TBH it appears you did this on purpose.

so because i upped my fans by 100 RPM when my 7900XTX heats up a lot is a "manipulation" to a point that just doubles your HARD LOCKED VCORE which i can not change without hardware mods and soldering is "on purpose"?

I mean most definitely not from AMD according to how they're named. What does "aggressive" even do and why would it change vcore, very bizarre. You sure you didn't change anything else ?

Just noticed the speed never increased from idle speed.
Also possibility HWINFO bugged out. You have no idea what voltage was actually applied. What did it say in BIOS?

Kind of curious how you managed to get a HWINFO screen with that voltage if it died? How you do that?

Were you unable to read what he wrote ? It came as spikes during load... how the f*** was he supposed to verify that beforehand...

And half the speed... did you fail math aswell as reading ? Went from aprox 1600 rpm to aprox 1200 rpm...

Not that fanspeed has ANY relevance for the cpu being blasted with 2.4v...

i have not changed anything and know what was set by hand and what not. i had my bios setup, overclocked the SoC and tweaked the curve optimizer (for over a week) and then i found and clicked on the "perfomance mode" submenu, enabled aggressive, F10 and this happened imediately.
i rebooted after the first spike, disabled it and everything was normal.
i tried it again and then it did not spike for ~10 minutes, i played a game and the CPU clocked really low (which you can see at just 4.675GHz) then it spiked again while in tarkov arena, made the screenshot and stopped the game a couple minutes later.
on the desktop it happened again twice (just when i wanted to shut the PC down) and the PC froze. (sound, mouse and image was in slow motion)
CMOS reset, no Post, CPU LED.
currently i have another 7700X and it works perfectly fine in the board.

Kind of curious how you managed to get a HWINFO screen with that voltage if it died? How you do that?
the voltages set were exactly the same (VCore is as said disabled) and not even visible but in windows it was the same, and SoC is still the stock expo 1.25V. it just spiked randomly and doubled both voltage it survived 3 or 4 spikes within 15 minutes.

I'd have to believe that amount of voltage amounts to "Insta-Death" of the chip instead of it running for a couple of minutes BUT that in itself doesn't mean the issue isn't there.
Maybe HWMonitor didn't read these voltages accurately but the fact the chip died quickly and HWMonitor was showing voltages beyond just being "Off", that has to count for something here.

I've no doubt of the OP's honesty here and to say something you see that's not right or to experience it yourself, it's better to say something of it than be silent about it, letting others experience the carnage for themselves... Which can be expensive to correct.

I've little doubt this BIOS version will probrably disappear quickly from ASRock's site, that would confirm an issue is taking place if it happens.

I think the board might have been busted from the get go, I'd stop using it and RMA it as well.

as long as i don't use this aggressive mode everything works fine. this seems to be either a bug in the bios or a bug in whoever made this whole menu and mode.

Aggressive mode should only change the sub-timings on the DRAM and VDDIO_mem as it's only a memory related function. Looks like someone at ASRock messed up. Email them and get a new CPU :)

I wouldn't put the X3D back in that board.

Is this the infamous AsRock quality?? Haven't bought a board from them in many years. Cause their boards always sucked. Right there with Biostop motherboards, err Biostar. Fine for defaults, always some quirks with OC.

Hope the new cpu works good. Better just default the board and leave it that way. Not even sure if DOCP would be safe :O

Please read the following thread on HWiNFO forums

This is an issue of almost all Zen3/4 CPUs probably on some particular SMU.
Its false CPU reporting of some readings where it sends exactly double values

This is going for 6+ months and still no fix

1707939829494.png

1707939861631.png

Different systems have different value errors
Mine for example never reported high SoC voltage but others do

This is happening as far as I know on almost all vendor boards (ASUS, GB, AsRock, MSI)

I seeing this randomly (10% or less) after Gaming
And usually its just the temp (Die avg) for me
The x2 mem clock/ratio only happened a couple of times

Other systems may see different x2 error reporting values

And its not software monitor related as someone posted screenshots of OCCT reporting the same.
Its most likely an error in CPU SMU

I lean more and more towards a faulty reading, 70W at 84C seems pretty normal, I don't think that would be the case with that crazy high voltage in the screenshot you posted.

I think something definitely went wrong but it wasn't related to that.
