Just got done spending over 4 hours troubleshooting GPU, Power, fTPM, NVME HMB, etc.
I was having major stuttering in games like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and HBS'BattleTech.
'thought it was a bad PCI-E 8-pin power cable (again) but, no.

After a bunch of (mostly pointless) troubleshooting, I uninstalled the Update that installed earlier today.
Suddenly 'all better'.

You are using pure AMD. Just try Linux like I do. I got fed up with windows stability in last months.

If all you do is game on Steam, I would recommend ChimeraOS, its AMD only and has the latest kernel of Linux usually, designed solely for gaming, it's very similar to SteamOS, but only for AMD users.

If you use your OS for more than gaming and light browsing, then I guess Linux Mint Edge Cinnamon or latest Ubuntu would be ok.

I was planning on moving back to Win10EntIoTLTSC, since I was only on 11 for the cross-card AFMF.
You have a point, nonetheless.

I've been on/off looking into that.
I have a 1st-release 'Deck, too. MiteBcool to start moving in that direction.

Perhaps, next install: Dual-Boot Win10EntIoTLTSC+ChimeraOS?
I know there's GoG games I play in Windows, and am unsure of the Linux compatibility.
(Though, IIRC Valve and community have gotten Proton much further than I'd ever expected.)

I wonder. Is there a difference in performance for games when you run different OS with the same hardware? Talking about Win vs Linux
It should not matter but I hope you guys have had a chance to try it and got something to say about that.

Heroic Launcher for Epic Games Store games and GoG games, or you can just copy over the entire game file of a GoG game, add the exe launcher to steam library, that should work too. protondb is the database you use to see if a game will work or not, so you don't waste your time.

yeah lots of news articles recently about Linux all AMD systems beating out Windows scores from the same rig in multiple games.

I can confirm it. Thanks to Lord Gaben and father Torvalds.

I use plain Fedora. If you are lazy try Nobara OS, it has everything in out of the box for gaming, but I like it plain, so I know what's changed or not from stock.

Currently I jumped to Fedora 40 Beta, you can do Stable 39 with mainline kernel 6.8, if you want more bleeding edge, Git and compile latest mesa for more Radeon extensions. For Radeon OC use LACT tool. There is a handy ProtonUp-Qt tool configuring versions for each game. I launch GoG games from Steam, but there are various ways installing Epic launcher too.

Give yourself a pleasure and experiment with different filesystems that currently get multiple speed related in kernel fixes. Try BTRFS, F2FS(currently testing) even old EXT4 has speed fixes.

In grub add mitigations=off(f*ck exploits I am on Linux and compile from source as much I can) and amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff and update it, so Radeon DRM allows OC or UV whatever.

Hi,
Ouch turned into a linux thread pretty quickly hehe

Glad you tested the updates I usually try to avoid for at least a couple months
Patch Tuesdays are hell to keep MS update service at bay though lol

I use pause updates for up to 20 years lol but has no effect on the update service phoning home all the freaking time :banghead:

Same thing happened to me, that new update ruined my processor's performance, and it wouldn't let me uninstall the update. Every time I tried, on restart it reinstalled itself. It behaved like a virus. I also have AMD, but 6800. I had been searching for other people who reported the same problem and this is the only one that popped up. I had to factory reset and block windows update to fix it.

Yep I got sick of MS's bullshite and Linux is much more stable and faster.

Mint Linux here and the same apps run like crap on windows that are fast and nice on Linux like bitwig has more audio stuttering and pops and cracks while same app same system on Linux is smooth and nice.

Wine is not an emulator. It seems you are out of the loop what Proton is.

M$ has gone way too much into cloud, azure development, where they even start to offer linux, like noting that they gave up on windows server. It almost looks that they split up the team and have too much priorities, like AI assistant, but they pile the code up on broken code and do not polish enough the core system. I would like to blame Nadella, he had cloud background, thus shifted too much on it. Yes, there is the money, but you cannot do it forever, you have to have Balance and focus on quality, that Azure and Windows lacks. They are unstable. They need management change actually. They are becoming a meme otherwise.
