Hi,
Got some parts from my brother a couple of months ago, Ryzen 1600x, Msi Tomahawk b350, Fractal Design 1000w psu, 3200 TridentZ ram, R9 Fury.
Almost a full computer, so i bought a case and a M2 drive, 970 evo recently.

When assembled it started without a problem, could install Win10, fiddle in the bios and restart without a problem. Could run benchmarks, both cpu and gpu, all temps normal.

Then i had it off for a couple of days and when i tried starting it up, nothing happens.

No lights on the mobo, fans dont spin, no beeps or anything. The only thing that lights upp is the power connectors for the gpu. White when cable is in, and red without.
So I took out piece for piece to see and try booting up. Nothing happened.

Got a bit disappointed and reassembled everything, then suddenly, it starts.
I put it back in place and it started again.

Worked as it should, had it on overnight, and when I checked it the day after i had no screen. Ram RGB were on but the computer did not respond on anything.
Pulled the plug and Im back at square one.

I updated the bios to the latest (beta) bios.

But my question is, what can be wrong? The psu is around 5 - 7 years old. I could try a different ram stick (i have one spare) but that is the only option left for me. I even tried a different ON button, took one from an old Define R4, didnt help.

Hi..
1.Test your psu with a psu tester and see if the voltages are correct or not.
2.check your psu connectors. Look for any burnt or broken terminals
3.Use a different ram stick
4.use a different ram slot
5.look for any stand offs touching the backside of the motherboard..(ones you did not put a screw in)
6.use a different pcie slot for your graphics card.
7.use a different graphics card or try booting with onboard graphics.
8.reset your bios.
9.check your psu power cable.
10.check your computer case front panel connections..to your motherboard headers.

I have encountered all these while building pcs over the years...these are the most common causes of a non booting pc.

Imho, ram dimms coming loose in the slots seems to be a cause.for example, if the computer is kept in an airconditioned room and when the ac is off and on, the temp variations can cause ram sticks to work loose from the ram slots..

Sounds crazy, but this exact thing happened to a system of mine that worked for a while then would shut off. One of the pins in the 24pin connector was burnt on motherboard, which caused the connector to slightly melt and an unstable power delivery. Sometimes system would boot, sometimes it would lose power during POST, sometimes no response when hitting power button. Caused by a bad PSU cable extension (don't use them anymore).

I had the same problem with a Gigabyte H-61M motherboard. The EVGA power supply connector was failing, not the PSU, just a pin or two. After replacing the plastic-shell connector it started right up. That's an older board but it has a lot of features for an OEM type part.

The cables and connectors look fine. Tried different ram at different slots.
Rearranged the cables.
Tried other pcie cables.

Gonna take a look at the cpu, reseat it cause i know that dust have been between and causing problems for some I know.

Could the M2 drive interfere?

I've read that the tomahawk b350 isn't the most reliable mobo.

There's a way to start the power supply to diagnose it, that only takes a few minutes.
Disconnect the m.2 to see if it changes anything. It probably won't but give it a try anyway.

In the first post you wrote "The only thing that lights upp is the power connectors for the gpu. White when cable is in, and red without."
Does the light come on when the PS is unplugged? If it does light it's getting power from the CMOS battery. I don't think it's supposed to do that.
