Hey,

I got this TP link UE300C (V2) adapter for my galaxy S9+ and it doesn't work or get recognized as ethernet. I tested it on my laptop and it works fine there.
The "ethernet" option in the phone settings is greyed out.

Has anyone had the same problem? I'm not sure where to start.

Thanks.

My guess would be a lack of driver support.

My Galaxy S9 test phones run Android 9 IIRC, which isn't ancient, but it's far from new (circa 2018). That UE300C dongle uses a Realtek RTL8153 chip. I'm not sure exactly when that chip was released, but drivers for the RTL8153 didn't get added to the mainline Linux kernel until version 5.13, which came out in 2021.

This is just a hunch, obviously - Android uses Linux under the hood, but it's heavily altered. But, your phone probably just doesn't have driver support for that adapter.

Thanks. The last android version is 10 for my S9+ (and I assume for all S9s as well)
When I try to see the price history of the dongle on geizhals.at it shows that it was first listed on the 24th of september 2020. The android 10 update was released around Q1 of 2020 for my phone. Not too far off from one another. There were obviously more updates that came later for the phone.
It might be the V2 version that got updated with some newer drivers. I requested a return on amazon and I get to keep the dongle and get my money back as well, so it's not a big deal anyways.
Have you tried any ethernet dongles and had success with one of your S9 test phones?

There's no drivers in android for that, as said above it will never work. That only works on Windows systems.
