Install from USB

Would appreciate some help on this matter. I've followed every guide, but my z370 plus won't recognize it as a boot drive.

I basically have a computer without an operating system, I formatted the stick to fat32 and transferred the.iso over.

I should say it recognizes it but when I try to boot from it, just no operating system is present.

I've never installed from USB, but with the hurricane creeping up this is the only choice I have right now

Are you using Media Creation Tool for Windows 10? Or Rufus?

What OS are you trying to install?

You can't just copy the ISO over to the flash drive, you have to unpack it and move all the files in the ISO to the flash drive. Or if you are installing Windows 10, just use the media creation tool to create the flash drive for you.

Thanks I didn't know that. It seems Microsoft doesn't offer the tool anymore

use ntfs format if you were booting gpt/uefi, i use rufus all the time to install any os through pendrive

I just downloaded it 5 minutes ago.

Pop the pendive in, download the tool (I just downloaded it, so it is available) and choose the pendrive when asked. Job done.

The site or the tool is prompting you to download the iso? What OS are you using to access the website? It will only let you download the tool if you are using a Windows PC.

I figured it out because my brother's is still on Windows XP. But if I just extract the image on to the drive it will work?

you couldnt just copy paste an os, it wont work that way, you need to create for bootable, use rufus and depending on your motherboard you can swith bettwen mbr(retro) nor gpt/uefi(modern), and the ntfs format should work just fine for uefi

How about using the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool to create the Windows 10 bootable flash drive, but instead point it to the iso you downloaded earlier.

The Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool runs on Windows XP SP2.
