Soft tubing with watercooling is fine if you upgrade frequently. Hard tubing is nice and can work better for tight bends without kinks etc. But more work.

I'm using the same Optimus block on my 7800X3D that I used on my 5950X and 5800X3D. It would have worked on my 3700X too.

Next year I'll probably do a case change and switch to Intel, but that's my own doing. The current loop and system will still be fine.

Like many things, a well built custom loop is cheaper and better in the long and short term than buying a new ewaste AIO every three to five years.

Realistically, you could fill a loop with a high glycol content and corrosion inhibitors just like an AIO, and unlike an AIO you can pick a loop that doesn't mix metals and could potentially several years without being drained and flushed. If you're going to do that you should probably just buy one of the AIOs with a longer 5 year warranty.

Like you said, no mixed metals. Plus the pump isn't anaemic in a custom loop.

so far i can say it's pretty reliable, just keep in mind water and pc components can't be friend. just it
some can't see the difference of liquid cooling and air cooling, they are different, so judging liquid cooling is bad comparing how you do on air cooling is waay too much

Once you get past the fill and no leaks, your golden. I usually have 1-2 and it's always a fitting that came lose when I was fiddling with tube during install. If I actually checked, it wouldnt be a problem. Plus you should always use a second PSU for the fill process and check. No chance of damage if leaks.

Already too much hassle and risk.

I'll stick with my D15, mount and forget.

Got tired of watercooling and back to Aircooling in 2022 .

PS: I used distilled water and the loop didn't need maintenance for 3-4 years (beside the annual dusting off the radiators using air compressor).

What's the reason for only using 2 screws per fan? Since there is a reason a fan has 4 holes... possible frame warping, which could be a huge issue with those A12x25 fans due to the 0.5 mm clearance.

The risk is more than compensated with the biggest benefit of watercooling: once you move the heat in the water, you become THE MASTER OF HEAT.

You can move the heat where you want it, preferably so that it does not heat up other components in the case with no real good reason. You have an option to significantly reduce the temperature in your case, increase life and reliability of the components, etc.

Watercooling is becoming the standard way of cooling stuff in datacentres. They do it for a good reason.

I just unscrew the radiators and vaccuum the non-fan side whilst using a soft brush to loosen dust on the fan side, then I remount them.

As for draining and flushing, I have a T-piece in the inlet of my D5 pump top and a ball valve directly onto the T-piece with about 1m of spare tubing onto that I just cable manage behind the front panel of my case. When I want to drain I just unplug the PC, sit it on the kitchen draining board, flop the 1m of spare hose into the kitchen sink and open the valve. I have a power bank that can deliver 5V 2.4A and I use a USB-to-SATA connector to power the pump only which is a huge time-saver with the drain/flush/fill process. The pump doesn't run at full speed on 5V but it gets the job done well enough to drain the loop, flush it with tap water, drain the tap water, and then refill with premixed coolant. £25 of unnecessary hardware and extra fittings makes the process effortless, with the USB-to-SATA cable for the pumb being the real MVP.

Whole process takes 20-30 minutes, I've done it twice in almost four years, which is probably overkill but gives me peace of mind and is way less effort than fitting a new AIO.

I had a DeepCool AIO leak on me years ago, will never do watercooling ever again. Sure - it was a used AIO and nothing died due to the leak but after experiencing that I'd rather live without something similar ever being possible. Air cooling is basically zero maintenance, just how I like it.

If you like watercooling then just do that if you wish, it's your computer man. . . .

It wasn't a good cooler anyhow, some 120mm-thing. That the leak was caused by the AIO having been used wouldn't surprise me. . . but neither would my own negligence. It might seem like a petty reason to ditch watercooling forever but I'd rather not live with the possibility of things going catastrophically wrong, with the peace of mind.

The problem is that many people online seem to take Linus's views as truth or gospel. A lot of people online seem to have zero capability in using any sort of basic judgment in determining if something online is real or fake. Worse, the more stuff is posted online, they believe ALL of it regardless whether or not it makes any sense at all.

We have seen that with at least one of the people in this specific conversation multiple times on multiple subjects elsewhere on TPU. This person simply believes everything he/she sees online, especially if it's in a video.

Even if TPU forum commenters point out contradictions or falsehoods, this person will continue to defend and justify whatever he/she viewed, often with hilariously atrocious "logic".

But some people are gullible and guys like Linus leverage this naivety into monetization. There's nothing wrong with being an entertainer or novelist. It's just a problem when people don't know recognize fiction when it's put in front of their faces. We've already seen numerous times that Linus has a very questionable level of integrity. But many online don't seem to hold it against him.

when linus made the 80k xbox controller out of real gold, that was the day i stopped watching him (tbf i didn't watch him much before that) but yeah when people are suffering all around, i'd rather see people in positions of power and wealth help people. excess wealth/greed even for a joke is just not my kind of thing. i haven't watched him since. gamersnexus and jayz2cents and hardware unboxed all i watch now.

Linus has always has been a joke.... some videos are entertaining but if I want solid information from a youtube video I tend to trust Gamers Nexus a lot more.
