Looks like a problem with the limitations Microsoft succeeded to put in UEFI mode, namely blocking the loading of legacy or non-Windows operating systems from the BCD menu (non-Microsoft-signed kernels).
One way to fix it would be to use non-UEFI, non-secureboot legacy boot mode and non-GPT, MBR-style disk partitions. But that would mean a complete reinstall.

I have never seen a file with that name before.

can i put it on a usb stick? How big is the file? You have to understand I cant get into mint.

The program is called UNetbootin.

Google this: dual boot unetbootin file error

Looks like if you chose an incorrect option you get an error like that.

Hi,
Yeah I see repair install keeping files and apps will fix your boot issues if you haven't got a system image to fall back to.
Startup repair might help but still think you'll need win-11 installation media.

MS new install policy is pretty bad for dual booting on the same disk with linux even if you get past the efi/ legacy thing
MS installs a recovery tools partition at the end of disks so this is also where linux installs lol
Install linux and it breaks the windows RE and MS will install another this is where linux gets borked

Best thing you can do if you want to use linux is use VMWare or similar or at least the safest way.

MS's installer has never accepted the existence of any other OS. If a drive isn't formatted FAT32 or NTFS, Windows assumes it's blank!
At least Linux can see other filesystems on a drive.

My usual procedure is:-
  1. Install Windows as normal
  2. Boot from Linux live USB
  3. Use Linux partitioning tool to shrink Windows partition
  4. Format freed space to a Linux-friendly filesystem like EXT4
  5. Install Linux to EXT4 partition (Use "manual" installation method in installer to choose a specific partition)
  6. Set GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false in /etc/default/grub (This allows GRUB to look for and use your Windows partition)
Of course, if you have multiple drives in your PC, you can install Windows & Linux to completely separate drives, and use UEFI to choose between them if GRUB or Windows Boot Manager fails.

Hi,
Never ?
EFI installing started with win-8 so never is misplaced a bit.

Partition placement wise RE is still at the end of C by default and does it after new large builds as well if the original RE is to small.

I agree though 2nd disk would be best besides vmware install for linux.

Hi,
Use shift+f10 after the installer starts
In cmd use type
diskpart
Then use
list disk
Select disk 0 "Should be the only one besides the installer media ?"
Then
list vol
Post an image of the the read out.

Good instructions here to try

I know this does not help OP, but multiple drives really is the only way to go these days. At least if you don't want the hassle with things potentially breaking.

DISKPART> ADD - Add a mirror to a simple volume.

The arguments specified for this command are not valid.
For more information on the command type: HELP ADD

Mirrors the simple volume with focus to the specified disk.

Syntax: ADD DISK=<N> [ALIGN=<N>] [WAIT] [NOERR]

DISK=<N> Specifies a disk, other than the one containing the existing
simple volume, to contain the mirror. You can mirror only
simple volumes. The specified disk must have unallocated space
at least as large as the size of the simple volume you want to
mirror.

ALIGN=<N> Typically used with hardware RAID Logical Unit Number (LUN)
arrays to improve performance. Aligns all volume extents to
the closest alignment boundary. The extent offsets will be
a multiple of <N>.

WAIT Waits for the volume to finish synchronizing with the added
disk before returning. Without the WAIT parameter, DiskPart
returns after the mirrored volume is created and does not wait
for the synchronization to complete.

NOERR For scripting only. When an error is encountered, DiskPart
continues to process commands as if the error did not occur.
Without the NOERR parameter, an error causes DiskPart to exit
with an error code.

A volume must be selected for this operation to succeed.

Fault-tolerant volumes such as RAID-5 and mirrored volumes are not
supported in any edition of Windows Vista.

ADD DISK=2

No luck. Do they still have that program where someone can take over your desktop and fix the problem? What about the free program where someone else can connect to my computer remotely.

Hi,
None that I know of outside of bestbuy/ micro center/.. or some other tech store.

Might contact the computer manufacture for restore steps
They usually have a out of box selection with some comb keys at boot
Poke around bios ?

That stuff would only be possible if they could connect to the system that's dead.
Hell you can't do that in person

Only option I can see is remove the drive and hook it up to a external device
Install another drive and reinstall windows
Then play with the original disk and try and get your files off.
