Pass a legacy to family or support AAA game studios. It's a moral issue that only one person can decide and honestly, family comes first for me.

Technically with Steam I believe you are actually paying for the license to play the game on that platform so you are not paying for the game, you don't own the game, it's a bit like a lifetime rental.... I think.

That's a very good question! I'll probably leave a note with all my account info (including, but not limited to Steam) with the one I trust the most at that moment.

My bigger worry is, will Steam and the rest of these launchers (with all the games I bought on them) last until the day I die? God, I miss physical media!

Not really. Those days are gone. And the more you feel that way, the faster those days go away. If DRM succeeds and malicious licensing works, the future will have more DRM and more malicious licensing.
If you like a game or a developer, the easiest way to ensure that you will never have the opportunity of liking them again, is not not pay them.

I think the same way and personally I don't have a moral issue with my decision regardless of what anyone or the ToS says.
Valve,etc can close down their launchers on me any day w/o giving a damn about it so I wont either, if I decide to share or give away my accounts then thats only on me.

I'm not arguing for malicious licenses and DRM, just saying I understand why they exist. When a user here says that he and his friends all pirated their games, how do you think we got here? Developers and publishers see what works for maximizing profit and ensuring contracts. The ones who are nice, fail. Not because they are too nice, but because their "fans" stab them in the back. Words of kindness don't keep a business operating.

I'm just glad we can still talk about the ability to illegally pass on a game library instead of us all already paying monthly subscriptions instead. But as long as pirating continues, we'll keep heading more and more down that road.

Yeah, but i can give my password to you if i wanted to, dead or alive, there is no EULA that can stop me. Maybe if we were in China where they require photo ID to play games, that could be implemented, but in the EU and USA ?

GOG is the answer and it's doing fine. Give us good games and we buy them, simple as. No DRM will boost sales like a good product.

This question made me think for a second. It is relevant to my situation but my Steam account has a total of 25 games, 26 on GOG. I enjoy games, but tend to play the one I like for a long time - I can quote almost all Fallout texts from memory, as an example. At some point I'll give away my valuable stuff in Eve Online, I have almost two decades worth of really well fitted ships. Other than that, my accounts aren't valuable and I have no one who would want them, so they'll just go into a digital black hole.

-Yep, it's all fun to speculate now, but what about when Steam has been around longer than the natural lifespans of its users?

Part of the reason I insist on playing down my backlog (never completing, just actually launching the games I own and trying to add new games slower than I complete them) is that is the only way my library really has any value.

Otherwise it's all just a bunch of code Valve or some future private equity firm can *yoink* out from under me.
