No it isn't. It's all relevant to case use and it makes sense for a lot of AM4 users.
It's in between a 12900K,13900K in terms of gaming performance and plenty enough for the latest higher end GPUs.

What I mean by its to old is it won its awards in 2022. I'm not saying the processor is trash. It has had its shine. Is 5800X3D gonna be on the best list every here till 2030? Doesn't make any sense dude.

IMO the list lacks consistency, on one hand there's value(how much you get per buck), on the other the best that money can buy, and you keep switching between them

You recommend the 7800X3D for it's great value, then recommend a 700$ motherboard

It shouldn't be limited to 2023 releases either, but just what's best at this time, otherwise you end up recommending weird stuff like the Asus 4090 premium, at double the price of a standard 4090

I agree with others that the 14700K is more deserving than the 14900K for runner up for the additional E-cores this generation, and the 13900K is still available in most regions at a healthy 10-20% discount over the 14900K which is a no-brainer considering they're identical in silicon and the K SKU means that stock clocks are irrelevant for most buyers. Both the 14900K and 14700K are great options though, so the fact they both made the list means that we're just splitting hairs over the order they are placed in.

I'm also not sure a niche 65% non-ANSI custom layout keyboard should be a winner either, even if it's a great keyboard for custom-layout 65% aficionados. IIRC A poll here on TPU showed that TKL (80 or 75%) were the most desirable by a wide margin, and that full-size was in second place with more votes than every single sub-75% size combined - which is why I call them "niche" keyboards (edit - I can't find that 5000+ voter poll, I think it was another forum. The more recent poll of TPU readers I'm thinking of HERE didn't have many votes but still showed a huge 93% preference for TKL or larger). Given that TPU focuses hard on the smaller mechanical keyboards, and this is a list of the best products reviewed by TPU, it's understandable - but TPU doesn't cover the whole keyboard market the way it does with CPUs and GPUs, making the keyboard list irrelevant to a good fraction of readers, the majority of whom need go elsewhere for reviews of TKL keyboards. Just google "most popular keyboard size" and you can see from page after page of results it's full-size or TKL dominant by orders of magnitude no matter what demographic the resulting website caters to. Even sites that cater to building your own mechanical keyboard from parts favour TKL above the other smaller sizes...

Here's hoping 2024 has some cool tech and isn't just a plague of the term "AI" being slapped tenuously on any old shit that didn't sell well in 2023!

In related news... Never install an aio the way these images show it. It's not as bad as a bottom mount or same mount with tubes on bottom but it's not good for the rather cheap yet effective motors in an aio. You're going to wear it out faster and it also won't cool as well because what way does air travel? Up? Yes.

Mount it at the top of your case for the love of sanity. Id also take anything am5 x3d over the Intel 14 series. If it has E cores I'm not really interested but I primarily use my PC for gaming & work goes on the laptop where I'd still prefer AMD but it's not quite as important because performance isn't a massive consideration like it is with my on PC.

Is this nonsense still a thing after all these years? It's perfectly fine the way they are mounted there! If the top of the radiator is higher than the pump, there is no risk of air being trapped in the pump, nothing will happen, all will be fine.
Temperatures are a bit better when the radiator is front mounted and gets fresh air from the room, versus the top mount where it pushes hot air from the case through the radiator.

More like the platform, AM4, is too old. The industry has moved on to AM5 and DDR5, on top of that there's a direct successor, the 7800X3D, which is the chosen one this time around

5800X3D still a good upgrade if the person already has a AM4 based PC and can get it at a good price, it's like saying a 9900K is a good upgrade if has a 9100F

Gotcha, more of an issue with the title I think then.
Since they are including things from outside of it perhaps "Best in 2023" would be more appropriate.

This makes more sense to me anyway, if something isn't quite as new but still a better option etc.
Otherwise yeah, if it's new stuff only different story altogether.

Agreed, since I ended up getting several of these for $217 direct from WD (& also multiple 2TB for $115), thanks to my rapidly accumulating CC points & honey rewards over the past few months....

I don't know why they were not even mentioned in the list, but that is, IMHO, a great disservice to the members here, although I'm fairly sure most of them already know what great drives they are

And dram-less drives are automatically placed on my "NO-BUY" list, regardless of what the review says...

If you discount the political angle, which is the only way for TPU because its a tech site, I kinda get it. If you are consuming, this is top end stuff. I do agree with you though.

If you discount the political angle, you don't put stuff like "a real loss to the consumer that YMTC doesn't have a level playing field in the ICT industry" in your article, do you?

I can confirm the Deathadder was garbage. Razor is not the best brand.

Wouldn't call it e-waste, since realistically speaking it is still a more powerful processor than whatever AMD has on offer and overall, the i9-14900K remains the fastest CPU around a year later... notice that I said a year later because this is simply a rebadged 13900KS without the exquisite binning and scaled back to a standard wattage SKU that they're selling people now. There are zero changes, not even a new stepping, and this "refresh" designation is completely farcical. It's disgusting.

My issue with the 14th gen scam is that Intel is lying to their customers and shareholders by calling these CPUs new products. They are not. This is what should have been publicly called out by the entire media, no matter the amount of backlash from Intel - and why IMHO they are unworthy of being runner-ups or even receiving any praiseworthy mention at this point.

I'm using a DeathAdder Essential right now. It was cheap and feels "comfy". Won't say it's a remarkable mouse like other HyperX Pulsefire Haste I had, but it does the trick for the price (it is the budget version after all). I like the ergonomics, but I'm quickly coming to realize there are no gaming mice that actually work very well for my hands, they're too large.

The only mice I truly found comfortable are some older Microsoft designs... I might have to have a mouse 3D printed, something I can just slap some gliders on and use another mouse's PCB and sensor for tracking

The problem with that is that prices vary, sometimes greatly, from region to region. Remember, TPU is worldwide tech site. So listing prices would be troublesome at best, disingenuous at worst. So it's best to leave them out.

Weird year for hardware. We've had good products, terrible products and pointless products.

Definitely happy with my 4070. The insane efficiency made my gaming experience in the summer much more comfortable. I definitely wouldn't want to buy another card consuming 250+ W.
But I was extremely disappointed with the software side of things this year. Most games were completely unoptimized, some borderline unplayable. I was even forced to play RoboCop in 1080p to get stable 60 FPS, which is ridiculous on a $600 card. I'm really not looking forward to most games using Unreal Engine from now on.

Also very happy with my Lexar NM790. I only use it for games, so the value is exceptional.

And while technically from 2022, I'm also happy with my 13600KF. Huge upgrade coming from a 9700KF, and since I play at 60 Hz, power draw is also very low.


I don't think Zen 5 and Arrow Lake will be very exciting, but I hope we get some great GPUs from all three companies. If NVIDIA wants to keep them expensive, at least make them a lot faster. I'll be disappointed if the 5070 is not at least 50% faster.
With rumors of RDNA4 only having mid-range chips, the competition in that segment could be very interesting, especially if Intel can release Battlemage.
