I mean, sure, the football career may be short, but it doesn't stop them from having a new career afterwards. The pay levels don't relate to their tenure as a footballer, it relates to the vast amounts of money being pumped into the game by sponsors, marketeers, and investment funds. That's it - it's all about the money being made by those at the top and those who gain from PR rights. If it was based on longevity, you'd not see such crazy salary discrepancies as there are across the different leagues. Tax rates excepted, it'd take someone earning 40k/year fifty years to earn the equivalent annual salary as West Bromwich Albions (not even EPL) top paid player (2 million).

For shits'n'giggles, Kevin De Bruyne earns 20 million/yr. That same guy at 40k? It'd take 500 years to earn De Bruyne's annual salary. It's fucking stupid. Man City's annual wage bill for 22 players is 192 million pounds. That's the annual salary of 4,800 people earning 40k. Man City's poorest reserve player (aged 19) earns 25k per week. These are just club wages - not sponsorships on top. Talking about footballer salaries is like drinking alcoholic molten gold.

At the same time they could all crash and burn and have 0 income if they didn't "invest" properly, they could easily become homeless if they just go on a money wasting spree.
It can go 2 ways I guess but yeah as a whole they are getting overpaid and there is no "average" or a "max" capped salary for any profession really since its a "supply and demand" use case, one could argue CEO/directors etc shouldn't be earning triple or even million figures a year as well that could go up and up a year and also bonuses as well.

Its kinda like software engineer in the UK which is very location dependant and experience.
Junior engineer: 19-25k if outside of London, 23-35k if within london
Engineer (more experienced than junior and is involved with meetings with other departments) - 27-45k if outside london, 45k-60k in london
Senior - 55-80k outside London, 60-100k+ for London

If I had those 2 millions, I would retire right in this very moment, at 34. :ohwell:

I still will never accept dancing is a sport. Any olympic event should be a feat of human strength or endurance, and some of these new "sports" are neither of them. It's getting stupid. Next we'll have jenga as an olympic sport.
Well. Synchronized swimming is basically dancing in water and figure skating is dancing on ice? Probably way more physically intense than golf……might be the next summer Olympic sport lol

This is a very good observation, sir.

As for breakdancing. It's more impressive than some dude or dudette spinning in a circle to throw what looks like a construction tool across a football pitch.

There's lots of options. Housing in the UK is one of the most expensive in the world. And I'm an EU citizen, so...

Or I'd just blow it on smokes as you said. Even that's better than listening to corporate blahdy blah 8 hours a day. :D

I don't disagree with you guys, but what still makes dancing a non-sport in my eyes, is that it's not quantifiable, therefore you can't objectively decide who's better at it.

Well the basic definition of "Sport" is just a physical activity or game.
So in a sense, all the examples given in earlier post count as a sport.
But worthy to be in the Olympics is debatable.

The Committee governing the Olympics could get a little creative with this one. The clues in the name "Break Dance". First one to break a leg wins

Not an UK resident, but i have football jersey from Scotland and England, could it work ? :D

Just a reminder about breaking at the olympics, the guide from A to Z :
here !
Scroll a bit and they explain how it will be judged, the moves etc ...

I've heard, but not really sure, that Breaking will be a one shot, and should disapear for the next Olympics ...

To me, Olympics should have stood with basic sports : measure the faster, higher and longer jumper people on earth :)

you think the greeks at the first olympics would have allowed dancing

Contemporary to the ancient games at Olympia, the Athenians ran an event every four years in honour of Athena, called The Greater Panathenaia. It expanded on the events in honour of Zeus (held at Olympia), and included:

traditional athletic, musical, and equestrian competitions, such as the horse race depicted on this prize amphora. However, it also entailed an eclectic program of more unusual events, including contests in male beauty, dancing in armor, a chariot-mounting and dismounting race (while the chariot was in motion!), and torch- and boat-races.

So while not part of the very limited events at Olympia (all male, often naked), the Athenian event reflected the same culture and did include dancing and much more. Again, it was all male. And probably naked. The ancient Greeks very much supported dancing as a competitive event.

I studied classical civilisations at Uni for a year, and did two years of archaeology, so these conversations always pique my interest.

Dancing in armor
Sounds tiring and noisy. ;)

We went to pick up the missus's new glasses yesterday. I parked in the town centre for maybe an hour, but it was enough for somebody to leave a small scratch on my car and then try to smear it with dirt with his/her fingers. And people wonder why I never go anywhere unless I absolutely have to. :shadedshu:

Anyway, the car has other chips and dings that need fixing, so... :( Does anybody have any experience with ChipsAway? Are they good?

I have used them a couple of times in the past but not for about 8 years, they were very good and at the time pretty reasonable although I have no idea about their rates today, so like most companies they are likely double what I paid which i can't remember anyway :) but the work was immaculate, however that may vary from one individual to another.
