Unsupported GPU for Resizable Bar

Can anyone help me dicipher what this means?

I'm considering using an External GPU on my laptop that requires Re-Bar to work properly. Below is the report GPU-Z generates.

It's saying the current (internal) GPU is unsupported, which is fine, but what I want to know, is if I buy and attach an external GPU, do I have all of the other requirements for Re-BAR to work? Basically, I don't want to buy a new card, attach it, then have "Unsupported GPU" simply become "No".

Any help here would be appreciated.

Do you have the rebar/SAM option in your bios? Other than that a rtx3/4 series, Rx 5/6/7000 series and Intel arc should all support resizeable bar

The GPU chip does not support it, any enclosure won't change that.

The way I understand OP is that his current internal 2060 does not support rebar as shown in the screenshot. But their question is: would a different GPU (presumably an intel arc card) connected in an external dock work with this laptop and be able to use reBar.
Imo it should work UNLESS external GPUs cannot use reBAR at all for some reason?

I know the 2060 doesn't hence I said as long as he has the option to enable it in the bios and one of the cards I listed it should effectively work.

I see. I believe it works on external GPUs as well, as long as the system meets all other requirements.

Thanks for all the answers so far. So this is the core of my problem. I can't tell if it meets the other requirements.

There is no option for Re-BAr in the bios, but I don't know if that's simply because the internal graphics cards could never support it, so the option doesn't appear.

Yes, exactly this. Thanks for jumping in.

I'm trying to get an idea on whether an Intel Arc might be a cost effective upgrade (as I picked up an eGPU enclosure for cheap).

I'm trying to work out if the GPU-Z report indicates that Re-Bar will work.

To add - there's presently no Re-Bar option in BIOS - is it possible it won't appear until a supported GPU is plugged in? Or maybe it's enabled by default with no option to turn it off?

Ooooh I misread this part. Based on these readings I would say it's highly likely that ReBar will activate itself once you install a supported GPU.

Do you see the "Above 4G Decode" option in BIOS? ReBar should be on the same page

Unfortunately, the bios on HP Omen's is extremely basic - the below is my model of laptop and shows pretty much the same options I have - no sight of "Above 4G Decode" or Re-Bar in any of the menus I have access to:

My hope was GPU-Z would uncover whether the option is turned on.

Above 4G Decode is turned on. No way to know about Resizable BAR until you install a compatible card

Gotchya. I guess I better make sure whereever I buy the card from has a good returns policy then!

Thanks for answering.

Yep. I'm sure there are options. Strange that it's so difficult to work out whether a feature is supported - nuts really!

Since Intel started updating the drivers, the Arc graphics cards are looking like tremendous value cards, but they only work well with Re-Bar enabled apparently.

To be honest, if I can't be certain that Re-Bar is an option, I'll go with something like an rtx 3060.

because it's a feature that doesn't bring you many benefits, unless you're using a ARC gpu. It doesn't sell.

edit: oh ok. You are considering a ARC gpu. But if you buy a ARC gpu it will support resizable bar. You will need a supported CPU.

Agreed. That's what I'm trying to work out, but the bios on my laptop doesn't actually say if it's supprted or not. Looks like it will be a gamble whether an arc would actually work or not.

If that is the case, then you could go to a computer repair shop and ask them that you want to verify that?

Just asked them, it can't hurt, but I suspect I'll get the run-around as a hapless customer services person tries to work out what a BIOS is, let alone Resizable Bar

I'll report back if I hear anything useful

I don't know how HP works, but is there a BIOS update page and the features it supports or something like that?
You can look the latest BIOS version and look the reference on google what it supports and if it supports RB
