To note that it's from an Honk Kong based company so...well...it's more or less a chinese company...I have no issue about that myself but I've read there is a major part of America which cannot bear chinese stuff xD (fun stuff by the way because nearly everything is made from China but it's another topic).

My concern with these AI enabled PC's is if they will be used to override, control, or report end user behavior at a significantly more intrusive level. Your PC is not your PC anymore but just an automated agent enforcing global corporate policy. Kind of like that busybody HOA neighbor that sniches on you for not fixing your outdoor hose spigot in the designated 24hr time period. Imagine DRM on steroids' for movies , music , and games - oops your not allowed to view that please insert credit card in 3..2..1 or even worse your subject to information superhighway toll fees.

On an extreme scale for example oops your blocked from this or that because a certain country had decided your ethic origin entitles you to their control. Kind of like when you switch your iPhone to a certain language that qualifies you for your data to be shunted over and to be managed by that countries servers so they can determine your social credit score.

Sorry I'm a bit pessimistic today. Not feeling like competitive windows alternatives are ever going to come to fruition. (I forgot for a moment Apple is a thing)

Making a new OS isn’t that much of an issue. Many have tried and succeeded. The problem is adoption, driver and API layer, software ecosystem and ease of everyday use for laymen. And this was a stumbling block for everyone, so far. So I have absolutely no faith in anything really significant materializing out of this.
Windows has been an essentially sole mainstream desktop OS (MacOS not included since it is its own can of worms) for so long that challenging it seems nigh on impossible.

Most popular distros nowadays require little to no maintenance on user part, to be honest. Nothing really wrong with, say, Mint if you just want a PC for daily tasks. The problem is, as always, that if you want anything more you find yourself with software support… lacking. Gaming is getting there, but if you need, say, Adobe’s suit? Good luck. And no, I don’t consider running your needed software under Wine to be a sane replacement.

If you think linux is bad, wait until you see whatever this is.

The issue with making an OS these days is not the OS itself, its drivers for everything. Which this will have nearly nothing for, and be a setup nightmare, as such.

It wouldn't even surprise me if they are basing this on linux to avoid that issue... lol.

No for-profit company is your buddy. If you want total control over your OS you go Linux, preferably building what you want yourself instead of using the preexisting distro. But then we run into the whole “I don’t want to maintain my OS” thing. History shows us that the only way for an OS to get popular and user friendly is for it to be maintained by a corporation. Yes, even with Linux seeing how popular enterprise distros are very much payed.

Competes? Absolutely. Knocks out? No way. That would be bad!

Competition is good for everyone - especially us consumers. Think what would happen if AMD finally took Intel out of the game. AMD would essentially have no competition. They would have no reason to invest in innovations. They would have no reason to keep prices competitive.

We need AMD to keep nipping at the heels of Intel and for Intel to keep looking over their shoulders.

History has shown us over and over again that monopolies are never good for consumers - even those highly regulation (like utility companies).

That is exactly what Microsoft should do - that is, they need to keep watch of any potentially competing product. Just as Intel should do with AMD and AMD with Intel. Ford with GM. Android with Apple. NASA with Roscosmos and CNSA.

Not the important parts such as memory subsystem, scheduler and as mentioned here, all the drivers and their own subsystems.

Just go through the wifi "driver" for a modern wifi chip in Linux' source code. It is a huge multi-layered framework. All made up of plain C code with no AI in sight.
