Went looking and couldn't find a Club thread for X299(WTH?!?!?). X58, X79 and X99 all have Club threads, so no time like the present for X299! This thread was created for everyone to join in discussion about anything X299 in general. I'll go first!!

My Gigabyte X299 board died(a few months ago) so I had to decide if I wanted to go with Threadripper or get another X299 board. Betting you all can guess the choice..

An ASUS WS X299Pro

Wanted to go with AsRock, but couldn't find a board model with 22110 NVMe slots(my SSD's are 22110 models), so I "settled" for this ASUS model.

Testing revealed that the Gigabyte board took the CPU & RAM with it. This is something I did not know when I bought this new board. I might have gone Threadripper otherwise, but oh well. Everything else seems to be fine(tested in a separate system). So a new CPU and RAM kit is also on the way. Will update when they arrive.

That's a huge bummer. Wish your budget hasn't gone extinct after that.

X299 is still not bad, I'd love to own a piece of that for experiments but... realistically can't afford that as of now. Enjoy your new system!

It didn't. Went with another X299 board thinking I could keep using the existing CPU and RAM... The alternative was a Threadripper CPU, board & RAM and I didn't want to spend $1600+.

realistically can't afford that as of now.

Really wasn't that expensive. $190 for the board, $180 for the CPU and $90 for the RAM. I made out ok. Sub $500 for used X299 is better than $1600+ for used Threadripper or $2600+ for new.

Russian salaries are not on par with American ones and on top of that, I don't have a real job now. Yeah, I make dough but not enough to justify a $500 YOLO purchase.

Nice to see someone else talking about x299 still. I have been rocking my setup for over 6 years now. Last upgraded my cpu couple years ago to 10900x, gpu to 3080ti. I’m not cutting edge but definitely not bottom of the barrel.

I stole the ocool d5 pump/ reservoir out of it a few weeks ago to put in my z490 rig.

Thought about making a heatware acc and parting it out actually. system spec's.

Nice! 9940X is a very good CPU and still relevant today. The one I've got on the way is a 7820X. The one before it was a 10920X, but wasn't at all overclockable and would not run any RAM I gave it at anything other than JEDEC specs(2933mhz). I did some reading and the 7820X is generally a very OC-friendly CPU. We'll see though. Bought the 7820X as a stop gap to play with until I can find a good deal on another 10920X. Or maybe I'll just settle on a 10900X and call it good for a few more years.

I didn't see any gains past 4.8 with 4000MHz on memory with my 9940x and it was kicking some people running 5.0 on ocn

X299 apex is a good board I picked it up off ebay for like 100.us since it had one bad pin on it with the seller discount so I kept it
I put it threw hell to

I killed so may tuf & prime delux x299 boards
Only issue with it is I tossed the stock vrm cooler so it's stuck with water block there.

I don't think we have clubs for the older 775 and before all that along with Socket A and 740/939/940/AM3/AM4/AM5 do we?? I digress

I have a EVGA X299 Kingpin with a 7980XE that I'd like to get built up... I've got some RAM in it currently but some is due from my mate in the US at some point, so when that comes over, maybe I can get that rig built It would have been nice to have the 10980XE but they seemed quite expensive, so I'll wait and see
Thinking about it, I think I have another X299 up in the loft with the other Asus boards I have... Rampage Apex it might be?? I think it came with a water block that covers the VRMs too as well as the CPU... I'll see if I can find a pic......

Man those Threadripper CPUs are huge.....



I saw a Threadripper system go for something like £1200 the other day, fully loaded and built, I thought it wasn't a bad buy. The 3 series CPUs are a little cheaper but they do seem to be holding their cash well as far as hardware goes I enjoy both of mine
And here we have a few of the X299 Dark Had this one for a while before I could get it unwrapped....



I'll have to find some more time to get the other Intel setups I've got to build done, never enough space, time or time to finish it all

My MSI X299 Pro Carbon died on me last year and I couldn't find a reasonable replacement (price-wise) so I posted on the B/S/T thread hoping someone might have one stashed in their storage. A great soul (or should I say Sol, lol) came forward and offered their MSI X299 Tomahawk free of charge and all I have to do is pay shipping. Being that he is roughly 40 miles away from me (at the time) I could not pass it up and now here she is doing some work for TPU

x299 before I put it storage and stole it's pump/ res combo

Wait, it still works? Are you down a RAM slot? A lot of those pins are for memory interconnects.

I had a socket 1366 board than had a similar issue. It was down a RAM slot but with 8GB DIMMs, 24GB in the working slots was still possible.

4 slot board all work 4x8gb 3600c16
I can do more than 4k but the performance isn't worth the extra dimm voltage
Both dimm_2 m.2 slots work to.

None that I've ever noticed.
It's been this way since I got it years ago off ebay.
