A-Data Announces HM Series High Efficiency PSUs

ADATA Technology Co., Ltd., a worldwide leader in high performance memory and flash products, has announced the launch of the HM Series power supply for personal computers. The HM Series has a PF (Power Factor) of 0.9 up and energy efficiency up to 82%, and is designed for the gamer, high-performance, and overclocker markets.

Available in a range of wattages (550, 650, 750, 850 and 1,200 watts), the HM Series delivers reliability and protection for all types of hardware configurations. In particular, the units are equipped with an intelligent dual ball bearing LED fan with a tri-color output power display. The power consumption status is indicated by the color of the display (green for low load; blue for normal load; red for full load). The HM Series is constructed with all Japan-made capacitors for voltage regulation, filtering, and buffering functions, resulting in long-term power output stability, with MTBF (Mean time between failures) of over 100,000 hours. Be Quiet! Introduces New Straight Power and Dark Power Series PSUs

Be Quiet! (brand name) announced a major expansion of its power supply lineup, with two new product lines: the 80 Plus Silver certified Straight Power E8 series, and 80 Plus Gold certified Dark Power Pro P9 series. The Straight Power E8 series includes 400W, 450W, 500W, 550W, 600W, and 700W models that have completely fixed cabling, and 480W, 580W and 680W models with modular cabling. The Dark Power Pro P9 series, on the other hand, includes 550W, 650W, 750W, 850W, 1000W and 1200W models, all of which have modular cabling.

The Straight Power E8 series models are ATX V2.3 and EPS 12V V2.92 compliant, use a more compact chassis, and are cooled by a 120 mm Silent Wings fan, and use four 12V rail design (with the exception of the 400W model that has a three rail design), prices for this series start at €69.90, and go all the way up to €149.90. The Dark Power Pro P9 uses a slightly longer chassis, also cooled by a 120 mm fan, it uses highly durable capacitors, and a four 12V rail design. These are priced between €149.90 and €269.90.

Scythe Chouriki 2 650W PSU Models Sold Only as 80 PLUS Silver Certified

Scythe officially announced that the Chouriki 2 650 Watt Power Supply Units is being sold only as 80PLUS Silver, although it was announced as 80PLUS Gold rated. After verifying a dozen more of the production samples, the efficiency rate was not sufficient enough for Scythe standards which lead to repealing of the earlier statement and offering it as 80PLUS Silver like the other models of the Chouriki 2 PSU Series.

Effective immediately, all Chouriki 2 650 Watt PSU are sold as 80PLUS Silver Models. Although the official 80PLUS website is listing the 650W model as Gold certified, Scythe is kindly asking to consider the PSU being a Silver certified model due to scattering in production. Club 3D Rolls Out its First PSU Lineup

Club 3D, known more for its graphics cards, rolled out its first lineup of PSUs, ranged from a 400W entry level non-modular model to a 1000W high-end modular one, with 600W non-modular, 700W and 850W modular models along the way. The 1000W CSP-X1000CB, to begin with, uses a 4-rail +12V circuit with 38A per rail, it boasts of 80 Plus Bronze efficiency rating. Connectors include (apart from the 24-pin ATX and 4+4-pin EPS(CPU)): two fixed + four modular PCI-E 6+2 pin; one modular 4+4-pin EPS(CPU); three fixed + six modular SATA power; two fixed + five modular Molex; one fixed + one modular Floppy. This PSU has a blue colored 120 mm temperature-controlled fan. Next is the 850W CSP-D850CB, this 80 Plus Bronze certified PSU also uses a four-rail +12V design, but with 34A rails. Connectors are the same the 1000W model, except for: two fixed + two modular PCI-E 6+2 pin. This one, along with the 750W model has a green-colored fan.

Speaking of the 750W CSP-D700CB, this 80 Plus Bronze certified model uses a four-rail +12V circuit with 32A rails. Its connector configuration is different from the 850W model: apart from the 24-pin ATX and 4+4-pin EPS(CPU), only three SATA connectors are fixed. Rest are modular, which include: six SATA power; two PCI-E 6+2 pin; two PCI-E 6 pin; five Molex; one 4+4 pin EPS(CPU); and a Floppy power. Next up, are the totally non-modular value models. The 600W CSP-S600 sports two PCI-E 6+2 pin; six SATA; five Molex; and one Floppy; while the cheapest 400W CSP-S400 gives you just one PCI-E 6+2 pin; four SATA; 3 Molex. The 600W and 400W models are just 80 Plus rated, and feature a yellow-colored fan. Club 3D did not give out any pricing details.

PowerColor Expands its Product Lineup into Power Supply Units

Corsair Announces Retail Availability of Professional Series Gold Power Supplies

Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced the general retail availability of the Professional Series Gold AX1200, AX850, and AX750 power supply units. These PSUs, which feature 80 PLUS GOLD certification, were announced and shown at Computex in Taipei, and have won numerous accolades since then.

"The response of early users and reviewers to the Professional Series Gold PSUs has been phenomenal," stated Ruben Mookerjee, VP and General Manager of Components at Corsair. "We have been working overtime to meet the demand for this ultra-efficient, fully modular PSU, and are thrilled to announce that these highly anticipated products are now widely available from Corsair's retailers."

Enermax Intros Revolution85+ 920W SLI and 1020W SLI PSUs

Enermax expanded its Revolution85+ power supply series lineup with new 920W SLI and 1020W SLI variants. These PSUs feature modular cabling, and bear the 80 Plus Silver efficiency rating along with NVIDIA SLI-Ready certification. What sets the 1020W SLI apart from the older 1050W SLI or the 1050W CrossFireX is the redesigned 12V DC circuitry. The 1020W SLI uses four 35A rails compared to five 30A rails on the 1050W SLI/CrossFireX variants, which increases efficiency, and power-delivery per rail to cope with multiple high-end NVIDIA GeForce GTX 400 series graphics cards in SLI.

Cables included besides the ATX 24-pin, and 8-pin CPU are: another 4+4-pin CPU power connector (ideal for dual-socket motherboards), two fixed 6+2-pin PCIe power along with four detachable 6+2 pin PCIe power cables, 12 SATA power, 6 Molex, and 1 FDD. Also featured are Active PFC, "SafeGuard" (an umbrella term for OCP, OVP, AC UVP, DC UVP, OPP, OTP, SCP, and SIP power conditioning features), HeatGuard (that cools down the PSU even after shutdown), guaranteed 24/7 @ 50 degrees Celsius uptime, and Silent Ready (temperature-based fan acoustic management). The PSUs are cooled by a 139 mm twister-bearing (long-life) fan. The new Revolution85+ 920W SLI is expected to be priced around the 200 EUR mark, with the 1020W SLI going for around 235 EUR.

New FSP Group PSU First to Score 80 Plus Platinum Certification

FSP Group, a frontline consumer brand run by industrial and OEM power supply maker Fortron has become the first with a consumer ATX PSU that's 80 Plus Platinum certified. 80 Plus Platinum is a higher efficiency rating than the original three (Bronze, Silver, Gold) ratings. The FSP450-60PTM from FSP Group maintains an efficiency of 90.79% at 20% load, 93.13% at 50% load, and 91.89% at 100% load, crossing the 80 Plus Platinum certification requirements of ≥90% @ 20% load, ≥92% @ 50% load, and ≥89% @ 100% load. The FSP Group FSP450-60PTM is a 450W non-modular PSU.

EVGA Releases Classified SR-2 Power Supply to the Market

EVGA, in its pursuit to deliver only the best quality and performance, is at it again with the EVGA Classified SR-2 Power Supply. Gigabyte Intros Power Rock Series Value PSUs

Gigabyte unveiled a series of value power supply units under the Power Rock brand, which it showed off at this year's Computex event. These are available in 300W, 350W, 400W, and 500W variants. Being ATX +12V v2.2 compliant, these have two +12V rails and are actively cooled. The units measure 150 x 140 x 86 mm. Of these, only the 400W and 500W variants feature active PFC and 80 Plus certification. Gigabyte did not give out a pricing scheme though one can expect them to be very cheap.

Enermax Readies New Modu87+ 800W and 900W PSU Models

Enermax is expanding its Modu87+ power supply (PSU) series with new 800W and 900W models. As the name suggests, Modu87+ PSUs feature modular cabling, and have over 87% efficiency at any given load. The 800W model will be released first, followed by the 900W model at a slightly later date. Both models boast of DHT (Dynamic Hybrid Transformer) technology, an array of solid-state (conductive-polymer) capacitors paired with Japanese electrolytic capacitors, dubbed "Hybrid Capacitor Array", which contribute to rated efficiency up to 92%, which stays over 87% at any load, earning it the coveted 80 Plus Gold rating.

Both models use four independent +12V rails, and are cooled by a 140 mm twister-bearing fan that keeps up with the "gold" theme. Cable modularity covers the 6 PCI-Express power cables, and a number of SATA power, 4-pin Molex, and 4-pin Floppy connectors, with the 24-pin ATX and CPU-power connector being sleeved and fixed. The Enermax Modu87+ 800W PSU will be priced at 174€, and backed by a 5-year warranty. The pricing of the 900W model will be known later.

Chieftec Intros Nitro Series PSUs

Chieftec introduced Nitro series of 80 Plus Bronze and Silver compliant power supply units (PSUs), available in a wide range of price points. The series starts with 350W, 400W, 450W, and 500W models that have fixed, sleeved cables, are 80 Plus Bronze compliant, and are suitable for entry level gaming PCs. These offer basic power connectors which includes single 6-pin PCI-E, four SATA, three Molex, one floppy, and 24 + 4-pin CPU. These units are cooled by a 120 mm fan.

Moving further into the series are 550W, 650W, 750W, 850W, and 950W models that offer modular cabling, and also sport 80 Plus Bronze compliance, and are aimed for mainstream-thru-performance segments of gaming PCs, with more connectors, including two PCI-E 6+2 pin connectors (for 550W, 650W models), or four 6+2 pin (for 750W, 850W, 950W models); six~eight SATA, four Molex, and 24 + two 8-pin CPU power. These are cooled by 140 mm fans. At the very top is the 1200W model, which boasts of even higher efficiency with is 80 Plus Silver compliance, and modular cabling. Connectors include 6x PCI-E 6+2 pin, 10x SATA, 8x Molex, and 24 + 2x 8 pin CPU power.

SilverStone Rolls Out SFX Form Factor 450W PSU

SilverStone rolled out its newest power supply for small form factor (SFF) cases, the ST45SF SFX Form Factor PSU. This PSU in its limited form measuring 125 mm (W) × 63.5 mm(H) × 100 mm(D), can give out 450W of continuous power. It has a single +12V rail design, with a single 36A rail. It boasts of 80 Plus Bronze certification, it has an efficiency of 82% to 85%. It offers most standard power connectors, including 24-pin ATX, 8-pin EPS (CPU power), one 6+2 pin PCI-Express, one 6-pin PCI-Express, three SATA power, two Molex and one Floppy power. It packs active PFC, over/under-voltage/current protection. The unit is cooled by an 80 mm fan, that has a minimum noise output rated at 18 dBA. The PSU supports SFX form-factor cases out of the box, but also includes an SFX to ATX bracket that lets you use it in ATX/M-ATX cases. It is priced around 60 EUR.

Xilence Readies XQ 1200W 80 Plus Gold Certified PSU

In the era of the power-guzzling GeForce GTX 480, >1000W PSUs don't seem overkill anymore, especially if 2-way or 3-way SLI setups are planned with them. Xilence is readying a new high-end PSU in its XQ line. The XQ 1200W packs four +12V rails, it offers a very high efficiency of 92%, qualifying for the 80 Plus Gold rating. It is cooled by a 135 mm PWM fan, and packs several safe power features such as over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage and short circuit protection. Available a little later this month, the XQ 1200W will sell for 249 EUR.

SilverStone Introduces Strider Essential Series PSUs

SilverStone introduced two entry-level PSUs under its Strider Essential series, the 400W ST40F-ES and 500W ST50F-ES. The two are feature fixed (non-modular) cabling, ATX 2.3 compliance, and 80 Plus certification. Under the hood is a single +12V rail design with active PFC. The unit is cooled by a 120 mm fan with a noise output of 18 dBA. Connectors apart from the 24-pin ATX and 4+4 pin CPU power connectors include two 6-pin PCI-E (for the 400W model), one 6-pin and 6+2 pin PCI-E connectors (for the 500W model), four SATA, three Molex, and one Floppy. The ST40F-ES and ST50F-ES are priced at US $49.99 and $59.99, respectively.

NesteQ Intros E2CS X-Strike PSUs

NesteQ is ready with a new high-end modular power supply, the E2CS X-Strike. Part of a series, variants include 400W, 500W, 600W, 750W, 850W, and 1000W. These PSUs feature energy efficiency ratings of up to 92%, whihch makes them 80 Plus Gold certified. The +12V circuit features as many as six rails, with a unique Power Monitoring Panel feature that provides diagnostic LED readouts for each +12V rail, and the +5V, and +3.3V circuits. Another unique feature is with its connectors, the Enhanced Easy Connecting System provides modularity to even the cables which connect to the PSU, so only the connectors that are really needed could be put in place. Further, users can chain those cables to make a single, long cable, helping in cable management in certain cases. Output diagram and connectors' list specific to the variant are provided below.

Gigabyte Readies Odin Plus Series PSUs

Gigabyte is adding to its small but growing lineup of power supply units with the new Odin Plus series mid-range PSUs. The company is planning three models in this series alongside more in the Odin GT and Odin Pro series to be detailed later. The three Odin Plus models include 500W, 600W, and 700W. These PSUs feature Japan-made solid-state capacitors, 6+2 pin PCI-Express power connectors, and a multi-rail +12V circuits. While the 500W and 600W models feature three +12V rails, the 700W one comes with four.

The PSUs comply with ATX 2.3 standards, along with compliance for RoHS and WEEE specifications. Its efficiency makes it eligible for the 80 Plus Bronze rating. Power connectors include 24-pin ATX, 4+4 pin CPU power, two 6+2 pin PCI-Express power, four Molex (three on the 500W model), one and six SATA power (four on the 500W model). The Gigabyte Odin Plus series PSUs are expected to retail soon, priced between 110 and 140 EUR.
