Alphacool Announces Water Cooling Solutions for Server Racks

As hardware gets increasingly more powerful it generates more and more waste heat. This can lead to thermal problems, especially with server racks that have the hardware packed so close together. Compact air coolers are hardly able to dissipate the excess heat from processors. It becomes even more problematic when one or more graphics cards also need to be cooled. At full load processors and graphics cards struggle with temperatures and can quickly start to throttle down their clock rates early due to thermal throttling.

Many server operators want simple and cost-effective solutions to solve this problem. Therefore, Alphacool has developed and launched a whole range of water cooling sets for 1 to 4U server racks in cooperation with its Enterprise Solutions customers. All sets can also be individually extended or adapted. Quick-release fasteners, additional pumps, radiator, and graphics card coolers can be added by arrangement and the components can be adapted to individual requirements. The sets are delivered to the customers pre-filled.

Thermaltake and Mayhems Fighting Over "Pastel" Trademark in the UK

This is still a developing story, however it has matured enough to where we feel confident about discussing it. It kicked off last week when the proprietor of Mayhem Solutions Ltd, better known simply as Mayhems, shared information regarding Thermaltake introducing their own Pastel-branded coolants to be used in the PC DIY water cooling sector. Mayhems has had a trademark registered for this in the UK since 2015, and let Thermaltake know via email to try to reach an amenable solution. Indeed, EKWB and Alphacool had both used the Pastel trademark with Mayhems' permission in the past, some of which also came via using the Mayhems Pastel base under their respective brand names. After word from Thermaltake's legal team, first trying to defend the use of Pastel as a generic term, and then saying that they would work on a compromise, Mayhems told us they have not heard back from the company in over a week since the last correspondence, and are forced to take legal action to prevent Thermaltake P1000 pastel coolants to be sold in the UK.

We wanted to have due diligence in our reporting, and contacted Thermaltake ourselves for a statement. After receiving word that they will send us one, we too have not heard back from the company since. We respect Thermaltake's decision, and are always willing to update this post if they do send us one, but in the meantime we went further. Indeed, a careful look at the trademark (screenshots seen below) confirms Mayhem's legal stance on this matter. However, it is not easy to enforce a trademark in the court. It would be all the more harder to do so when there can be an argument made about the use of the term pastel, which no doubt Thermaltake would argue is not necessarily tied to the coolant, but more as the general term to showcase the various colors and the opaque-nature of said coolants. More on this story past the break, including quotes from retailers we spoke to.

Alphacool Shows Off All New Eisball Pump/Reservoir Combo

Alphacool showed off an entirely new pump/reservoir combo at CES 2019, which they dubbed the Eisball. Just a quick look at this thing will tell you it is like nothing else you have seen before. Paired with their VP755 V3 pump which was recently updated, means not only is it entirely new from the ground up, it also has a truly unique appearance. Of course no product is complete without RGB LEDs, and the Eisball is no exception with the metal ring located on the outside hiding them from prying eyes while delivering bright illumination that will have no problems being visible in any case with a window.

All cabling for the LEDs and pump are thankfully sleeved in black which which is nice since no one likes mustard and ketchup cabling. There are four ports located on the unit two of which are on the front bottom and are clearly marked inlet and outlet, while another port is located on the opposite side. The last port is in the obvious location which is up top. In general, the Eisball is a unique pump/reservoir combo that will likely garner more than a few looks at CES this year. That said, all I can see when I look at it is R2D2 maybe I am just crazy? Let me know in the comments.

The quick release fittings provided for expansion with Eisbaer ready products have also seen improvements in terms of appearance. They now come in all black and are smooth, compared to more angular red and blue color coded versions seen on the Eisbaer LT. The matte black tubing features a high kink resistance, while the rest of the fittings are of course industry standard G1/4".

Cooling of the CPU is handled by Alphacool's Eisblock XPX which is the same here as what they sell directly for those building custom loops. Too keep coolant flowing Alphacool has paired the Eisbaer Extreme with their latest VPP755 pump which supports PWM functionality. In order to keep the entire unit looking clean Alphacool has encased it in an all aluminum housing that encloses and protects the radiator, fans, pump, and reservoir. Alphacool Announces New Mining Products

The world-renowned company, Alphacool, now offers special mining solutions for industry and end customer use. In addition to mining the well-known crypto currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, systems very similar are also increasingly being used in research, development and other areas. These systems generate a lot of heat due to the mass of components used in enclosed spaces. Now, Alphacool has met the demands from the industry and has created cost-effective water cooling solutions and systems. Starting with cases for e.g. server racks and full cover graphic card coolers up to complete mining systems including hardware and preinstalled software.

The products are all cost effective, particularly the graphics card coolers! Extremely low prices are possible which can compete, or even beat the prices of air cooling, without compromising on quality. For even more reliability, there are graphics card coolers with include an integrated pump. Since there are usually several GPUs in a circuit, if one pump does fail, the other pumps can easily keep the liquid flowing ensuring that the system stays cool.
