Colorful Intros H81A-BTC V20 Motherboard for Cryptocurrency Mining

Quite a few motherboard manufacturers are designing boards for crypto-currency mining rigs. The idea behind these boards is to serve up as many PCI-Express add-on card slots as possible, so miners can wire those slots out through risers, and drive way more than 7 GPU/ASIC cards. This makes for a better investment than building additional machines for more than 7 cards. Crypto-currency mining isn't bandwidth-heavy, and so even PCI-Express x1 provides sufficient connectivity for mining cards. The H81A-BTC V20 from Colorful is a socket LGA1150 motherboard, which takes in old "Haswell" and "Broadwell" CPUs, a pair of DDR3 memory modules, and puts out seven PCI-Express slots, of which one is x16, and the rest x1. The board draws power from 6-pin PCIe and 4-pin Molex, besides 8-pin EPS and 24-pin ATX, to cope with add-on cards that don't have their own power sources.

NVIDIA "Pascal" Based Mining GPU Lineup Detailed

GPU-accelerated crypto-currency mining poses a threat to the consumer graphics industry, yet the revenues it brings to GPU manufacturers are hard to turn away. The more graphics cards are bought up by crypto-currency miners, the fewer there are left for gamers and the actual target-audience of graphics cards. This is particularly bad for AMD, as fewer gamers have Radeon graphics cards as opposed to miners; which means game developers no longer see AMD GPU market-share as an amorphous trigger to allocate developer resources in optimizing their games to AMD architectures.

To combat this, both AMD and NVIDIA are innovating graphics cards designed specifically for crypto-currency mining. These cards are built to a cost, lack display outputs, and have electrical and cooling mechanisms designed for 24/7 operation, even if not living up to the durability standards of real enterprise-segment graphics cards, such as Radeon Pro series or Quadro. NVIDIA's "Pascal" GPU architecture is inherently weaker than AMD's "Polaris" and older Graphics CoreNext architectures at Ethereum mining, owing in part to Pascal's lack of industry-standard asynchronous compute. This didn't deter NVIDIA from innovating a lineup of crypto-mining SKUs based on its existing "Pascal" GPUs. These include the NVIDIA P104 series based on the "GP104" silicon (on which the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are based); and P106 series based on the "GP106" silicon (GTX 1060 series is based on this chip). NVIDIA didn't tap into its larger "GP102" or smaller "GP107" chips, yet.

Colorful Showcases Two GTX 1080 Ti Graphics Cards

At Computex 2017, Colorful showcased another two graphics cards based on NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics. First up, we have the iGame GTX 1080 Ti Kudan, a black and gold, triple-fan, triple-slot graphics card, and it would appear it also includes fittings for a watercooling solution. The golden gears and clockwork-reminiscent design may seem a little gaudy, but I actually like it, in a steampunk kind of way. The card features a status monitor (probably to show temperature and clock states), features a 16+2 phases power design, and colorful is boasting of tantalum capacitors. Its stock clock is at 1480 MHz base, while the memory speed seems to remain at stock. The card features a one-key overclock function, though how big an overclock this enables currently stands as "TBD". Connectors-wise, the card comes with 2x DisplayPort, 2x HDMI, and 1x DVI-D.

Colorful Unveils the Menacing iGame X299-X

This card combines the same enthusiast-segment PCB featured on the iGame GTX 1080 Ti Vulcan X OC, with a factory-fitted all in one closed-loop liquid-cooling solution. The pump-block portion of it features a large base-plate in addition to the pump-block over the GPU, which conveys heat from the memory and VRM to the block. The card is then plumbed to a large 240 mm x 120 mm radiator with a pair of 120 mm fans. Out of the box, the card features reference clocks; but a secondary BIOS activated at the push of a button runs the card at an "insanely high" overclock. For now Colorful is keeping this clock profile a secret.

Colorful iGame GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is a Graphics Card with a Display on it

Colorful made its mark on the industry with some of the most over-the-top designs, such as giving enthusiast-segment cooling on upper-mid range SKUs. With the iGame GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, Colorful allowed its engineers to run amok with ideas. Just as other graphics card designers are beginning to add RGB LED lighting elements to the glowing company logos on the cooler shrouds, colorful went ahead and attached a multi-segment display directly on the graphics card, which reads out temperatures, clock speeds, and fan-speeds in real-time. Something like this came in cumbersome detachable external OC modules. The 3-slot thick graphics card features the heaviest air-cooling solution Colorful ever made, mated to a custom-design PCB with a gargantuan 18-phase VRM that draws power from a pair of 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The card is expected to come out some time in April.

Colorful Unveils the iGame GTX 1080 KUDAN

In what is surely the biggest GTX 1080 announcement this year (pun intended), Colorful, at their Colorful CGU (Colorful Games Union) event, has taken the lids of their KUDAN version of the GTX 1080 - a monstrous, 4-slot graphics card sure to vie for most of your rig's interior space. A hybrid design is used to keep the Pascal graphics processor cooled - it actually features a triple-slot, triple-fan over an aluminum heatsink array on top of the GPU and circuitry, as well as a water cooling-powered backplate, that can be used in conjunction with the card's own air cooling or your custom water-loop.

The rest is business as usual: 2560 CUDA cores and 8 GB GDDR5X VRAM, with the core being clocked at 1936 MHz. The memory is clocked at reference speeds of 10 GHz but the addition of an overclocking BIOS should help alleviate that fact. Power to the card is fed through dual 8-Pin connectors which should be enough to power the electrical circuitry on the PCB, which Colorful touts as having been fully re-engineered so as to deliver the KUDAN's required power characteristics. Display outputs on the card include 1x DVI, 1x HDMI and 3x DisplayPort.

No details on pricing, but expect this one to come in near the top of overall GTX 1080 offerings. The GTX 1080 KUDAN is expected to launch somewhere along December or January.
