COUGAR Releases the Ranger Gaming Sofa for Royal Gaming Comfort

COUGAR today announced the release of a gaming-styled sofa (and yes, now you can believe it isn't a typo or this editor simply mixing home furniture concepts up in his head). The Ranger has been designed, according to COUGAR, for smartphone and console gaming, and features a reclining mechanism (95º to 160º) that allows you to take a quick nap whilst your teammates do all the hard work through that raid or pesky dungeon you've already gone over and over again. In this chair, you're royalty, after all.

The frame is surely made of viking-smithed steel (COUGAR only states steel, which is surely a technical oversight from someone having written the description in a sofa other than the Ranger). The material is high-quality, breathable, heavenly leather with a real diamond-cut pattern. There's lumbar support, a headrest, and a footrest. Sadly, there's no support for that 12-year single-malt whiskey you've been saving up for such a gaming-oriented occasion, which seems like a slight oversight. This Ranger doesn't feature the usual mobility associated with that particular gaming class, though: at 700 mm width, 980 mm depth, 1,025 mm height, and 31 Kg of pure, comfortable mass, it won't be a good companion for either your wallet (shipping costs) or an accessory to prove your supremacy in battle, to be carried over by a page. One-year warranty and an April 22nd shipping date have been given, and the Ranger should be available for $280.

Cougar Releases Phontum Pro Gaming Headset

Cougar finally got around to releasing the Phontum Pro gaming headset to the market, having unveiled it way back at the 2018 Computex, and announced it in December 2019. The Phontum Pro is an upscale variant of the Cougar Phontum, featuring a USB DAC in addition to the 4-pole 3.5 mm jack input. When plugged into USB, a single cable provides audio I/O and ARGB LED illumination around the cans.

The Cougar UIX software provides Azalia-USB class audio drivers, and a centralized application for audio- and lighting control for the headset. As a pair of cans, the Phontum Pro is stereo, with a pair of 53 mm drivers. A C-Media Xear3D DSP provides virtual 7.1 surround. The drivers provide 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, 98 dB ± 3 dB sensitivity, and 32 Ω impedance. The mic features 9.7 mm of active noise cancellation, 100 Hz to 10 kHz frequency response, and -47 dB ± 3 dB sensitivity. The mic stock is detachable from the rest of the headset.

Cougar Launches the Conquer 2 Full-tower Chassis

Cougar today launched the Conquer 2, a premium ATX full-tower chassis it unveiled at Computex 2019. Cooling options include two 120 mm front intakes that can hold onto a 240 mm radiator, and three 120 mm top exhausts, which can hold a 360 mm radiator. Measuring 368 mm x 631 mm x 744 mm (WxHxD), the case weighs about 18 kg. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Cougar Unveils the DarkBlader Line of Full-tower Cases

Cougar unveiled the DarkBlader line of ATX full-tower cases characterized by an asymmetric trapezoid front design, and two variants based the front panel. The DarkBlader-G has a tinted tempered glass front insert, while the DarkBlader-S has an anodized-aluminium insert arranged in a stepped pattern. The rest of the front panels on both models have a brushed metal finish. The right side panel is dominated by a tempered glass panel, and the case's front-panel connectivity are arranged along the side, with light-framing that glow in RGB. On both cases a trapezoid RGB LED diffuser runs along the height of the case. Besides ATX, the case supports E-ATX and CEB motherboard form-factors.

Inside, the DarkBlader features a conventional horizontally-partitioned layout. The motherboard tray has room for graphics cards up to 38 cm in length, and CPU coolers up to 17 cm in height. The Conquer 2 features a detachable sub-chassis so that users can mount components on the exterior of the chassis' carcass for easier access and installation. The Conquer 2 keeps support for 360 mm radiators despite these design characteristics, and is a case that's sure to draw attention wherever it stands.

This approach is unique in that it delivers advanced design features in a Micro ATX / Mini ITX case.

This new case will start retailing with an MSRP of $229 USD during late July in the US, with launches in the rest of the world following soon afterward. As with the original Conquer, the new Conquer Essence's main strength resides in its unique design. The CNC-milled aluminum-based open design and two tempered glass covers create a beautiful silhouette that expresses the COUGAR DNA like no other while allowing a full view of the computer's internal components; Conquer Essence is another step in the guru brand's pursuit of radically new concepts that challenge established conventions.

Cougar Intros Vortex RGB HPB 120 Fans

Cougar today introduced the Vortex RGB HPB 120 mm fans in packs of 3, meant for 360 mm x 120 mm radiators. The fans are more optimized for radiators and heatsinks than case ventilation. The fans are characterized by a unique fan frame design, with guide panes that create a vortex at the receiving end of the fan, which Cougar believes, will increase the amount of heat picked up by the air, from heatsinks and radiators. At the front end of the frame (from which the fan draws air), is a silicone diffuser with 18 RGB LEDs.

Since these are sold in packs of three, the pack also includes an RGB LED controller dubbed "Core Box," with an RF remote control. This controller supports up to 8 fans, and up to four LED strips. As a fan itself, the Vortex RGB HPB 120 takes in 4-pin (PWM) input, spins between 600 to 1,500 RPM, pushing up to 43.54 CFM of air at top speed, with a noise output of 26 dBA (the company didn't mention at what speed). It implements a fluid-dynamic bearing (referred to as "hydro dynamic bearing" by the company). The company didn't reveal pricing.

Cougar Intros the Phontum Pro, Immersa 2, and Havoc BT Gaming Headsets

Cougar launched three new gaming headsets and an external DAC this Computex, including the Phontum Pro, Immersa 2, Havoc BT, and Dive. The Phontum Pro is a step up from the original Phontum headset the company launched at CES 2018. While its design is practically unchanged from the original, the Phontum Pro features a circular RGB LED diffuser that lights up the grille of the cans. You also get virtual 7.1 surround DSP. It's compatible with Cougar's proprietary UIX software, which gives you virtual 7.1 processing, a graphic equalizer, and controls for the RGB LED illumination. The audio specs are otherwise unchanged from the original.

The Havoc BT is a pair of wireless in-ear gaming headphones, which you can use over Bluetooth 5.0. You get up to 8 hours of listening on a full battery charge, with each of the two earbuds embedding its own battery. Under the hood, these pack 10 mm graphene diaphragm drivers. The tips are made of memory foam that retain the unique shape of your ears. The Immersa 2 is an evolution of the original Immersa headset, which got an RGB LED upgrade with last year's Immersa Pro launch. What's changed are the new titanium-coated diaphragms inside the 50 mm drivers which produce a "unique" sound-stage; 35 mm thick ear-pads that are now made from memory foam, and a larger 9.7 mm microphone.

Cougar's Puri Keyboard now Available in Silver, with White LEDs

At Computex, Cougar unveiled a silver version of its minimalist Puri mechanical gaming keyboard, which debuted last year. This version features a matte silver finished bezel, with flat Allen key rivets holding it to the base-plate. The keycaps sit tall, though not all the way up (above the plane of the bezel). The keycaps are matte-black, and have a white LED illumination with 20 backlighting modes. The keyboard itself has a 108-key layout, with four media keys, and the Fn key converting the function keys to re-programmable macro keys. Cougar will probably price this on par with the original, at $79.99.

Cougar Shows New Gaming Keyboard with Integrated Speakers

Probably the most oddball fusion of two components, Cougar unveiled a prototype gaming keyboard with integrated stereo speakers. The body design appears to be an evolution of the company's Attack X3, with a few polygonal cutouts along the side-walls. These speakers feature drivers found in notebooks, and take advantage of the hollow space inside the keyboard, and its metal base. The keyboard takes audio input from a standard 3.5 mm jack, while a USB connection drives the rest of it (probably including an amplifier for the speakers). There's also a downstream 3.5 mm jack to plug in your headphones, which probably mutes these tweeters integrated speakers, when your headphones are plugged in. How does it sound? Like your laptop. As a keyboard itself, you get a standard 104-key layout with RGB LED illumination, and special chrome keycaps over the WASD and arrow keys.

Cougar Announces Attack X3 RGB 2018 Edition Keyboard

Cougar today announced a refresh of its popular Attack X3 RGB mechanical gaming keyboard. The new 2018 Edition of the keyboard comes with an ergonomic palm-rest that's detachable. The palm rest has slightly raised rubberized surfaces towards the edges, where its designers thought you'd typically rest your palm, that is, until you find yourself typing quite a bit. In that case, your right palm will find itself in a gap between the two rubberized edges. Apart from the palm rest, the Attack X3 RGB 2018 Edition is identical to its 2016 predecessor.

Cougar Launches the PANZER-G Glass-Enveloped Chassis

Cougar has launched another tower chassis to its lineup in the form of the glass-clad PANZER-G. The PANZER-G makes its Cougar DNA known through its orange accents, which give an aggressive look to a pretty elegant case. The symmetry of the chassis has been achieved in a way that guides your eyes vertically through the chassis. It's a mix of industrialized glass, screws and alloy frames that's actually well put together, and the front glass panel and new generation Vortex fan LED design lends to the PANZER-G's subdued, yet clearly present, aesthetic.
