LG Sneaks Out Two 4K UltraGear Gaming Monitors

LG is something of an expert when it comes to silently launching new monitors and although its latest additions to its UltraGear range of gaming monitors are only minor variants of already existing products, it appears that we're looking at a pair of more affordable models. The 27GR93U-B and 32GR93U-B as the new models are called, measure 27 and 32-inches respectively and both offer 4K resolution and a 144 Hz refresh rate. Comparing the 27GR93U-B to the 27GN950-B, the first really obvious difference is the use of a standard IPS panel instead of a Nano IPS panel and this leads to a slight reduction in the DCI-P3 colour gamut from 98 to 95 percent.

The new models are only certified for FreeSync Premium, rather than FreeSync Premium Pro, but that appears to be the only obvious reduction in gaming features, as G-Sync compatible support, VRR, Black Stabilizer, Dynamic Action Sync, Crosshairs and the FPS counter are all present and accounted for. Both displays have two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 and one upstreams and two downstreams USB 3.0 ports, as well as a 4-pole 3.5 mm jack for a headset. On the plus side, these new models have slightly lower power consumption, with a typical power consumption of about 50 W for the 27-inch model and 65 W for the 32-inch model. The stand still supports tilt, height and pivot adjustment. No official pricing was announced, but we found the 27-inch model listed in Hong Kong for the equivalent of around US$560, which is around US$200 less than what the 27GN950-B retails for.

YUAN High-Tech Unveils 8K60 Video Capture Devices with HDMI 2.1, for Consumers

Taiwan-based YUAN High-Tech Development company brought a series of consumer-grade (read: affordable) video capture devices, at Computex 2023. Too cutting-edge? There's also the SC720N1, which is a PCI-Express 2.0 x8 AIC with DisplayPort 1.4a input and output, letting you capture 8K at 30 FPS, and 4K at 120 FPS. Don't have PCIe slots to spare? There are even external versions of these cards. The UB700G is a wallet-sized device that passes through HDMI 2.1, connects to your PC over 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2, and can capture 8K @ 60 FPS, 4K @ 144 FPS that's encoded in MJPEG format on the device (to overcome the 10 Gbps interface bottleneck), or 4K 60 FPS RAW (uncompressed).

LG Sneaks Out 40-inch 5120 x 2160 Display Targeting Professionals

For those waiting for a 5K2K or 5120 x 2160 gaming monitor, it seems like you're going to have to wait a while longer yet, as LG's latest addition in the ultrawide 4K category is targeting professional users. The 39.7-inch Nano IPS based display tops out at a brightness of 300 cd/m² and it has a typical IPS contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a response time of 5 ms grey to grey, with a colour gamut that meets 90 percent of the DCI-P3 standard. Rather interestingly, it has a maximum refresh rate of a rather unusual 72 Hz, rather than the somewhat more common 75 Hz and there's support for AMD FreeSync for those that still want to game on the monitor. The panel is curved, but LG doesn't mention the actual curvature, but a guess would be somewhere between 1800R to 1500R.

However, what makes this display stand out is that it features Thunderbolt 4 and it can be daisy chained with a second, identical display, although this drops the refresh rate down to 60 Hz on both panels. It delivers up to 96 Watts of power over the Thunderbolt port, which means it would power most notebooks that don't feature a discrete GPU. Other connectivity options include a single DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI ports, which are limited to 3440 x 1440 resolution, a pair of USB 3.0 ports on the side as well as a headphone jack around the back. The display also has a pair of integrated 10 W speakers and sports a stand with height, tilt and swivel adjustments. The 40WP95CP-W is said to retail for around €1,339, but most retailers seem to list it for around €1,400 or more at the moment.

XMG Introduces PRO and FOCUS Laptops with i9-13900HX and RTX 4070

With the new PRO and the FOCUS (E23), XMG introduces two laptop series on a similar hardware basis: Both feature Intel's Core i9-13900HX and NVIDIA graphics cards up to the GeForce RTX 4070. While the PRO 15 and PRO 17 are slightly thinner as gaming workstations and boast more extensive connectivity, the FOCUS scores at a more affordable price and is not only available in 15.6 and 17.3-inch versions, but also in a 16-inch format. For the laptops originally designed as an entry-level series, the hardware upgrades mean a significant upgrade: the FOCUS series moves closer to the PRO laptops.

The key components found in the new XMG PRO 15 and PRO 17 as well as the XMG FOCUS 15, FOCUS 16 and FOCUS 17 are almost identical. All laptops employ Intel's Core i9-13900HX with 24 cores (8 P-cores, 16 E-cores) and 32 threads. The freely configurable graphics card options each include NVIDIA's new, DLSS-3-capable GeForce RTX 4050 (FOCUS only) as well as 4060 and 4070 (FOCUS and PRO) with a maximum graphics power rating of up to 140 watts (115 watts TGP plus 25 watts Dynamic Boost 2.0). However, since the clock behaviour and the actual power consumption of the GPUs in the new generation are subject to much more restrictive, application-specific specifications from NVIDIA, the maximum values are only achieved in synthetic stress tests such as Furmark - according to the official requirements of the graphics chip manufacturer.

Philips Announces a Pair of 45-inch Ultra Wide Monitors with USB-C and KVM Support

Last month, Philips introduced a pair of 40-inch ultrawide monitors targeting office work, both with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels. Now the company has introduced a pair of larger 45-inch displays for the same target market, but with a wider 5120 x 1440 pixel resolution and a 32:9 aspect ratio. The 45B1U6900C and 45B1U6900CH are largely identical as with the 40-inch models, with the differentiator being that the latter has a built-in 5 Megapixel webcam with support for Windows Hello. The other difference being that the 45B1U6900C sports one USB-C and one USB-B port for the KVM functionality, whereas the 45B1U6900CH is equipped with a pair of USB-C ports.

The display panel is of VA type with a refresh rate of up to 75 Hz and a typical response time of 4 ms. It has a brightness of 450 cd/m² and a typical contrast ratio of 3000:1. It's also DisplayHDR 400 certified. Outside of the USB inputs, these displays have two HDMI 2.0 inputs, a DisplayPort 1.4, with the USB-C ports on both models offering DP Alt mode, 10 Gbps data speeds and USB PD support up to 100 W. Both models have four downstream USB-A ports, one which supports fast charging and an additional USB-C downstream port that delivers up to 15 W of power. There's also Gigabit Ethernet and an audio jack, as well as a pair of built in 5 W speakers, making these displays decent docking stations at work. The stand is height adjustable and the display can be tilted and swivelled, but not rotated, for obvious reasons. No pricing is available at the moment, but both models should be available shortly.
