iBUYPOWER Announces the Next Generation of the Revolt Series

PowerColor Readies SFF-friendly Radeon RX 5700 ITX: Single 8-pin, Idle-Fan-Off

PowerColor is readying a small form-factor friendly custom-design Radeon RX 5700 graphics card, called simply the PowerColor RX 5700 ITX. With a length of 17.5 cm, standard 11 cm height, and strictly 2-slot thickness, the card uses a dense aluminium fin-stack heatsink with four 6 mm-thick nickel-plated copper heat pipes that make direct contact with the GPU at the base, ventilated by a single 80 mm fan. More interestingly, the card draws power from a single 8-pin PCIe power connector (225 W max power input for the connector + PCIe slot).

Unsurprisingly, the PowerColor RX 5700 ITX sticks to AMD-reference clock-speeds of 1465 MHz base, 1625 MHz gaming, and 1725 MHz boost, with the memory ticking at 14 Gbps (GDDR6-effective). Despite its compact cooling solution, the card does not skimp on idle-fan-off. Display outputs include two DisplayPort 1.4, and one HDMI 2.0. Based on the 7 nm "Navi 10" silicon, the RX 5700 features 2,304 stream processors across 36 RDNA compute units, 144 TMUs, 64 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR6 memory interface, holding 8 GB of memory. PowerColor didn't reveal pricing of the card, as it will formally launch it later this month.

Akasa Rolls Out Cypher MX3 Thin Mini-ITX Case

Akasa today rolled out the Cypher MX3, a Thin Mini-ITX case for low-profile, fan-less desktop builds meant as digital signage boxes, thin clients, or low-power desktops that you tuck away behind your monitor. Measuring 208 mm x 203 mm x 45 mm (WxDxH), which amounts to a lunchbox-sized volume of just 2 liters, the Cypher MX3 features a SECC steel construction with a ventilated 3-sided panel covering the top and sides. Its front panel provides two each of USB 3.1 type-A, two USB 2.0/1.1, and HDA jacks. Besides the motherboard, there's room for a 2.5-inch drive inside. The case is designed for external power-bricks that plug in directly to the motherboard, which provides power for your SSD. Available now, the Akasa Cypher MX3 is priced at USD $59.

Antec Announces the NX400 Mid-tower Case with Front Panel RGB Lighting

The mid-tower is now commercially available from 53,99€ (suggested retail price including VAT). ASUS Rolls Out the Prime A320I-K Mini-ITX Motherboard

ASUS today rolled out an entry-level mini-ITX motherboard for the AMD socket AM4 platform, the Prime A320I-K. Based on the AMD A320 chipset, the board supports 1st and 2nd generation Ryzen processors out of the box, including the 8-core models. The tiny A320 chipset is tucked away behind a metal heatspreader underneath the M.2-2280 slot. The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS connectors, conditioning it with a 6-phase VRM that makes do without a heatsink.

Storage connectivity on the A320I-K includes four SATA 6 Gbps ports, and an M.2-2280 slot with PCI-Express 2.0 x4 and SATA 6 Gbps wiring from the SoC. The board's lone expansion slot is a PCI-Express 3.0 x16. USB connectivity includes six USB 3.1 gen 1 ports, four on the rear-panel and two via headers; and four USB 2.0 ports, of which two are via headers. Display connectivity includes one each of DisplayPort and HDMI. Networking is care of a single 1 GbE interface driven by a Realtek RTL8111H controller, and the onboard audio solution is an entry-level Realtek ALC887. We expect the Prime A320I-K to be priced around $60.

Akasa Presents Several New Aluminium-rich Cases

Akasa this Computex unveiled half a dozen new premium cases for congested desks and living rooms, which make use of copious amounts of aluminium to both look good and stay cool without any moving parts (read: fans). The Dot and Gem made us go "awww" first. The Dot looks like a Lego brick that spent too much time in Pripyat (although not as big as a real brick itself). It can house several models of Raspberry Pi, ASUS Tinker Board, and ODROID-C2, which are ARM-based "makerboards." You also get an included SD card reader, and room for a Hi-Fi Berry DAC board to go with your Pi. The Gem has a nearly identical design, but with an eclectic top plate design.

The Skytale and Skytale-X, obviously so-named to catch PC enthusiasts' eyes as they passed by the booth, are sleek, silvery-aluminium HTPC cases with a monolithic design (as opposed to heatsink ridges sticking out of the sides). With a height of just 50 mm, both cases are designed for mini-ITX motherboards that needn't be thin. What sets the two apart is the presence of a full-height add-on card slot on the Skytale-X, which uses a PCIe riser. Lastly, we spotted a new variant of the Turing case Akasa launched in February, which comes in a racy shade of blue.

ASRock Unveils World's First Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Card

ASRock will be showing the world's first Thin Mini-ITX form factor - RX570TM-ITX/TBT graphics card, which adapts with AMD Radeon RX570 graphics card and supports Intel Thunderbolt 3 technology. The RX570TM-ITX/TBT graphics card is not only the first graphics card with a Thunderbolt 3 Type-C interface which supports 40Gb/s transfer rate and power delivery, but it also features 4 USB 3.1 Gen1 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and SATA 6Gb/s interface.
The RX570TM-ITX/TBT graphics card is based on the Thin Mini-ITX concept. With this graphics card, All-in-One PC manufacturers can develop their own Thunderbolt monitors with 3D performance and power charging with less effort. Moreover, it would be able to fit in a mini ITX chassis. By connecting a notebook through Thunderbolt 3 Type-C interface, it helps to increase the notebook's 3D computing power and charge the notebook at the same time.

ASUS Shows Off its X570 Motherboard Lineup: ITX Included

ASUS at a private pre-Computex event gave us a closer look at a treasure of upcoming products. The star-attractions, however, were its AMD X570 motherboard family that's spread across nearly every brand: ROG Crosshair, ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, Prime, and for the very first time for the AM4 platform, the WS series. The crown jewel of course is the mini-ITX form-factor product, the ROG Strix X570-I Gaming. This board is quite an engineering feat considering the ≥15 Watts TDP of the X570 chipset, which requires active cooling in most cases. An intricate network of heatsinks suspended along heat-pipes leading up to a dense aluminium fin-stack ventilated by a 30 mm fan, cools both the chipset and CPU VRM. ASUS designed this board to handle even the 12-core Ryzen 9 3900X, but we don't expect too much overclocking headroom.

BIOSTAR Introduces Edge Computing Solution with SoC Motherboard -A10N-8800E

MSI GeForce RTX 2070 AERO ITX Makes Its Debut

MSI's most recent addition to their NVIDIA GeForce based line up has appeared. The newly minted RTX 2070 AERO ITX is as you may have guessed a graphics card that targets the mini-ITX market. It is currently the smallest RTX series graphics card to be spotted thus far, with it being perfect for this form factor as it lacks a few features seen on the higher end RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti that add complexity. Essentially the lack of NVlink on all RTX 2070 offerings allows for a simpler PCB design that is better suited for this design. There is also the fact anyone wanting SLI would not be looking at ITX focused cards anyway.

The other feature removed likely for cost savings is the VirtualLink (USB-C) connector that delivers power, video, and data for virtual reality headsets. While not entirely a deal breaker it still makes using it for a small form factor VR system a bit more difficult going forward. That said, considering the slow adoption of VR its removal is still a relatively safe bet for MSI for now. Taking a closer look at the packaging shows no indication of a pre-applied overclock, meaning MSI's RTX 2070 AERO ITX should come with NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 1410 MHz base / 1620 MHz boost on the core. The 8 GB of GDDR6 memory should have clocks of 1750 MHz (14000 MHz effective). As for the graphics card's TDP, it should also keep to the reference specification of 175-watts. Currently, pricing and availability are still unknown.

Nuxcase Chassi is a Mini-ITX Tower Case That Looks Bigger Than It Is

Swedish startup Nuxcase set out on its journey to make PC cases "simpler, cooler, and better." Big things have small beginnings, and the company's first creation is the Chassi, a mini-ITX tower-type case that looks bigger in pictures than it is. Clad in five contrasting 2-tone color options with clear acrylic making up the side and front panels; the case features a "slide-in" tray. You assemble your motherboard and graphics card (vertically) along the mount, and slide it into the case. A PCIe x16 riser connects to your motherboard.

The Chassi supports graphics cards up to 18.5 cm in length, and CPU coolers no more than 6 cm in height, restricted by the graphics card. The case features a mount for an SFX power supply and a couple of 2.5-inch drive bays. Despite its size, there's room for up to two 80 mm fans. It measures 110 mm x 215 mm x 245 mm (WxDxH). There's also a tiny handle that lets you haul it around. Available now, the Nuxcase Chassi is priced at SEK 400 (USD $44.2).

MetallicGear Announces the Neo Series Cases

MetallicGear, powered by Phanteks, today introduced the NEO Series, a new level of cases that brings contemporary elegance, sleek minimalistic design and innovative features. The NEO Series is aimed to provide cost-effective cases that do not compromise on quality. The NEO Series will be available in four models, NEO, NEO Micro, NEO Mini and the NEO-G Mini.

The NEO and NEO Micro will feature an aluminum exterior with dual tempered glass side panels. The NEO will support an ATX motherboard and can house a single 240 mm or 280 mm radiator in front. While the NEO Micro, a compact tower that can support a micro ATX form factor and 240 mm radiator up front as well.

GIGABYTE Intros B450-I Aorus Pro WiFi Motherboard

GIGABYTE introduced an Aorus-branded, quasi-premium mini-ITX motherboard based on AMD B450 chipset, for socket AM4 processors, the B450-I Aorus Pro WiFi. The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS, conditioning it for the SoC with a lean 4+2 phase VRM. The AM4 SoC is wired to two DDR4 DIMM slots, supporting up to 32 GB of dual-channel DDR4 memory; and the board's lone PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot.

Storage connectivity on the B450-I Aorus Pro WiFi includes an M.2-2280 slot with PCI-Express 3.0 x4 and SATA 6 Gbps wiring; and four SATA 6 Gbps ports. USB connectivity includes six USB 3.0 ports (four on the rear panel, two by headers); and two USB 3.1 gen 2 (both on the rear panel). With just 6-channel jacks, the onboard audio solution may look cheap, but is redeemed by Realtek ALC1220 CODEC. The Intel 9260 adapter is at the helm of wireless networking, with 802.11ac + Bluetooth 5.0, while GbE is handled by Intel i211AT. There's also some RGB LED fun to be had, with two 4-pin ARGB headers, and a small 8-pixel diffuser behind the PCB. GIGABYTE could price this board around $120.

ASUS Intros Prime H310T Motherboard

ASUS rolled out the Prime H310T, one of the rare few thin mini-ITX motherboards based on Intel 300-series chipset, a boon for certain SFF cases such as the Akasa Euler series, or DIY all-in-one PC upgrades. Based on Intel H310 chipset, the board supports 8th generation Intel "Coffee Lake" processors (including 95W TDP chips). It draws power from 2-pin (12V DC in), and conditions it for the LGA1151 processor using a simple 3+1 phase VRM. The CPU socket is wired to two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, which support up to 32 GB of dual-channel DDR4-2666 memory.

Storage connectivity includes a 32 Gbps M.2-2280 slot, and two SATA 6 Gbps ports. The only other expansion slot is an M.2 slot for WLAN modules. Display outputs include LVDS (useful in AIOs), DisplayPort, and HDMI. USB connectivity includes four 5 Gbps USB 3.1 gen 1 ports. 2-channel HD audio and gigabit Ethernet make for the rest of it.

HDPlex H3 V2 Fanless Chassis Pictured

Here are some of the first pictures of HDPlex H3 V2 fan-less HTPC chassis. The H3 sits between the tiny H1 and deck-sized H5. It has the height of the H5 and the width of the H1. The case measures 270 mm x 264 mm x 93 mm (WxDxH), weighing in at 5.5 kg. Its main chamber can house mini-ITX motherboards, and a half-height add-on card that's no more than 1-slot thick. As with most fan-less cases, the chunky, ridged aluminium body of the H3 V2 doubles up as heatsink for the CPU/SoC, and can handle thermal loads of up to 80W. The CPU block uses eight 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes to transport heat to the body. The case also has room for up to four 7 mm-thick 2.5-inch drives. Available now, it is priced at USD $240.

SilverStone Intros Argon AR 11 Low-profile CPU Cooler

SilverStone released the latest entry to its Argon line of low-profile CPU coolers, with the Argon AR 11. Designed for LGA115x socket, with an installed height of just 47 mm, the cooler is ideal for SFF builds on mini-ITX motherboards, as its 97 mm x 94 mm x 47 mm aren't much larger than the CPU socket area of LGA115x motherboards itself. Like most Argon series coolers, its heatsink design involves a dense aluminium fin stack that propagates along the plane of the motherboard. Four 6 mm-thick copper heat pipes, which make direct contact with the CPU, pass through two ends of the fin-stack in an "S" shape. The fin-stack is ventilated by a 15 mm-thick 92 mm fan, which takes in 4-pin PWM input, spins between 1,200 to 3,000 RPM, pushing up to 55.76 CFM of air, with a noise output of 44.5 dBA at max speed. The cooler supports CPU TDP of up to 95W, which means you should be able to install even 6-core "Coffee Lake-D" Processors. The company didn't reveal pricing.

ASRock Intros a Pair of Celeron "Gemini Lake" ITX Motherboards

ASRock introduced a pair of mini-ITX desktop motherboards implementing Intel's new Celeron "Gemini Lake" SoCs. The ASRock J4105-ITX and J4105B-ITX, as their names suggest, are powered by Celeron J4105 "Gemini Lake" SoCs, which combine a quad-core "Goldmont Plus" CPU ticking at 2.50 GHz, with new Intel UHD 600 Graphics. The integrated graphics features hardware-acceleration of 10bpc HEVC video encoding and decoding in addition to new DRM standards, which should enable Netflix 4K, and other on-demand video services at 4K UHD resolution. The J4105-ITX and J4105B-ITX are similar, but for the latter featuring legacy connectivity such as LPT and RS232 COM ports, replacing 8-channel HD audio with 6-channel, and a DVI port. While the former has a PCIe x1 slot, the latter has an x16 slot with x2 wiring.

The board draws power from a 24-pin ATX connector. The SoC is cooled by a fan-less heatsink, and is wired to DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, supporting up to 8 GB of dual-channel DDR4-2400 memory. The 22 mm M.2 slot that has x1 wiring, is recommended only for a WLAN card. Storage connectivity includes four SATA 6 Gbps ports on the J4105-ITX, and two ports on the J4105B-ITX. Both boards come with gigabit Ethernet. Display outputs include DVI, HDMI, and D-Sub on the J4105-ITX; while the J4105B-ITX features D-Sub and HDMI. Both boards are expected to be priced around $170, given that the SoC itself costs $107.

SteigerDynamics Demonstrates Interesting, Flexible SFF Case Lineup at CES 2018

SteigerDynamics took the opportunity granted to them by taking part in a world-renowned tech show floor of CES 2018 to showcase an interesting lineup of SFF computer cases, with powerful systems integrated in a small footprint. These are usually considered the more impressive feats of engineering in the computer space, really; how much performance you can squeeze in a limited space, without compromising component reliability, cooling, and acoustics for the particular environments these will be used in.

SteigerDynamics has shown they do know how to engineer these systems, for sure. Their LEET Gaming Room/Living Room Gaming PC is a little on the bigger side, but it still carries a small footprint, in a pretty package, for the amount of high-quality hardware it's packing. A Maximus Hero X, a Core i7-8700K at 5 GHz, 16 GB of G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 memory and EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC, are almost as high-end a configuration one can have already. Add in the 2x 512 GB Samsung 960 PRO SSDs, and the 4x 1 TB HDDs in RAID 10, and there really isn't much to fault with this unit. Even power is taken care of by a Seasonic PRIME Titanium PSU. And to keep all of these high-performance components cool, the SteigerDynamics LEET carries a fully custom watercooling loop, that aids in silence and aesthetics. Just follow my lead here: don't look at the price-tag. It's really not for the faint of heart.
