Easy Overclocking Option Spotted in BIOS for "Refreshed" MSI Z790 MEG ACE MAX

An interesting new feature popped up within MSI's Click BIOS 5 interface recently—chi11eddog uploaded this discovery to social media with a message: "BIOS screenshot from a friend who just got new Z790 Ace Max mobo. 6.3 GHz in the "P-core Beyond 6 GHz+" menu. For 14th Gen?" It is suspected that MSI has already implemented a nice QoL update for a refresh of its top-of-the-line MAX motherboard series. A simplification of the overclocking process for Intel K-series processors is visibly in operation (at a menu level), courtesy of the leaked screenshot, but you are paying through the teeth for this level of treatment. MSI's MEG Z790 ACE E-ATX motherboard, in its current incarnation, has an MSRP of $699.99. Who knows when a trickle-down effect will apply to lower placed mainboard families.

The refreshed board seems to prepped for upper crust "Raptor Lake Refresh" SKUs including the 14th Core i9-14900K and KF variants—according to previous leaks, these potent processors are capable of hitting clocks of 6.0 GHz and a little bit beyond that (as suggested by MSI's P-Core 6 GHz+ option). VideoCardz notes that Team Blue's current-gen Core i9-13900KS CPU: "offers such high clock speeds at a premium price, making it the top desktop SKU from Intel," but the upcoming 14th Gen flagship chips will be the first to hit such impressive clocks—via Thermal Velocity Boost—without inclusion in an elite variant tier: Special Edition KS.

MSI GeForce RTX 4060 NV Edition Revealed as Drop #1 in Limited Series

Earlier today MSI announced its "The Limited Series," introduced as "a collection of exclusive, special version of selected items" from their product lineup. It is not immediately clear whether the first drop has been revealed prematurely—several media outlets have reported on the manufacturer's GeForce RTX 4060 Gaming X NV Edition graphics card being limited to a run of 6000 units (with select retail partners), while MSI's dedicated website for their new promotion campaign has not been updated (at the time of writing).

This limited edition "NVIDIA Edition" (NV) card appears to be a slightly dolled-up variation of the existing MSI RTX 4060 Ti Gaming X model—albeit with Team Green coloration and (possibly) white LED lighting zones. This limited run's aesthetic is said to: "deliver the same high-performance MSI brings for more than 35 years with a one-of-a-kind outlook and exclusive features to give a chance to GAMERS to add something very unique to their PC Builds." No global pricing details were included in accompanying marketing blurb.

ASUS Discontinues ROG APEX Z790, Next-Generation Version Incoming

In a recent interaction with the community on Chinese social platforms, Tony Yu, better known as Uncle Tony and serving as the General Manager of ASUS China, shed light on several questions concerning ASUS's products. One question that captured attention was about the ROG Z790 APEX motherboard, a premium offering from ASUS designed explicitly for overclocking. Tony clarified that the motherboard is currently out of production as ASUS gears up to unveil an updated version. This move is in line with industry trends, with rivals like Gigabyte and MSI also refreshing their respective Z790 lineups. The updated motherboards from ASUS are expected to align with Intel's next-generation Core series known as Raptor Lake Refresh, featuring incremental improvements such as WiFi-7 standard integration, new color options, enhanced power delivery mechanisms, and advancements in memory overclocking capabilities.

Launched initially in November of the previous year with a price tag of $699, the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 APEX motherboard stood out for its superior features aimed at overclocking enthusiasts. These include 24 power supply modules, dual 8Pin power connectors, AI-driven overclocking technology, and support for DDR5 memory with speeds exceeding 8000 MT/s. It also offers a plethora of connectivity options, like five M.2 interfaces, a 2.5G network card, WiFi 6E, and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C, along with 60 W QC 4+ fast charging. This motherboard gained popularity in December when it was used to set a world record CPU frequency of 9008.82 MHz using an Intel i9-13900K processor. Looking forward, the next generation of Intel Core processors could enable even higher overclocking frequencies. Apart from this, Tony tantalizingly hinted that ASUS is experimenting with innovative design changes, such as introducing connectors on the reverse side of motherboards, although this feature may not debut in the APEX series.

MSI BIOS Update Fixes Error Message on Intel 700 and 600 Series Motherboards

Regarding some of our users receiving an error message of "UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR" upon Blue Screen of Death with MSI's Intel 700 and 600 Series Motherboards. MSI and Intel have been working hard these several weeks to come up with a solution together and have found the root cause of the BSOD issue which is regarding the firmware setting of Intel Hybrid Architecture. It is determined that the BSOD will only affect Intel's 13th Gen Core i9 paired with the following versions of the Windows operating system (OS).

The new BIOS coming will include an update on the Intel CPU uCode which will prevent any more messages regarding the "UNSUPPORTED_PROCESSOR" issues. This upcoming update will correspond to both 13th-generation and newer ones. There will be more BIOS available to download on MSI's official website for all Intel 700 and 600 Series models this week and all BIOS release will be available by the end of September.

MSI Confirms Intel 14th Gen Core Specs In YouTube Live Stream

MSI has done it yet again, that is to leak Intel confidential information about upcoming products. In a live stream earlier today, the company put on a slide clearly marked "NDA, do not share!" which confirms the specs of some of Intel's upcoming 14th Gen Core CPUs, also known under the Raptor Lake-S Refresh code name. That said, the only thing that really needed confirmation that is on the slide is that the Core i7-14700K is getting an additional four E-cores.

That said, MSI does provide some insight on what to expect in terms of performance gain over the 13th Gen Core processors and it's not a whole lot. According to MSI, we should expect an average performance boost of around three percent compared to the same SKU from the previous generation. That's possibly one of the worst performance gains ever from Intel, generation to generation, although it is only a refresh, but the question is, why did Intel even bother? The Core i7-14700K does on average get a 17 percent performance boost in multi-threaded applications thanks to the extra E-cores, but this is hardly going to make anyone with a Core i7-13700K going to want to upgrade. Note that the video has been taken down by MSI as of the time of this article being posted.

MSI Releases New AGESA PI 1.0.0.7c BIOS Update for Higher Frequency Memory Modules and Stability Bug Fixes

MSI, today, released a new AMD AGESA PI 1.0.0.7c BIOS update for all MSI's motherboard X670E, X670, B650, A620 product line. For this new BIOS release, MSI focus on and prioritize mainly for higher DDR5 memory module support and also stability bug fixes. The latest update has huge significant increase for supported memory frequency on AMD Ryzen CPUs. Below is a list of models that will be ready at the time of the release while other models will have come support in the following week.

In the screenshots below, demonstrates running a Memory Stress Test, on an AMD Ryzen R7 7700X CPU with a paired of dual-channel DDR5-7200 MHz "EXPO" certified kit on MSI's PRO B650-P WIFI Motherboard will run without any stability issues. Moreover, it also demonstrates running a Memory Stress Test on an AMD Ryzen R9 7900X CPU with MSI's MEG X670E ACE Motherboard can even achieve 8000 MHz (CL36) high frequency. A few more updates specifically on the AGESA 1.0.0.7c added extra for protection for reliability than before and also patched a few potential vulnerabilities and security loopholes.

LTX 2023 Recap: Reaching Critical Mass as an Annual Consumer Event

The LTX Event has returned in its annual two-day form in beautiful Vancouver after the COVID break. With blistering temperatures outside, it was great to see the turnout and having it come out of the four-year pause that the pandemic demanded. Compared to 2019, where there was a handful of brands, and the 2023 location has moved slightly, from the older Canada Place convention center, to its newer, adjacent building. At roughly USD $40 for a visitor's day pass, one could argue that it isn't even that cheap, but even so upon arriving there on Saturday, there was a line running along the entire length of the building for visitors to enter with a pre-purchased pass in hand.
Just like in 2019, the event is propped up around several core pillars. There are interactive events like a case toss competition, live stage shows with various topics, a LAN party section, as well as an ever greater mix of brands to allow excited end-users to get an up close look at featured products and even try them out. The entire event also provides brands the ability to sponsor various sections, while others have focused on booth space for exposure and interactivity.

3DStor Listing Outs MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Custom Blower Card

PC hardware enthusiast, harukaze5719, has stumbled upon a very understated looking custom GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card. MSI has produced a two-unit wide blower-type cooling system for the current flagship NVIDIA 40-series GPU, with Chinese PC hardware retailer—3DStor.com—being the only semi-official source of information. MSI's own web presences have not been updated to include their new GeForce RTX 4090 Aero S 24G model. The e-retailer does not provide any pricing information, but several examples (more than ten) are available to purchase via mujitech3's Ebay store. The Ningbo-based seller is charging a cool $3065 per card, plus an additional $80.00 for international shipping.

According to 3dstor's listing, the relatively compact custom design sticks to NVIDIA's recommended reference specifications (boost clock reaching 2520 MHz), but a 350 W TGP looks to be a bit iffy (coupled with the board's 16-pin 12VHPWR connector)—Tom's Hardware observed that this: "is 100 W lower when compared to regular RTX 4090 AIBs. We must assume that this is a typo and that its TGP is the same as other RTX 4090 graphics cards, which are currently the best graphics cards for gaming. Meanwhile, when the board peaks at 450 W, its blower-based cooling system likely gets extremely loud." The low-key monolithic shroud design suggests that MSI is likely targeting professional types with its Aero S 24G model, although gamers eyeing a compact build will be well catered to...if they can spare the expense.

MSI Arc A310 Low Profile 2X Graphics Card Unboxed in YouTube Short

An MSI Arc A310 4 GB Low Profile 2X graphics card is now available to purchase at a couple of Russian PC hardware retailers (for roughly $140), and a local YouTuber has already produced a quick unboxing video. Intel's board partners have been sluggish in adopting lower-end Alchemist GPU variants, with only a handful of companies bothering to produce cards based on the Arc A310 (DG2-128).

Sparkle displayed an unnamed super compact model at Computex 2023, and presentation slides have recently revealed that their "Industrial Low-Profile" series will be introduced under the GENIE moniker, comprised of single slot/fan A310 and A380 variants. Sparkle has not outlined a possible Western release for these budget cards, and other manufacturers have been reluctant to move beyond the Chinese OEM market. The Gigabyte A3 series is reportedly a Russian market exclusive for the moment, so it will be interesting to see if MSI is only targeting that territory with its competing dual fan design Arc A310 4 GB Low Profile model.

MSI Announces Multiple New Cubi Mini PCs

MSI, a world leader in high-performance and innovative computing solutions, has recently launched its Mini PC line-up, featuring the Cubi 5, Cubi N, PRO DP10, and PRO DP21 series. This array of minis caters to the requirements of the SMB, offices, hostels, restaurants, educational institutions, medical facilities, science labs, kiosks, and more. This collection of mini computers is designed with productivity in mind and featuring a miniature chassis, powerful processor options, exclusive software, and Thunderbolt 4, the Cubi and PRO DP series have raised the bar in terms of compact computing.

Unleashing Power in a Compact Package: Cubi 5 & Cubi N
The Cubi series offers remarkable power with a small footprint of only 0.66 liters, making it effortless to access high-performance capabilities at your fingertips. Equipped with up to the latest Intel Core i7 processors, the Cubi series boasts incredible performance that rivals many full-sized desktop computers. The Cubi 5 boasts a noteworthy feature: an extensive range of connectivity options. Despite its mini size, it offers an impressive selection of ports, such as Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, HDMI, and DisplayPort. In addition, Dual Ethernet ports on both Cubi series can improve network security by keeping the internet and intranet connections separate and preventing unauthorized access. It is also a reliable backup in case one port fails as the other one will be activated immediately.

RTX 4060 Ti 16GB Marginally Slower than 8GB Model: MSI Testing

MSI Insider Weekly tested an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB graphics card as part of a Live Benchmarking event, where it is shown to be in fact slower than the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB. This begins to explain why NVIDIA or its board partners weren't too keen on sampling the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB for reviews. The performance delta between the 16 GB and 8 GB models is within 0.5%, but the 16 GB model is slightly behind the 8 GB in Cyberpunk 2077, F1 23, and Rainbow 6: Siege, all in Ultra (or equivalent settings). The performance is neck-and-neck in Fortnite and Hogwarts Legacy. The only test where the 16 GB variant is ahead is with CS:GO.

Besides the memory size, the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB has identical specs—core configuration, clock-speeds, power limits, to its 8 GB sibling. One possible explanation for the 16 GB performing slightly worse could be that the higher density 16 GB memory is imposing a slightly higher latency, or having a negligibly higher power draw, but these are all just theory-crafting on our part. The RTX 4060 Ti still has 225 W at its disposal. NVIDIA has proved its point that 16 GB makes no difference to the performance of the RTX 4060 Ti. It's now up to the board partners to sell these cards at a whopping 25% higher price than the 8 GB model. Ideally, NVIDIA could have spruced up the 16 GB variant a little, by enabling all 18 TPCs on the AD106 (the RTX 4060 Ti enables 17); and if the AD106 supports GDDR6X, they should have dialed up memory speed to 21 Gbps.
The MSI Insider video follows.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Drops Below the $1000-mark

NVIDIA's high-end GeForce RTX 4080 has, for the very first time, dropped below the $1,000-mark in pricing. A Newegg retailer-level promotion sees the MSI RTX 4080 Ventus 3X OC graphics card listed at $1,099, with a coupon shaving off a further $100. This is a 16.5% discount over the $1,199 NVIDIA baseline MSRP for the RTX 4080. The MSI Ventus 3X OC was originally launched at a $60 premium over the MSRP.

The GeForce RTX 4080 is seeing a much needed downward trend in street pricing, with the graphics card market as a whole experiencing a slump. The RTX 4080 in particular could be experiencing pressure from the Radeon RX 7900 XTX for NVIDIA and retailers to consider price-cuts, with the lowest street-price for the AMD flagship recorded at $881. It's probably hoped that a $999 price could attract some buyers away from the RX 7900 XTX. The GeForce RTX 4080 is an enthusiast-class graphics card designed for maxed-out gaming at 4K Ultra HD, with ray tracing enabled, and loaded with features such as DLSS 3 and dual-stream encoders and decoders.
