Swiftech Announces it's Back in the Consumer Liquid Cooling Scene and is Hiring

Swiftech made its first announcement in over 5 years. The DIY liquid cooling hardware brand realized that with Moore's Law buckling, and CPUs and GPUs getting hotter, the best days of the PC cooling industry are only ahead of us. In a Facebook post announcing their return, Swiftech said that it kept busy all these years on some industrial OEM projects, and stayed away from the consumer product business. The company stated that by the end of 2023, it hopes to launch a completely new lineup of DIY liquid cooling products (Swiftech historically covered the full stack of liquid cooling products, including water blocks, radiators, fittings, tubing, coolants, etc. The company also announced that it will diversify into "adjacent product lines" (which could mean fans, and possibly even AIO coolers).

Swiftech is looking for professionals across numerous engineering, business management, marketing, content creation, and community management positions. Reach out to them if you'd like to work for them!

Swiftech Introduces New Boreas Liquid Cooling Kits

Swiftech is looking to make it easier for users to build their own custom-loop water cooling solutions via the introduction of its Boreas kits. The Boreas kits take a gander at using predetermined hardware parts sold in a kit, which allow users to build their own custom loops without having to worry about part compatibility or any manual fabrication of their own. It also promises a straight upgrade part within Swiftech's ecosystem, with many of the parts being separately available.

As with everything, the Boreas line of products includes addressable RGB options, controlled by Swiftech's IRIS (you think game launchers are bad? Just look at how many RGB controller solutions are on the market these days). The kit comes with everything you might need for a custom cooling loop, and is available from Swiftech starting at $259.95.

Swiftech Announces New Maelstrom D5 Reservoir Lineup

Swiftech today announced a new addition to their Reservoir Lineup. The Maelstrom D5 will be available in four different models with differing sizes (and thus capacity). The four new models carry the X50, X100, X200, and X300 product names, where the numerals indicate the height of the reservoir in mm. As the name implies, a D5 pump is being used on the base of the reservoir, and features speed control via pulse width modulation.

These reservoirs feature Swiftech's IRIS technology, which allows for some RGB goodness to ensue via the built-in ALED lighting system. On the longevity side of the argument, Swiftech is quoting a MTBF of 50,000 hours. If you were expecting price to scale nicely with the reservoir size, you're better of rethinking your stance: the X50 reservoir comes in at $145.95, while the X300 will set you back only $29 more at $174.95. However, not all use cases will be able to use the 300 mm behemoth, so Swiftech is covering all its basis - though charging a mean sum for it.

Thermaltake Draws Flack for Ripping Off Other Brands' Products

Thermaltake, a brand that has been associated with DIY PC for decades, is accused of blatantly copying designs of other [smaller albeit popular] brands' products, with some of the new products it unveiled at Computex 2015. It begins with the Suppressor F51, a case that was launched just a month before Computex, and was widely reviewed by the media. Our readers almost instantly noticed (and we agree) that the Suppressor F51 bears an uncanny resemblance to the Define R5, a pioneering case by Fractal Design. We could excuse similarities to an extant, but it appears that Thermaltake copied even intricate design details.

Legit Reviews compiled a list of other products Thermaltake copied in a similar way. These include its Riing series fans, which resemble Corsair Air Series 120 mm; the Commander FT fan-controller copies some UI design elements from the NZXT Sentry 3; and the most blatant rip-off being the W2 CPU water block, which looks identical to the Swiftech Apogee XL. Perhaps the biggest victim of this episode is CaseLabs. A very small player in the PC case industry, CaseLabs is critically acclaimed, and loved by PC enthusiasts to come up with some of the most original high-end case designs. The company's Merlin SM8 and TH10 cases are copied by Thermaltake into two of its prototype cases exhibited at Computex. These examples alone are class-action bait that, if pursued, could lead to a trade-ban for Thermaltake in markets such as the US and EU.

Swiftech H220X Liquid CPU Cooler Detailed

At CES, DIY liquid cooling expert Swiftech showed off its next-generation CPU cooling kit, the H220X. Although exhibited as fully assembled, the keyword here is "kit." The H220X is a kit containing all the parts that you put together yourself (the block, tubing, and the radiator); and not a pre-fitted cooler like the Asetek fare. A key characteristic of the H220X is its radiator, which fuses in a reservoir and pump, so that's two less components you need to plumb (and four less chances of a leak). What's more, the reservoir comes with a lit window for you to check coolant flow and levels, and a port for you to top up, or replace the coolant. Swiftech is applying this design for radiator+pump+reservoir units in three sizes - dual 120 mm (240 mm x 120 mm), single 140 mm (140 mm x 140 mm), and dual 140 mm (140 mm x 280 mm).
