Optimus Keyboard Gets New Name at CeBIT

Here are some good and some bad news about the ultimate Optimus keyboard project, unveiled directly from Artemy Lebedev and Dimitry Tosy right after the CeBIT in Hannover started. I'll begin with the bad news. First the expected $1,200 price is now $1,490(cough). Second, the complete Optimus keyboard isn't being shown at CeBIT, just a few screenshots. Now the good news. The keyboard is now called Optimus Maximus and there will be OLED keys after all with an expected life span of only 5 years. Each 32 x 32 resolution OLED will remain stationary. Pre-orders of the unseen keyboard start in April with delivery in November/December 2007.

Are you kidding me!!!! Anyone who buys one of those needs to take a long look at themselves... That is way over the top man.. Go and buy a G15 or something and spend the rest on some toys for the homeless kids...

Thats rediculous!!!!!! :o

I agree. Speaking of toys, this looks like a kid's toy. Not something I would ever want....

Sorry I'm not even willing to spend $100 on a keyboard, but $1500? You're out of your fucking mind.

I think $100-$250 would be an ok price range for this keyboard, but >$500 is pushing it... and >$1000 indicates the CEO needs to be fired for pure incompetance.

Optimus Maximus Rex? Nequaquam! Optimus Maximus Columnarius. :shadedshu

P.S. For $15, I'd like to see a chinese imitation of the Optimus... using color keys like the one shown in the picture... only non-programmable keys. They could make it look 100%.

Wow.

It was cool years ago when it was all color and was supposed to cost a hundred dollars.

Now it's more expensive, shorter lived, and still vaporware (except for the little 3 button thing).

Honestly, I'm not looking forward to this at all, it's all hype and I can't imagine it will be received well.

That is the most beautiful keyboard I've ever seen. Oh how I wish I could afford that. Screw spending 1200 on sli gtx's that will lose there crown in mere months. This keyboard will last for years. I doubt anyone will ever come out with anything better.

OPTIMUS MAXIMUS. Sounds like a new transformer to me. That price is ridiculous though. You can buy a whole computer or laptop for that!

Cost of one single key is 10$ so only the 103 keys are already 1030$. 10 key OLED version for 500$ coming in 2008 and extra keys for 10$. In few years this will be maybe a lot cheaper :)

Everything about the keyb:

ps. not buying, but it sure looks nice (not real pictures, rendered ones still).
