Seagate Announces Game Drive External SSD Officially Licensed by PlayStation for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4

To deliver additional storage capacity options to PS5 and PS4 console users, Seagate Technology Holdings plc today announced its officially licensed PlayStation Game Drive External SSD. The new external SSD will further expand Seagate's popular line of storage for gamers. The new Game Drive External SSD is officially licensed by PlayStation for PS5 and PS4 console gamers needing additional fast and large capacity storage and comes with 1 TB and 2 TB capacity options.

For PS4 console players looking to build a massive library of readily accessible games, the drive eliminates the need to redownload files and spend time freeing up space. For PS5 console players, it's designed for gamers who are looking for additional storage for recording gameplay sessions or want to keep their collection of PS4 titles. To ensure seamless game transfers, the drive features a high-speed USB 3.2 Type-C interface. It also comes with USB-C to USB-A and USB-C to USB-C cables for easy plug-and-play use.
The sleek and stylish Game Drive External SSD complements the iconic PS5 console design and is accented by a blue LED light strip that enhances any gaming setup. The compact and lightweight SSD is also portable and requires no external power supply. With simple installation, gamers can easily bring an entire library on-the-go and play from anywhere. The new drive is backed with a three-year limited warranty and includes a two-week free trial of PlayStation Plus Premium | Deluxe, which gives access to hundreds of games in the Game Catalogue and other exclusive benefits.

Shipping globally, the officially licensed Game Drive External SSD is now available for $129.99 (1 TB) and $219.99 (2 TB).

this would have been an awesome product 8 years ago for the ps4. (at the same price) … but things have moved on...

is this a usb 3.2 drive?… no, SATA drives are about 500MB a second. NVME’s (certified for ps5) are ten times faster… (and that NVME is cheaper than the USB ssd)
so why the “Solution looking for a problem” product.
and if you have a ps4, upgrade to a ps5… it is in no way better than a PS5. so, get the ps5 disc version… (with the ps4 that i had, the only disc i had was the original destiny disc, and even then i bought the digital version. 8 years ago SSD’s were REALLY expensive for the size. and it not really reduce the loading times to not noticeable. look for the eurogamer review of using an ssd in a ps4 (8 years ago)
(i just used a larger 3.5 inch HDD back in the day for the ps4…)

External drives are dumb for PS5 since you can only store PS5 games there (and not play them).
