Manhunt 2 banned in the UK

Rockstar Games' upcoming title Manhunt 2 has become the first game in over ten years to be banned in the UK. According to the British Board of Film Censors (BBFC), who decide the ratings for games, "unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying" in the game could cause harm to those playing it. David Cooke, director of the BBFC, said:
Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game.
The last game to be banned by the BBFC was Carmageddon, released in 1997 - this ban was later overturned in an appeal, so there may yet be hope for Manhunt fans, although the original game was also the subject of much criticism which is unlikely to help its cause.

I'd rather people murder in a game than in real life. JackThompsonitis has reached the UK. :(

The first one was sick with what you could do with a baseball bat. Just think about it with the Wii remote LOL

Banning games in just one country only makes piracy worse, because people will just download it rarther than buy it (like me :D)

It definitely did get released, but some shops like Dixons stopped selling it (they also refused to sell the 'Bully' game - I can't remember what title that was released with in the end).

It was released under the name, "Canis Canem Edit" - Dog eat Dog. Latin supposedly to make it more acceptable - yeah I can't see that logic either.
{Canis (Nominative singular-dog) Canem (Accusative singular-dog) Edit (Conjunction-and)} So they actually got the Latin perfectly correct. Manhunt was not banned but it was almost universally unavailable for retail on the highstreet. However it was still successful through online purchases. Good game, but I thought it got a bit repetitive.

I just came back from the UK on Saturday, and tv there has zero censorship (like we in the US have the FCC).

We have a lot of censorship. Maybe not when it comes to swearing and sex, but anything that's "unhealthy" (drugs, food etc.) is very strictly controlled, and the worst thing is the censors are old crusty men and women who haven't seen the real world in over 40 years! lol

Also that article doesn't give the real reason.

The real reason is that some teenager who killed someone played the original Manhunt. Therefore Manhunt was the reason...nothing to do with the fact he was mentally unstable or anything...

Not true. But it's not as controlled as in the US.

Funny how most peeps don't know exactly HOW restricted broadcasting is in the US. Although I do agree with it.

They are just saying "we're not going to let people in UK buy it, so we're forcing them to pirate this game". As people pirate it, they will realise just how easy pirating things is, and then encourgage them to pirate even more media. Happened with me, once I found how easy it was, I was hooked :p

It's happening all over again
