nVidia G70 overview

Soon, nVidia will release a new graphics chip, the successor of the NV40/45. It will probably be named G70. VR-Zone has a received a document with some very interesting facts about the chip. If this document comes really directly from nVidia, the G70 will have the following specifications:
  • Three different models: GeForce 7800, 7800 GT and 7800 GTX
  • 0.11 micron process TSMC
  • 430 MHz core
  • 700 MHz memory (1.4 GHz DDR) for 256 MB GDDR3-RAM
  • 24 rendering pipelines
  • 256-bit memory interface, 44.8 GB/s memory bandwidth
  • fillrate of 10.32 Gigapixel per second, 860 million. Vertices/s
  • 400 MHz RAMDAC
  • nVidia CineFX 4.0-Engine, Intellisample 4.0-Technology
  • GeForce 7800 GTX is SLI compatible
  • compatible to DirectX 9.0c, Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0
An interesting fact is, that Nvidia won't name the highend-model "Ultra" anymore. In addition, only the flagship Geforce 7800 GTX will be SLI-compatible, in contrast to the NV40 series. HKEPC has published part of a document, which contains nVidia's PSU recommendation for the Geforce 7800 GTX.
To provide enough power for a single graphics card, you should have at least a PSU with 400 Watts and 26 Ampere on the 12V line. Two 7800 GTX cores need at least 500 Watts and 34 Ampere on the 12V line.

There is also a picture on the internet, which probably shows a G70 graphics card.

At first sight, you recognize the bigger PCB compared to the 6800 Ultra. The main reason
could be a more advanced power supply circuitry and a changed layout of the memory chips. Unfortunately, we can't give more information about this, because the chips are covered by the cooler. Also noticeable is the single-single slot cooler, which could mean lower power consumption in contrast to the NV40. However, this doesn't correspond to nVidia's statement about the recommended power supply for the Geforce 7800 Series.

In exact 17 days, nVidia will present its new G70-GPU to the public, according to Gamespot. Like the introduction of the Geforce 6 last year, the presentation of the G70 will take place in San Francisco.
In addition, prices were mentioned. The 7800 series will cost as much as the Geforce 6800 at its introduction. In fact, the Geforce 7800 GTX will cost between 550 and 600 Dollars. Nvidia recently announced the presentation date of its new graphics chip "G70", nVidia's weapon against ATI's upcoming chip R520.
The G70 will be introduced in San Francisco on June 21, 2005, where nVidia will show a live demonstration of its new product. Later on, the visitors can have a closer look at the new products. Last but not least, the guests can convince theirselves of the performance of the chip on a big Battlefield 2 LAN party.

Will this be a full blown next generation, or a half-assed one like ATI's X series?
Because Id love to pick up a Geforce 7600GT thats better than a 6800 Ultra for cheap :D

Price

i doubt itll be on the same price line of the A6800 ultra 500 600 dollars to sterling thats aroun 300/350 GBP. This is their flagship card look at what the 512mb card costs www.overclockers.co.uk "XFX SLi TwinForce Kit (2 x GeForce 6800 Ultra 512MB DDR3) TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (PVT45FYDF2) (GX-049-XF) Price: £899.95 (£1,057.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)" thats for ur ultimate set up 2 on sli i cant see them making it on same lines as that its gonna be a fortune just like that is blown way out of the market. All i can do now is sit and watch this technology cause i wont buy how do u justify that sort of money on 2 components as good as it is and would love to have it but its to much. : ( and then add that with amd X2 chip wait for the fx version of it there is another 1000 pounds no way how long do u have to appreciate a machine like that until a new 1 comes out then after. Best thing we can all do for ourselves is to get a big bucket of paint and paint a white line up the middle of our pcs and leave em in the middle of the road hehe
