Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme Now in Black

Cooling expert Thermalright announced today the black version of its beloved Ultra 120 eXtreme heatpipe tower. This special edition will be called TRUE Black 120. Aside from its all black nickel plated surface the TRUE Black 120's dimensions are identical to the Ultra-120 eXtreme, measuring 63.44 x 132 x 160.5mm. It also weighs in at 790g and supports Intel's 775 socket, and AMD's AM2/AM2+. Pre-orders of the exotic cooling are reported to be starting any second now, no price was announced though.

Not fair! I just bought mine a month ago, and now they come out with this. Would have matched my rig's color scheme so much better!

I would bet that it would actually cool slightly less than the regular one.

I don't think it would. The regular version is nickle plated just like this one, it just seems like they added something to the nickel to make it black. I don't think it would affect performance in any measurable amount.

yeah i reckon so too... its painted and the surface paint would definately retain more warmth than bare metal alone... though we probably talking about a degree here or there :P

It isn't painted, the color is part of the nickel plating.

Nothing to special, aside from a color change. Id expect the price to be the same as the TRUE. $50 or about there

glad to see that its nickel plated. this means that the paint wont decrease performance.

Black should be the best cooler color, but don't know how much difference it makes :)

"Black is the best absorber of heat -- however, it is also the best at heat radiation."

Zalman has already done it though with 9500 & 9700 versions, if I remember there was no real difference, although previous versions were pure copper. But sexy, I wouldn't mind black version of my Ultima.

Black surfaces both absorb and radiate heat at a higher rate than lighter surfaces. This would mean a black surface would be cooler in these circumstances. I expect most heat is lost through conduction though so the difference is probably immeasurable.

The black plating should reflect led and neon lighting just dandy :toast:

What ever happened to the IFX14? Or was that someone else?
Everyone got all excited about it and then it seemed to have gotten lost in the shuffle.

Since my Nirvana runs neck and neck with the TRUE except under high OC's, I think I will stick with it as it is a smaller and lighter cooler. (Plus I like the blue Led fan in it.)

ifx 14 is still there.. its just too big and bulky and not worth it for a few extra degrees from the 120.. so yeah it never really took off.

Sometimes you want something, not because it's better, but simply because.:pimp:

I do hope though, that as it's supposed to be a special edition, that it makes it to deepest darkest africa.
