Saints Row 2 Confirmed for PC, to be Released 6th January 2009

On the official Saints Row forums, a moderator has confirmed that there will definetly be a PC version of Saints Row 2 and that it will be released on the 6th January next year. They have explained the delay is due to the fact that they wanted to get the quality of the final release right, although it will be a port of the console version they are working on features only available on a PC, such as adjustable quality settings, multiplayer server features, using a keyboard and mouse, as well as being able to map your own keys as you see fit. Volition have admitted that it will be an external company undertaking the port, but they are working closely with the company to ensure "PC users [have] the same quality product and performance level which you've seen on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3". Minimum and recommended system requirements are still yet to be announced but the Volition moderator has said they will be updating the thread as soon as they are allowed.

Everywhere I've seen (and where I work) has been told it's being release on the 7th November, and they've known this for a good few months now. Maybe I'm completely confused but we were told for DEFINATE that there would be a PC version.

I'm completely sick of this, first HAWX, now Saints Row 2.

Here is the original post from the Volition Mod:
I have some news on the PC version for everyone. First and foremost, the release date for Saints Row 2 on the PC is set for January 6th, 2009 (Ship date of Jan. 5th). This date has gone out to all major retailers, and they should all be updating their websites soon to reflect this.

The one question I’m sure you want to ask is, “Why was the PC version delayed?”.

The PC version was delayed because we wanted to make the highest quality game across all platforms, but it just needed more time. The game is a port of the console version from an external company, but that doesn’t mean the code can just be copied over, and ship it out. The PC version is still being produced and tested at Volition with support from the design and programming teams as needed. This is in no way a hands-off external port of the game.

One other time factor is coordinating the new control scheme from controller to mouse/keyboard. While the 360 controller will be fully supported for PC play, you will also be able to map your keyboard / mouse controls as you see fit.

There will also be a small interface change for Multiplayer. The PC version requires a little more information when connecting through a server browser. You'll now see each player's Ping, the number of players in a specific match, match names, and the ability to sort by modes (360/PS3 has this as well, but they have to create a party first).

A final addition for the PC version is adjustable video settings for aspects such as anti-aliasing, resolution, and more.

Our goal is to give PC users the same quality product and performance level which you’ve seen on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, along with all of the review feedback. You will not have any features missing from the game if you purchase the PC version as opposed to a console version, the entire game is packed in.

Once more information is known such as the PC minimum and recommended specifications, it will be posted in this thread as well.
This was posted a couple of days ago, according to them retailers should be changing their release dateas appropraite. Gamestop has updates to a ship date of 5th jan 09.

Sounds awful. I think SR2 will not be as good as we hoped. :-(

PC "Features":

Ability to use kb and mouse. WOW
Ability to re-map kb. WOW
A quality assurance team in place to ensure the game is "approximately as good as, not much worse than" the console versions. WOW
