The AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ was a desktop processor with 2 cores, launched in August 2005, at an MSRP of $354. It is part of the Athlon 64 X2 lineup, using the Manchester architecture with Socket 939. Athlon 64 X2 3800+ has 512 KB of L2 cache per core and operates at 2000 MHz. AMD is building the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ on a 90 nm production process using 154 million transistors. The multiplier is locked on Athlon 64 X2 3800+, which limits its overclocking capabilities. With a TDP of 89 W, the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ consumes a good deal of power, so decent cooling is needed. AMD's processor supports DDR1 memory with a dual-channel interface. The highest officially supported memory speed is 400 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. Although the processor doesn't come with integrated graphics, certain motherboards with compatible chipsets can provide this capability. Inside the box you will not only find the processor, but also a Yes cooler. The SSE4 instruction set is not supported, which can cause problems with modern games, as they require that capability.
