Computer died need advice

My friends computer just died we don't know why we thought it was the PSU but we put that in my computer and it works fine put it back in his it does nothing it doesnt even start to power on

Sorry i don't know anything more specific

If anyone has any ideas what it might be please let us know

when we plug in the psu the cpu fan spins for like half a sec

specs
AMD Athlon dual core 4400+
i think 500W psu

thats about all i know sorry like i said its my friends computer

Is there any beeps? Check to make sure all plugs ins are secure. Is this a prebuilt, or a custom?

i thought of that but im kinda hoping thats not it im visiting for a couple days and we were gonna game so if anything actually died that really sucks

its a custom system aside from the cpu fan spinning for a sec it doesnt do anything

Still doesnt mean you cant try and clear CMOS. :)

Motherboard could have died. It would be the likely cause if you say you tried his PSU in yours and it works fine. CPU's are the rarest thing to just go in a system all at once like that.

Try a different outlet in the house.

I have a "beater" system that I test things on, its doing the same thing as yours. Mine was a bad cpu (an old Duron). Changed it out with another cpu and it fired right up. You will usualy see BOSD's with a cpu going though.

we think it might be the mobo cus his cpu has been perfect and his mobo has taken some abuse (he dropped his psu on it a while back) were gonna mess with it see what happins

well we dont know what to do with it i think we are just gonna take it to a friend tomorrow who runs a computer store he should be able to find out whats wrong thanks for the help everyone

its more likley to be motherboard faliure more than anything.

we took the computer to my friend mike who runs the computer store (L33t Computer Solutions) today he looked at my friends computer turns out my friend just put too much thermal compound on his cpu some had got under it and was causing problems (mike made fun of him for that but he kinda deserved it) so thanks for everything you guys all your advice was much apreciated
