Decided to go SLI the other day. EVGA 750i SLI FTW and Leadtek GTX260 Extreme+ (216 Core)
Old card was also Leadtek, 192SP. Quick look at the BIOSes and RivaTuner hardware monitor:
216SP uses 1.05v @ 2D, 1.06v @ 3D and Extra
192SP uses 1,06v @ 2D, 1.12v @ 3D and Extra (overvolts to 1.14v on P35 mobo, only 1.13v on 750i - a 1.18v bios would show 1.19v AND NOT GIVE ANY MORE MHz)
After testing both card's max stable OC, I decided to go 729/1458/1215 @ SLI and lowered 192SP card to 1.06v - handles it well with less heat/power consumption.
216SP BIOS has volt options 1.05, 1.06, 1.12, 1.15
192SP BIOS has volt options 1.06, 1.11, 1.12, 1.15 (card has sticker 62.xxx.03 BIOS, but uses a 62.xxxx.05 one....)
* CURIOUS IF THE ONLY CHANGE 192SP vs 216SP IS THE BIOS...tempted to flash 216SP bios to 192SP card...., by same freqs, 216SP is 4-8% faster...someone who did this and didn't kills his card ??
216SP card has to be the main/top card in SLI or PhysX won't run OK (Vantage crashes on PhysX test, and I still have physx probs only on the Performance run..High and custom Extreme/1680x1050 run OK)
Had to move both my HDDs from lower bay (Antec 900) to upper coz the heat at bottom card/PSU was too high - there is only 1cm space between PSU and card !!! But, 120mm clear intake fixed this (but cpu temp got higher coz of two blocking hdds, ideal maybe have one hdd in each bay?
)
Temps right NOW (2D clocks, all fans at low)
GPU0 40C, 45%
GPU1 41C, 45%
Modified the auto fan in nibitor, the best thing I've ever done...no more fan adjusting with RivaTuner. Starts at 45C/45%, at 71C it reaches 100%, but gaming it's 60C and 75% - both cards equally warm.
note: 216SP card's fan spins little slower. not a problem or anything, it just spins less rpms at same percentage.
216SP card could do 1269MHz on mem w/o crashing, 1296MHz was too much. 192SP could do 1215MHz stable, but 1242MHz benchable.
BIOS flashing could be done in SLI also, -a parameter displays a list of your devices/cards
nvflash -a
nvflash --index=1 216-106v.rom
nvflash --index=2 192-106v.rom
both cards are flashed to the 216SP freq, 602/1296/1107
When I OC the top card, both get OC'd. Can't OC the bottom card separately in RivaTuner (not tested other apps)
So, for SLI users, test oc'ing with the least volts.
Almost forgot: benchiiiiiies!
3DMark Vantage, High Preset, SLI@729/1458/1215@1.06v, 3.9GHz C2D
Total: H14751
GPU: 13423
CPU: 33563
(the PhysX work comes from the bottom card. GPU0 goes 2D clocks at this stage in Vantage)
The 216SP card alone (756/1512/1269@1.13v) pulled a OC'd GTX280 score almost !!
Total: P13788 (14K for 280)
GPU: 11453 (12K for 280)
CPU: 35494
the best 192SP could do was 10600 GPU points at 756/1512/1242
