Hi guys,

I've used AtiTool on my last 3 PCs with great success and I LOVE this program. However, my latest rig I just finished building 10 days ago has had a major issue for the past 5 days and until tonight, I was unable to pin down the cause. Let me first say that this problem has almost put me in an insane asylum :banghead:

So 5 days ago, after getting my mobo/cpu/ram OCs down pat, I decided it was time to start on the GPUs (9800GTX SCs). I installed RivaT first and spent a few hours playing with it before downloading AtiTool. Next thing I know........my monitor (Samsung T240) just starts turning off and turning back on randomly and very frequently. It didn't happen right after installing AtiTool, so I didn't initially put two and two together. I initially thought my RAM OC was the cause. So to make a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng story short, after 3 days of round the clock working on fixes to no avail, I was 3 minutes from a total HDD wipe and decided to uninstall basically every program that was not totally necessary including 180.48 drivers, booted in safe and cleaned the hell out of it, and rebooted and installed the new beta NVIDIA drivers and vuwalaaa! Problem solved!!!

So I was under the assumption it had been faulty drivers even though I had cleaned those 180.48 and reinstalled them 5x during those 3 days - so I just figured the 180.84 was the savior.......until tonight.

Two hours ago, I got back to the step in my process that called for AtiTool and within 30 seconds of launching the tool and before I even got a chance to run the test........momnitor just shuts down :nutkick: again - I panic. I realize "its AtiTool!".

It took me 15 minutes to get it uninstalled because the screen was going black on me soooo much, but I finally did and problem is gone again. Funny thing is, the first go around, I installed the latest stable version and this time was the beta v4 release. Both times caused my monitor to go ballistic searching for a signal.

So I uninstalled and used a reg cleaner that I trust to wipe out any traces I could find, but then I used a regedit software and found 52 remaing traces of AtiTool in my registry despite havin cleaned out about 25 with that reg cleaner. I'm not the most comfortable person with registry, but if at all possible, I would like to remove any and all traces of AtiTool from my PC. If anyone has any feedback, comments, or advice, please lemme know. And thanks!

ack!

now its still happening. not as frequently as it was before i uninstalled it, but the screen is going black. does anyone know how i can stop this?

and after reading some of the posts below, i feel it necessary to say that i have booted in safe mode with networking and spent over an hour and it didn't happen. i also have run memtest 4x, OCCT 2hr blend 3x, and its passed 10 hours of Prime95. The hardware is healthy.

i even restored and there is still 42 remaining pieces of atitool embedded in my registry. its the only thing that could be causing this disease. but i am afraid to delete those keys. that may be safe and may be exactly what i need to do to reverse the problem, but i just don't know and was hoping to get some insight from the experts on these forums.

also, i read about the sleep mode bug this morning and switched my settings back to sleep mode and bam, BSOD coming out of safe mode citing display driver failed. please help

Ok, its to a point where I'm just at the end of my rope. I am trying to delete the AtiTool keys that won't come out with uninstaller.

If I don't, I'm going to have to wipe the HDDs and start over anyway, and if I mess up.....then I still wipe and start over I guess. But I'd like to fix this and avoid that.

So I've been deleting the keys, but now I'm to this one and I cannot delete or rename or anything to it:

"C:\\Windows\\system32\\DRIVERS\\ATITool64.sys"=dword:00000005

Anyone with any knowledge about this stuff please help. A point in the right direction or anything.

Thanks in advance = )

Great! Thank you so much. I still cannot delete a couple of the keys however. I took a screenshot (link)

Thats not the only one. There are a few others. I read somewhere else just a minute ago on these forums where someone had this issue and was told to hit Alt+E and P to edit permissions, but that didn't seem to do anything for me.

Ok, finished cleaning everything that could be cleaned. The ones that won't come out are all listed in the search portion at the bottom of the screen. Troubling is that these are the ones listed .sys and such. There must be a way to get them out. (link)

why would you install atitool with an nvidia card in the first place? Though if your running vista 64 atitool was not designed for it, you should of got the driver signature warning not to install in the first place. Though its probably easier just to reinstall then go through the hassle. Though you should be able to uninstall the driver through the device manager, then i'd get a good search program and search all files ending with .inf that containd atitool64.sys and delete em before rebooting.

Actually, ATITool is a highly recommended utility for aiding the OC'ing of NVIDIA GPUs since nTune is possibly the very worst piece of software ever made in the history of software. Most people download RivaTuner and use it to do the actual OC'ing while having ATITool run its artifact test. That is a tried and true method for OC'ing NVIDIA cards.

However, this is the first time I did it on Vista 64, which was definately my mistake and I should probably change the title of this thread now realizing that. More of the user error "bug" I guess. :D

But still.............I want it gone without having to wipe the system.

I think I'm all healthy again. Just spent a few hours in WoW and then cranked up Crysis and surfed the web for a little while and no problems to speak of.

I love it when problems can be fixed xD

Thanks again
