Ok Mr. Vista, tell me one good reason not to be XP fanboi?

If its not that bad why do people hate it? MAC has all the frills and fancies, even Ubuntu has those features but those OSs are fast. Why not make this thing fast?

And thats the main reason I don't like to work with Apples. Linux and windows are both easy to "tweak". Apple thinks they are perfect and therefor should not be tweaked.

Just slim down/optimize the OS and you don't need any campaign's, people will notice and spread the word...

I think at this point they are caring more about their market share than the over all profit. They are slowly loosing that. If they keep 90(whatever)% they will always be making money. Remember "Pirate 2k, Pirate XP, just don't use the other guys product!"

It’s about time they said something about Apples stupid adds. Not that I care about MS but the ads are annoying!

originally - I found them to be quite comical . . . but over the last few months they have been grwogin quite tiresome, even to the point where they're no longer really creative and instead have been coming across as "PCs SUCK!"

as to the Vista thing - I'm still holdin out until I either pick up a game with DX10 capabilities that I feel is worth the hassel of an OS upgrade

or

MS releases an "audio kernel service pack" and give me the same audio hardware capabilities I have with XP. At this point - that is the only thing, IMO, where XP still has the advantage.

Otherwise from my interactions with Vista - I can't say it's a bad OS at all now that SP1 is out. It reminds me very much of XP during it's infancy.

First impressions are the most important. Even with this campaign there are tons of people that will still refuse to use Vista based on their first experience. One of my friends now refuses to use any Linux based OS because of a problem that his ex-girlfriends dad had.

Not that Microsoft is running short on resources, but maybe they should use the money to start hyping up Windows 7.

Depends on what you are tweaking. There are a ton of tweaks in both Windows and Linux that see you using the command line, or delving into apps that are hidden from plain site, only to be called from the command line or run box. OSX is no different.

Good to see M$ attacking back. Tired of hearing how "Great" Macintosh is because Vista isn't all that bad, when it first came out it sucked but w/ the service pack it isn't bad at all.

Each time I see a Mac vs. PC commercial I wonder what they are advertising. It's not safer than Vista, you can't use your own hardware like you can with Vista, it's just as user friendly, both have similar programs (iMovie is like a pretty version of Windows Movie Maker -neither of which are very good), both are bulky operating systems, and with Vista you can play video games. There isn't that many video games for Mac.

I guess it's just that Macs look prettier. Although my Antec Twelve Hundred case, and my MSI GX610 notebook look pretty damn cool.

So there goes 300 Million. How did that work out for you Microsoft ? Did you even make 300 Million in sales since July ?

Dont more people realize now that Vista simply has nothing special to offer and has more negative aspects then positive in terms of an ' upgrade ' ?

Vista bashing is old. Vista is better than XP now so go hide in a corner until 7 comes out and complain about that.

There had to be Vista before we can get Windows 7, just like Windows 2000 had to come about before we get the beefed up version that is XP.

Yeah more ads should fix more stuff in Vista for sure lol... The problem is not with people not knowing about Vista it's to do with it's rep.

Maybe 100Mill for ads and a extra 200Mill for fixing even more stuff would work better. As my games still run slower in Vista than they do XP.

If your games run slower in Vista, it's because you are on old drivers, haven't updated to SP1, are playing at a res where the cpu becomes the primary bottleneck, or all of the above.

Vista games exactly the same as XP on my rigs.

I wonder how successful this ad campaign has been. Their mojave commercials are not nearly as precise and eye-catching as mac ads, and windows is a constant, there really isn't any other choice for most. As such, they really delayed this too long I think for it to have a relevant impact.

The Vista brand is dead IMO, it will return repackaged as Windows 7 with various performance tweaks that will finally be a worthy replacement for XP64.

Windows 7 uses a different kernel.. And XP64 sucks compared to Vista. I used both and Vista is by far way better.

Yes its Server 2008 kernel underneath but the same features will be carried from Vista, I've always found XP64 to perform better than Vista 64, then again 'better' depends on your definition. :)

i used 7 (beta), and as an end user its the same as vista. it has a new UAC and far better firewall but feels basically the same.

Vista doesnt have any performance or compatibility problems, and hasnt for a long time. its far superior to XP, and only diehards are still staying on the old OS. Windows 7 will come out, and we'll see a new wave of people saying vista is better, XP is better, windows NT is better....

this cycle never ends.

Made me chuckle lol :toast:, but my parents laptop has vista premium and i like it, but if/when i switch to vista it'll be x64 and just the basic one its all i need.
Vista had a rocky launch and people are still judging it by that....bit sad really.

I have the newest possible drivers. And will not be old drivers as they coursed problems so been on newest as soon as they come.

Same setting in both OS's XP i have noticed loads better more in COH than other games. GTA 4 is playable in XP but less in Vista.
