In your link others than EVGA's are hard to tell, but EVGA ones are the new ones, have the new PCB, etc... If you look at them closely you'll see they are shorter, hence new.

Prices are ok too IMO, $159 for a slightly overclocked 1GB card seems about right to me. $10 cheaper than the average HD4850 1 GB, while at the same time is faster.

evga's 9800GTX+ and GTS250's are both based on the new short PCB, hence, same, so are BFG's and a few other manufacturers

Okay I don't think I'm going to buy another Nvidia card after all this renaming, it's just downright ridiculous at this point :E

Hell, they've renamed some cards 2-3 times already (and as some speculated it wouldn't be too surprising to see the 8800GT re-emerge as the 330GT or something)

Then it's EVGA's 9800 GTX+ cards which are the same as GTS250 and not the other way around. The improvements made for the GTS250 including songle 6-pin power are available for the cards sold as 9800 GTX+ too. If that's the case the power consumption should be way lower than other 9800GTX+'s. I don't know what's wrong with that TBH, and prices are the same or better for GTS250, again I see no problem there.

In fact prices are much better for GTS250 cards, except that the old 9800GTX+ cards, just because they are "old" (have been for long in stock) have great MIR deals, whhat puts them a little bit lower than GTS250's without MIR.

Am I the only one thinking that a rebranded 9800GX2 might be the only thing out of this mess making sense (Assuming they give it good drivers). That card was quite alright. The GT1XX is definitely making my head spin though.

I'll be glad when all this rebranding stuff is over. But no one is going to be harmed by this.

Anyone that is going to upgrade from a 9000 series cards wouldn't be any better off if these were completely new cards. If nVidia had redesigned the cards, the would likely have performed almost identically, so anyone upgraded to them would be getting the same performance.

If someone with a 9500GT upgraded to a GT120, it wouldn't matter if it was a rebrand or a new design, the are still going to get next to no performance increase.

this is what I'm starting to see this as after thinking about it,

Nvidia is coming out to ATI and saying, we got nothing, we can't compete with you on the low end.

and Nvidia cannot compete with ATI with any of their cards under the 9600GSO now, they just can't,

and whoever said that the GTS250 was different than the 9800GTX+ lied, cause they're on newegg now, and the nearly every single one of them is the same as their 9800GTX+ equivalents PCB and all, a few even cost more than their 9800GTX compainions and the prices on the 1GB+ version all suck.

Nvidia better shape up soon or ATI is gonna run all over em just like Nvidia did to ATI a while back.

Maybe there scared if they kill off AMD that AMD will sell to another who has more cash flow and then truly kick there butts ?. I'm sure NV could of done some thing that could kill AMD off by now but that would not be to smart either IMO.

One upside of this is that the 9600gso might become a bit more widely available. by all accounts it's a very efficient folding card (because of the high number of shaders and low power draw) and a good choice for building a farm because of its single slot form factor.

On the other hand nVidia you drive me nuts with your lazy branding... no wonder I went with ATi for my last card...

man.... doesn't it cost money to rebrand everything? i hate when companies do this.... i used to love nvidia.... spending money to rebrand, only to take advantage of the average person. i guess that's life, but it's still pretty lame.

then there is us.... we have to go read more crap on the internet to see which card is which..... basically one huge nvidia commercial for nerds by nerds.

meh...

Processor Cores 96
Graphics Clock (MHz) 550 MHz
Processor Clock (MHz) 1375 MHz
Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 26.4

The NEW GTS130

Processor Cores 48
Graphics Clock (MHz) 500 MHz
Processor Clock (MHz) 1250 MHz

That's it. I'm not buying an nVidia card for 3 years. That way when I upgrade, even if I get hoodwinked with 3 year old tech, it will still be 1 year newer than what I currently have. I'm no slouch for researching, but I can tell you in 1 short sentence how much I need to remember all the intricacies of nVidias product line. I don't. I've got more important things to keep rattling around in my brain. I can't remember most of my family's birthdays. Maybe I'll work on that one instead. At least a birthday can't be rebadged to something different on me.
