Being on the forefront of technology adoption as far as its graphics products go, AMD will have a notebook platform with DirectX 11 compliant integrated GPUs ready by 2011, reveal company slides sourced by Expreview. The iGPU will be part of the company's "Accelerated Processing Unit" (APU) design approach to the PC's central processing. The APU draws parallels with Intel's upcoming processor designs where the CPU package holds both the CPU and northbridge dice in a multichip-module. One of the first AMD APUs, codenamed "Llano" will be part of the company's "Sabine" mobile platform. Typically consisting of the CPU, a DDR3 memory controller, a northbridge with integrated graphics processor, and the PCI-Express root complex, APU eliminates discrete northbridge from board design.

Slated for 2011, the Llano APU comes out at a time when DirectX 11 is expected to be an established API. The iGPU will also pack UVD 3.0, a next generation hardware-accelerated video decoder by AMD. It will be built on the 32 nm manufacturing process by AMD's foundry partner(s). It features up to 4 x86 processing cores, an iGPU, a memory controller supporting DDR3-1600 memory, 128-bit floating-point execution units (present even with current generation Phenom processors), and a BGA design with a low-TDP package. Llano will be accompanied by the SB9xxM series southbridge. This chip would make for most of the board's nucleated machinery apart from the APU. It will integrate the "DAC" (we interpret audio DAC), USB 3.0 hubs with 16 ports, a 6-port SATA controller, and clock-generator.

Those slides are a fancy way of saying: "We aren't going to release anything substantially new until 2011".

It's a little late, actually. ~2.5 years from the commercial introduction of the API.

i doubt anyone will really care about this being late. it is just for a laptop, and gpu will probably be as fast as today's integrated video cards.
the only selling point would be that gpu and cpu are now fused

Looks to me like AMD/Ati are about 1 year behind the Green team.
This doesnt look too promising my way. By the time they release this, it will be a low standard, maybe even too low for purchase. The only thing im interested in, would be the USB 3.0.

Haytch......um, what are you talking about?

first amd is green(check their site)

second, nvidia still dosnt got a dx10.1 card, not to mention 11, for all you know nvidia may say "theres no need for 11 our g92/gt200 based cards are more then enought for any game on the market"

nVidia dosnt have a cpu of their own period, so how are they going to fuse them?

for laptops video thats equivlan of todays onboard 790gx (in relation to addin cards of the day) onboard will be PLENTY powerfull for most of the market, most people today have intel GMA, and if you think GMA is good, your F'ING INSAIN.

little note about intel gma, its actualy based on the intel 740i videocard from the 90's they have updated adding newer dx support but the core of the video has alwase been that crappy videocard intel came out with to show off AGP.

really, this dosnt effect me, as i dont plan to buy a notebook, i would expect the dx11 AIB's to be ready quite a bit sooner, most likely amd already has started production on the fusion cpu/gpu combo chips, it takes a very long time to print those pretty little pictures on the silicon wafers, thats why at times cpu's come out MONTHS late, they have production problems or flaws and they cant just print up new cpus in a couple min.

couldnt be said any better, nvidia isnt like, on our side lately, and i hope it turns, i know i got no reason, yes. NO reason at all to buy nvidia as main gfx, im plenty happy with lower prices, with more features.

Yes i use DX10.1.
Yes i use HDMI sound(nvidia supports it if youre soundcard does it, but then its just crappy sound quality anyways)

No i dont use cuda( whats it for anyways ? )
No i dont use physx ( really, play a game with physx, take a walk, 5 min later, play without, notice the diffrence hard. nah ? guessed so)

CPU/GPU/IMC is next step, then with the northbridge aswell ? o.0 nah, that'd be gay, changeable chipsets ? o.0

Northbridges for those who need performance, and those southbridges aint too stupid either, but they prolly fuse the SB and NB.

Graphics equivalent to HD3300 in a small notebook would be cool. That little HD3300 has a bit of punch for being only onboard.
